It's profoundly weird, in sometimes wonderful and sometimes terrifying ways. To be here, now, wondering what it means. We gaze questioningly at the stars but they keep their silence. It has to mean something to someone, somewhere along the line. We must be more than elementary particles that collided and recombined until one day they could say, and feel, "I love you." And you're right, whatever the point is, it can't be to compete for prizes: to clutch our medal and say look at me, I won, I'm the winner, too bad for those losers over there. That seems so small, so unworthy of the vast and beautiful mystery we find ourselves contemplating. I grew up working class in a culture desert and was never exposed to ballet. Then while home sick one day in my early twenties I was channel flicking and happened upon a production of The Nutcracker that was just starting on an arts channel. For the next couple of hours I sat still and silent in rapt attention, mesmerized by the grace and beauty of what I was seeing, and moved, as you were by the food on your plate, to tears of gratitude that something of such transcendent loveliness had entered my humdrum existence. I feel that way about all the great works of art I've had the privilege to see, hear, and read. They truly enriched my life and in many cases constitute the high points of it. I don't want to use the dreadful word binged, but I just watched all your content in one sitting on a rainy Sunday afternoon in a similar state of enchantment. Your ballerina's musicality seems to translate into your videos, which have a melodious and hypnotic quality. I feel like I've lived lifetimes in the course of one of your videos - in a good way, because of the dance they lead me on through the haunted forest of consciousness. I know from my own creative tribulations that there's always that voice saying what's the point, why bother, who cares. So I just wanted to say that you've touched my life today, and refreshed my jaded view of the world. Keep going, Katie, and I'm sure you'll enrich many more lives.

First of all, I'm very sorry that you lost your friend/mentor. Even if it wasn't a perfect relationship, it obviously was a meaningful one in your life. Second, I wonder if you have thought of other directions you might take with your dancing, though I'm sure you have. I recently watched a video on RUclips titled 'Silver Feet'. Your video made me think it might be helpful. There are a couple of girls in the video that were in a similar place to where you are now, and who went on to have unexpected futures in dance. If you're happy dancing alone, that is wonderful. However, you mentioned the desire for community. I wonder if you might enjoy working with some of the children at your studio. You obviously have the talent to be an effective mentor to other dancers. You could also pursue solo work for independent ballet productions, such as The Nutcracker. Whichever way you go, I wish you happiness! We often don't realize that it's the journey we will remember more than the final destination. You will treasure these days all of your life, even if it does not feel that way now. :)

Aww ♥ the opening. Ah yes slowing down is so needed, in particular in these days with social media and non stop stimulus of bad news. OMG your kitty is so cute. I like going for walks in particular on windy days. Though recently I have been have been having nerve pain in my feet so it has been more challenging. i love you Katie. i see what you're saying. i started late too. and that pirouette is effing lovely.

I started dancing one year ago, dance is one of the only things I began for myself, especially as a man it was hard to come to terms with my love for dance and ballet as not all my peers would accept it or understand it, I am still trying to accept myself to the fullest and reach my full potential, but videos like this are always a refreshing experience connecting with other dancers who have been brave enough to chase a dream that many call impossible. Wishing you all the best! :)
