On Solway Lass we keep our crew and guests busy. The old hand winch keeps everyone in shape. Whippings and abuse keep them motivated.

    Yeah if you bought it used, no doubt the previous owner(complete idiot!!) Drilled those spots. The rod holders hold water and people don't like that. The cup holders I can see, even though it self drains and the other low points at the edges. I think they didn't like the fact it might pool a little bit of water while out and thought it should be completely dry on the bottom.

    Hi Alex. I reckon someone has drilled all those holes so that water wouldn't pool and make the user wet. Looks like all the low spots were drilled. Previous owner not as adventurous as you and probably only ever got a dribble into the hull. That's my bet.

    Thanks for posting this - that was educational! Glad you were all safe. I take my TI to those waters regularly with four on board so I'll probably pull the trigger on an automatic bilge pump system after seeing that. When I do Marine Rescue patrol in those areas I've seen how the waves can pitch up steeply on the sides of the shipping channel depending which way the winds are blowing. As far as I know, the beach you pulled up on (Luggage point) is pretty close to the sewage plant treatment outflow...so you don't want to hang out there for too long :)

      @@Adventure_Bum Polyethylene is very resistant to chemicals..... Not certain the age of your hull or how it has been stored (UV damage). Would not rule out intentional damage.... I would look into a good grade of epoxy to plug each hole and double check the front hatch seal (always a problem with the Islands). Also recommend checking while under sail for any water in the hull and pumping out while sailing with the hand bilege pump. Also recommend closely inspecting the scupper holes that you put your wheels into for any cracks holes. (ask me how I know....). I have also had cracks directly under the mast step.... not fun.

    • @Adventure_Bum
      @Adventure_Bum 2 месяца назад

      @@seewind thanks for the advice. Hull is from 2014 so 10 years old. Mostly stored under cover or in a shearing shed. I fixed all the leaks with Marine Sikaflex and tested it again with no leaks. Scupper holes and mast well are good. Thinking of installing a bilge pump so I can pump without opening a hatch. Been on 3 sails since and no leaking at all, better than it's ever been. I hope it's not intentional damage! Putting holes in a boat is pretty bloody serious!

    • @seewind
      @seewind 2 месяца назад

      @@Adventure_Bum Glad you are back on the water with a dry TI. Agree... 1st half of the sail was dry....2nd half full of water.... front hatch seal is #1 root cause (waves) followed by all the small holes. Bilge pump (electric with a switch) could help and add some safety margin.
