Asus ROG Ally microSD / SD card issue and workaround
Mine did the same thing literally a month after the 1 year warranty. Both Samsung and Bell Canada wouldn't cover it. I've had to use just the outer screen since then while trying to find solutions with them both. Now my phone plan is up, and Bell Mobility wants to add $1200 to my next bill (or fix the screen myself) because I had the return phone option plan. If there's a Canadian Class Action Lawsuit, I'm in!
@@Matt.Ram23 Sadly it appears the New York class action lawsuit was settled out of court from the best I can tell from the documentation. I have not seen a class action in Canada. I'm in the same boat as you. I ended up using my old Samsung s10 plus. Surprisingly it's performing quite well for me. Hope you're able to have some success. I'll be switching to a newer non foldable soon. Am considering fixing this phone for ~$800 cdn but am fearful of it breaking again.
Shameful companies like like Samsung will go down in history with zero legacy. They think just raking in billions in profit is all that matters.. Just wait. Deeds matter too. You know your shitty phones arnt worth and have the screen problem for sure. Not one owner of these phones has any satisfaction. Bought one for my wife was way over my budget, what a mistake.Atleast have the balls to stand up and repair them or offer the replacement screen cheaper so the customers arnt stuck, wtf has the world become 😢
Exactly same problem here. I took great care of it just like you did. Center started peeling off. Then the black line! after 19 months.. Samgsung customer service did not help. I'm going to file a complaint to consumer protection services. DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE SAMSUNG FOLDED PHONES!
It's unfortunate that Samsung's Fold phone quality is so poor. Best of luck on your complaint!
How do I take part in the class action lawsuit? I have contacted Samsung twice with no luck on repairing my inner screen. It looks like Samsung would own up to the fact that they created and sold a faulty unworkable device.
This article explains that the court granted a motion to compel arbitration. My interpretation of this is that the defendant and the plaintiffs resolved this through an arbitration process that is confidential and therefore not publicly available. Samsung Z Fold 4 is a piece of shit!!!
Super frustrating for sure!
Just a bullshit product from rog don't buy it's not worth 400$
Despite its problems I still love my ROG Ally. I returned my unit for warranty repair, they fixed it in a week, and it's still working. I'm testing for long-term reliability but so far so good. I'll post a video with the results.
Bullshit 8gb system mem 8 gb. Vram and sd card doesn't even work such bullshit for 400$ of garbage
I bought fold 4 and all of a sudden the display has gone. Its a waste of money
@alimaqsood9076 So sorry to hear it happened to you too! I decided to get mine fixed by Samsung. Just got it back. And am paranoid about using it in fear of it breaking again! This fold4 is way too fragile.
I have almost the same issue except mine is the two ribbon cables behind the inner sceeen failed effecting wifi/Bluetooth and shutting off when I close the phone Samsung said exact same thing replace screen .it sitting on coun till I do the job myself I guess
Good luck with the repair!
No it's not worth it Samsung blamed me saying I dropped it I argued with them and again my inside screen just broke I already paid 500 quid last time it happened I'm sick of it!
Yeah, I've been arguing with Samsung a lot as well. What a royal waste of time!
I've had the same problem exactly!
Sorry to hear!
I own one,and the crease is getting worse after 14 months, and all my friends trashed theirs and said they were done buying the fold!
If your crease is getting worse, my advice (take it or leave it) is to replace the screen protector right away. That screen pressure caused by your crease is going to damage the screen. Yeah, I totally agree with your friends, this fold technology is finicky and not mature enough.
Never had a problem with a fold
So u hook up usb hub and just put SSD card in there
That works well. For portability however, the adapter shown is very convenient.
I have this problem. I spoke to Samsung UK, and they are going to repair my phone. My phone is just over 12 months old.
@MysteriousRider84 Samsung Canada also said they'd repair my Fold4. However after I sent it in, they rejected it claiming I cracked the inner screen which I did not. Waste of 2 weeks without a phone. Hope you have better luck!
@@rejjie_DIY I'm going to take pictures of it before I send it back.
I got a same issue here. Samsung is really suck. Never buy any Samsung product. FK it
My phone inner screen shuts down when I watch RUclips
If you want your usb c port to be available you can also buy a micro sd card extension cable... they are very cheap...
I was planning to buy the fold 4 until i saw this..
@@coolguy13696 glad I could shed some light on the unreliability of the fold4. I'm still shopping for a non foldable. Leaning towards google pixel or s24+
Im thinking of going to the google pixel fold 9 because of the camera is way better than galaxy fold 5 and 6. Galaxy fold 6 camera no better than the galaxy fold 2
@@warriorplutotrent3827 I haven't researched the reliability of the pixel fold. Would be interesting to find out.
