Reviving This Classy Lenovo ThinkPad R500 Back To Life With Microsoft Windows Vista In December 2024
Yeah i drive my 1988 Town car all year, When i first bought it 10 years ago, i painted the entire underbody with industrial ship paint, including the frame and wheel wells and the floor pans in my driveway, in the winter it gets the underside hosed out every 2 weeks to keep the salt from rusting brake lines and other unpainted parts as a preventive, ten years later the bottom is still shiny black , no new rust has developed anywhere on the body or frame of the car, and the car is washed as per the owners manual, every week. Maintenance is key to making old cars last. especially as a 40 year old Daily Driver!... mine still appears as new condition from any angle. the interior is also detailed twice a year with leather preservatives and the vinyl top, which is original and still not one crack on it.... the car has not gotten any wear and tear because of proper maintenance. its just the simple fact these cars are hard to replace in 2025!!!
Incredible!! Very inspired by your experience. Thank you so much for sharing.
I used to have a 00s Mercury Grand Marquis, which isnt a town car but it’s pretty damn close!!
Is your avatar the Gimp pepper? Even if not, you are Based and redpilled.
Nice car. I have been thinking of buying a vintage car next time.
Hell yea 😎
There is definitely a lot more you can do to prevent rusting than most people are willing to. Even just spraying off the underside at a self-service car wash does wonders. People don't really tend to do anything at all in the way of rust prevention or repair, and even once it starts they just let it continue to spread. By the way, what happened to your Part 2 video for your movie series? It got taken down before I could make a comment on it.
someone didn't like it lol

I got your video in my algorithm even though I am from Poland. Pretty random
Thanks for stopping by! Poland is based
I love P71 Crown Vics and the Thinkpad P71 haha. I love how the Thinkpad P71 has a modular GPU, was definitely one of the big selling points of it for me.
You had me right up until the very end with implying Kamala was referring to Trump as disabled by calling him weird. If we're interested in measuring presidencies against each other, Trump is quoted directly by his family members by saying his own nephew should just die & people like him should just die. "he should just die" =/= "what a weird man." Saying disabled people should die is weird behavior.
He is weird He is also disabled He is also an asshole None of these are mutually exclusive
Watching this on my e480. I absolutely love it. Everything I need in a laptop. It has an Intel Core i5 8250U, 32GB ddr4 ram, and a 1TB nvme ssd.
I sense you are working through some things... so I'm not telling you what to do here and take this with a grain of salt. You might want to take some time off school and work out what you want to do moving forward. Sometimes you got to work out some issues and put them behind you before you can move forward. Just another idea, but you keep doing you :)
thank you i am working with experts not limited to myself and my needs are being taken care of. everything is under control 🥰
@@iliketowncars Cool... it's important not to isolate yourself too much and professional assistance can be a good option. I'm glad to hear you're keeping things together.
That thing must be heavy lol
certainly not my ideal machine for road warrioring, better than nothing!! mainly bedrotting with this sexy thing
So what is your plan from here? Are you going to try another school?
Yea
@iliketowncars That is cool Aaron. I hope it goes well. Best wishes.
It's not stupid if it works, pretty much sums up all of my old hobby computers - LOL
Never actually owned an R-Series device myself before. I briefly had an R31 many years ago (I actually have a video featuring it on my channel), but that was just a machine I was fixing up for my Computer Science teacher. Honestly, I was never a huge fan of the gritty hard plastic surfaces of them, nor the kind of chunky design theme compared to the T-Series devices. They just feel kind of cheap IMO. But that's just me. If you can get past that, they are good devices that offer all of the practical benefits of the T-Series but with a lower price.
this channel is so random I love it
Thanks Raymond thank you for stopping by
The Px0 and Px1 machines are my favorites of the P-Series. A buddy of mine has a P52, and while its still pretty nice, I'm not a huge fan of a few of the changes they made, like the keyboard, lack of express-card, white status LED and keyboard/power button LEDs, lack of a dock connector, and the strange placement of the Lenovo logo on the display bezel. Whenever I upgrade from my P50, I'll likely skip the P52/P53 entirely and go with a P15 or a T15g. I actually like the looks of those better than the Px2 and Px3 devices, I also just think it'd be fun to try one out, since I've never even handled one before.
thanks for your comment, i agree so much about the little changes with P52 on being annoying. >:( if it was me i'd try to get a P16v or P16, i rly don't like 15.6" it's the worst form factor IMO LOL it's the same physical height as my freaking X60.
@@iliketowncars Personally I like 15.6", its not quite as nice as 15.4" 16:10, but I've always used 15" laptops. My first laptop I ever had was a 15.4" laptop. I'm also probably not as picky about screen real estate as you are since my vision is kinda shit. I'm the typa mf have a 4k screen and run it at 200% scaling.
@@iliketowncars Lemme tell you though, if you're a fan of big tall screens in laptops, you should get a 17" 16:10 laptop. I have a Dell Precision M6500 with the 1200p RGB-LED display (same Samsung one used in the W701), and lemme tell you, that thing is a darn sight to behold.
@@melvinharris7859 someday Brother, someday
@@iliketowncars I think the Precision M6500s are pretty good machines. Its an inexpensive way to get sort of the experience of owning a W701 without actually paying W701 prices. I think mine was like $50. Most of the hardware is the same as the W701, including the LCDs they used. Its also one of the few Dell laptops of that era to actually have a middle scroll for the TrackPoint. The lack of middle scroll on some of the older Dell laptops like my D830 or my D600 kind of makes them unusable to me for any sort of practical tasks. The ALPS touchpads Dell also frequently used in that era are absolute ewaste garbage. My M6500 is the only Dell laptops of the era I've used with a proper Synaptics touchpad in it. I would say its just as good as the Synaptics touchpads in my ThinkPads. All in all, I would recommend the Precision M6500. Not that anybody actually asked. I would say the biggest pitfall of them is they were only offered with Darfon manufactured keyboards. The ALPS and Chicony keyboards of the era used in the Latitudes were pretty good, I would say comparable to ThinkPad keyboards of the era (My D620 actually has an NMB keyboard in it) but the Darfon keyboards are extremely mid IMO. Kind of mushy and they have really bad key wobble.
That is one sweet laptop!
it is the one of the greatest things i own
@@iliketowncars Looks like a power house PC and it's great to have the dock to make it a desktop replacement.
Look at that head of magnificent hair! Enjoy it while it lasts brother. Sometimes I think about just getting a night stocking job at Wally World or something. Just to change it up. I'm starting day labor for a GC at the end of the month for a month or two. Just the right amount of work. I loved this fever dream, what RUclips USED to be!
i think the superstores pay better but it depends on the area. best of luck!!
That's funny you work at a Walmart. I work at a Sam's Club myself. I get to drive a forklift. Its pretty sweet.