I have had a fold 2 and fold 4, usable life is 18 months - agree with this review, long term reliability is not there - great when new but no longevity
I bought insurance for mine from likewize. Screen failed. Sent for repair, no parts. They then sent me a new one for $169. So to all of you. Insure the puppy, it is worth the cost.
Mimiimimimimi
I have a z fold 4 around 2 years its inner screen was perfectly fine until the inner screen protector peels from middle and made a black dot, in my opinion the major cause behind this is screen protector, it cause a tight tension on screen in middle which leads in damage. So please its humble request to all fold users try to avoid using screen protector let it be free from tension. And mark my words it will work flawlessly without any damage or dead screen for long period of time, until you not accidently fall it.
Thanks @rampratapsingh8945 for the tip!
Dont buy this phone...i started using this phone after 4 months i bought..i got the purple lines and inner screen damaged after 9 months of use.. 1 year warranty over.. samsung service centre charge $800 plus to repair this
22 months on my 4 and now same issue...ugh! Will just use the outside screen until......oh, $650 to replace inner screen!!
@@ITS_BOBBY47 I know. So painful!!
May get a pixel pro 9 next
Same Happened with mine, had to pay 300$ for samsung care phone replacement 🥲
See this video on how to minimize screen damage on your new phone. ruclips.net/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/видео.html
If u upgrade ssd n have old 512gb ssd ,You can get mini 2230 ssd enclosure type c and use ,spare 512gb ssd as a portable ssd drive,
@gamerupdate5489 That's a good option. Thanks
The work around is getting Steam Deck OLED instead 😂
Please ,anyone who has any foldable phone and the screen protector start have bubbles, just peal it off ASAB , it is the problem that cause to break the inner screen !
100% agree
Will peeling off the screen protector void the warranty?
@@gauravpant1 yes
@rejjie_DIY So there is no point in peeling off the screen protector by self even if the protector is developing bubble crease from mid, as it will void warranty. I guess this must be peeled off by the service centre itself regardless of whether they have a new protector available for Fold4 or not..
@gauravpant1 if it starts to bubble, I would bring it immediately to a Samsung Service Center to get it replaced. From my experience, it takes only one or two days before it starts to permanently damage your screen
Happend me twice on fold 3, fold 4. No more fold phone for me. It was fun it worked but wasted $4k on 2 phones
I hear ya. Sorry to hear about it happening twice to you!!
NEVER EVER BUY SAMSUNG FOLDABLE PHONE ...U WILL REGRET....
Yes, 100% agree!
I agree but I don't regret it much~~ The fold/flip is a great phone but really fragile It's practically impossible to give it the utmost care and handling it needs
Want to join as well, faced the same issues as you did.
It’ll still fail. Problem isn’t heat it’s a capacitor that can’t handle the power being fed to it
@Bhdobbs, odd. With the external adapter, did it fail in the exact same way as without it? Did you try a different SD card? More details would be most helpful, thanks.
@@rejjie_DIYI’ve been using this method for 7 months no issues. I bought an adapter that allows pass through charging. I burnt up my SDcard slot because I thought I turned the Ally off but I didn’t and I put it in the travel case inside my backpack for hours. Surprised the only thing that broke was the SD card slot because it was well over 100c
@@BossMan302 which adapter did you get?
I have had the same problem twice within one year. They gave me a refurbished phone under warranty the first time. When it happened again 4 months later i wanted a different phone that was not a fold. I still owed $700 on my fold 4 and Verizon wanted me to pay off the balance on a defective product to get a s24 ultra, i didn't pay. After hours of talking to different people on the phone I received a credit that may or may not get approved only after I purchased a new s24 ultra without paying the balance on my old phone, it will come in the mail. Verizon has the worst customer service on the planet because they know your basically trapped so good luck if you have a fold that craps out more than once while your still paying it off. Stay away from any fold product unless you don't care about getting a refurbished fold phone every 4 months.
The same thing has happened to my Z fold 4. A story identical to yours down to the last bit. Didn't use the screen much in the 1 year I have had it, didn't drop it, a black line developed in the screen all of a sudden totally identical to yours and the screen stopped working
Sorry to hear about your phone. Too many of us with the same problem! No more fold phones in my future.
Barely used mine, have it as a spare and use for travel. Oem original Screen protector started bubbling and then I get black line and unresponsive to touch. Probably the last samsung Ill ever buy now if this is the regular quality we can expect
@@ZeroHour064 super frustrating. For years I've been happy with the quality of Samsung phones until the fold series. I'm shocked that they're still building these things
Layer, you dropped. I had 3 of them and best ever
Nice. Certainly many will not fail, but the defect rate is way too high for a production device. Good for you.
I have the same problem with my fold 4 i like almost everything about the phone except for that problem
100% agree. So close but so far.
I live in Florida I will like to take legal action if is possible
The class action lawsuit referenced in this video has good details which you could reuse
Got my fold4 as part of the original launch in fall 21. Has worked flawlessly until yesterday, when I found I could no longer open the screen fully. Sometime today I was watching YT full screen but closed the phone to take to another room. When I opened back up, I had a black line down the screen and limited responsiveness. NO CRACK. Now it still displays, but is unresponsive to touch, leaving me with a smaller screen than my old samsung note that was still working when I traded it in - cracked glass and was very close to just folding in half after 6 1/2 years of hard use. So glad to find this and the class action suit. I planned to keep this phone for at least 5 years - it didn't make it 3.
@@jawjagrrl you may want to consider changing your inner screen cover before it gets worse. Check with Samsung
You really really should have removed the screen protector as SOON AS YOU SAW it start to peel. It would have saved the internal screen. I removed mine, as soon as i saw it peel, which was after about 18 months ( i used it as a 2nd phone) and it still like new now. No issues.
@tinku5018 Yes you are correct! I only wish I knew before it happened. Hopefully others will learn from my mistakes. Other issues that cause inner screen damage, like cold temperatures, are summarized in part 2 of the video series here: ruclips.net/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/видео.html
You need to remove the inner screen protector the moment it starts peeling in the middle. This will cause a pinch when folding the screen causing it to fail.
Yes 100% correct. I only found out afterwards :(
Wait for real? The screen protector is the culprit for dead pixels? What if i removed it completely as soon as I buy the phone then?
@@Trancer006 you would remove the risk of the inner screen protector failing due to the screen protector pinching it when it starts to peel, but increase the risk of scratches.
I agree that the inner screen lifting causes undue pressure on the inner screen. I also believe but I don't know for sure, that any undo pressure on that inner screen will cause damage. The inner screen protector helps to minimize this so I think is required to be installed. Also by removing that inner screen protector you will void your warranty. If I get another fold phone, what I'll do is only remove the inner screen protector as soon as it starts to lift and handle the phone very carefully as I bring it to Samsung to replace the inner screen protector for me.
@@rejjie_DIY the inner screen protector has a one time free replacement by Samsung within the first year. Just take it to any UbreakIFix
Got mine and working fine
I researched and collected feedback from others on what to do to minimize chances of damaging inner screen here ruclips.net/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/видео.html
Same thing happened to mine after a year, screen protector started bubbling down middle and upon opening it appears screen protector bubble lifted or damaged screen due to suction from screen protector. Just out of warranty, last time i buy a foldable.
Super frustrating. Yeah no more foldable for me either. See law suit here ruclips.net/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/видео.html
The best option is... send it back to Asus and force them to redesign the motherboard and move the sd slot. If not, lawsuit.
Assus wipes his Assus with the lawsuit 😂😂😂😂
I am not sure what happen to your fold phone, but mine been using 2 years of course with a care after i use it i always clean with small clothes i put inside my fold, and i am ex samsung user, the fold i use is Vivo X Fold gen 1, i never trust any samsung because in my country their services is really bad here, i remember last time my note 10+ due to their software update issue mostly people got bluetooth issue after update their software, even i still got 1 year warranty they ask me to buy new spen , they are not like other big company like sony wf-1000xm4 last time also got issue after update but Sony is kind they let me claim new one, thats i can tell you is real story its up to you to believe it or not, samsung nowsadays is terrible, they only care your money.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I agree with you, except I would say that all of us are generally not aware of what to do when the screen begins to crack or peel. I captured my best advice for Fold owners or would-be Fold owners in the next video in the series found here: ruclips.net/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/видео.html
Same thing just happened to mine; it just broke out of nowhere and for no reason.
Super frustrating! Lots of others in the same situation. So much so there's a class action law suit in New York. I talk about it in the next video in the series found here: ruclips.net/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/видео.html
Same problem.
That's such a hilarious bodge. I can't believe owners aren't kicking up more of a fuss about this.
Yeah, it is ridiculous. Asus does provide warranty support but I was skeptical whether they could actually fix it. I'll post another video soon on how my warranty repair went...
Same thing happened to my Galaxy fold 4 right after passed 1 year. very light use on big screen as unfolded . Haven't dropped and it always had case from samsung. suddenly screen gone bubbly in the inner middle and after 3 days gone black and spreaded and unresponsive. repair cost is 6-700 usd and Samsung customer support doesn't care. this should on recall or free replacement for another phone.
Sounds almost identical to my experience, sadly.
Same experience as mine, in Argentina, where this is extremely expensive. No Samsung support.
@@Eprodil Sorry to hear. Super frustrating!