All the mods that have been found for thinkpads is such a cool rabbit hole to fall into. Did you do anything special to get your mic mute LED to work? It doesn't seem to work for me (same story with the thinkvantage button)
Damn what did you put into it. How much cocaine did the Lincoln sniff
Wow, that's in great shape and a sweet ride. Kind of reminds me of the 1977 movie The Car :)
Now that's a hot-rod Lincoln
Darn it I already made that joke
Using r5 but look 7d still fire 🔥
7D was and still is a beast, thing could last you an entire career, great choice of camera.
the lack of system ram may be less evident when running SSD but thats because the swapfile is snappier and that leads to premature SSD life expiry.

My daily driver is a 2002 Lincoln Town Car that I bought in 2007. When I bought it, it had 36k miles on it. It didn't use hardly any oil until it got to about 100k miles. I use full synthetic oil, and change it every 5k miles. Now I have to add a quart of oil about every 2k miles, which isn't too bad. I just drove it 815 miles from Maryland to Florida in one day, and it was as smooth as silk on the highway getting 24.1 miles per gallon.
I should get me a camera. I just take photos with my cell-phone.
it rly helps get in the mood.
Looks like you are all set to be on the road for a very long time with that ThinkPad and battery collection. I would love to have a collection of good batteries like that - nice!

Windows Vista gets more hate than it deserves. I actually think its a fine operating system. Its kinda just Windows 7 but less good.
Youre right. As a matter of fact everything after Vista is just Vista with more shit added to it. Under the hood Vista is NT6, 7 is NT6.1, 8 is NT6.whatever, 10 and 11 got renamed NT10 but they are still actually just NT6, ergo, Vista. It’s all Vista, rebranded, remarketed, sold over and over again to clueless normies. Vista never left.
@@iliketowncars To this day you still see fragments of 98/XP design in Windows 11. The whole OS is just heaps of changes piled on top of each other.
