The brief history of Valiant Comics, part one. From its founding by Jim Shooter and Steven Massarsky, to the first fall of the Valiant Empire. A retrospective of the 90's climate of the comic book industry through the lens of a unique company that created a universe to tell fantastic stories in. Innovation, storytelling and a style all their own. Questions, for the comment section. Would you li...
90s Valiant was kickass. Dr Solar is my favorite superhero along with spider man. I though Deathmate is one of the coolest comic series so i was pretty shocked to hear how horribly it was received. Great vid!
😮
Your videos are criminally under watched!
@@RossJaynes thank you. I will keep making them, even if they do not get the views.
My favorite, Valiant Comic character is Magus Robot Fighter ❤!
After I saw what Byrne did with some of my favorite characters after Jim Shooter left, I say Byrne was the one who stayed too long! When Shooter was Editor, he was the boss and didn't accept nonsense from creators who got too big for their britches! By the time I learned about Valiant, Jim Shooter was already gone!😡
I was thinking the exact same thing about Byrne saying Shooter stayed too long. Huh ??? When an employee says stuff like that about their boss, you know they're the problem.Shooter also made sure people made their deadlines, before he towed the line at Marvel, titles were criminally late.
AH, the memories. Those BWS Solar covers are legendary. Things went downhill fast after Shooter left... good times
Magnus robot fighter
I'll check out Part 2 but I feel like a lot of 90s Valiant was ignored here - like the "Birthquake" initiative from Acclaim that saw the books going biweekly, or the "Acclaim Comics Valiant Heroes" era with EiC Fabian Nicieza which produced such great books as Quantum & Woody. It also was notable that Jim Shooter himself returned for Unity 2000 which sadly wasn't even finished.
🔥💟🖤 AWESOME VIDEO 🖤💟🔥
The original Valiant run was the best comic universe debut, every title was written and drawn well and fit seamlessly together. After Unity and Shooters dismissal, the titles quickly went downhill. The recent stuff is hit & miss IMO. Harbinger was great, but I liked XO a little better.
Archer is my favorite character from the 2012 era :D
Nice video!
Good work! You have my click🎉
Subscribing for this series
@@aflo_ awesome! I hope I don't disappoint.
Thank you for this! Love Magnus and Rai and SOlAR! honestly this universe was one of my favorite to dive into!
@@Ace_of_The_Reckoning one of my favorite comic universes. Highly underrated.
X-O Manowar is my favorite Valiant character. Followed by Ninjak and Bloodshot. Nice Part 1.
Of this second phase, was hoping the films would have taken off. I like the Bloodshot film that came out during the pandemic. Thought there was a Ninjack series but don't know how to watch it.
@@rlpittsjr the Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe series can occasionally be found on youtube. Also google it. I found it on a website a few months ago through google. Can't remember where though.
I became a Ed Brubaker fan. During his work on Captain America. I'm looking forward to him having such a strong influence. On the Criminal series coming out soon. BTW That's an awesome channel picture. Next to reading comics. Esoteric literature is one of my favorite hobbies.
If you like Brubaker I recommend 100 bullets by Brian Azzarello, and it's a completed series.
I just watched both videos of the history of Valiant comics. I'm genuinely impressed with the quality you put into this project. This is definitely the best documentary about comics. That I've seen recently. Keep up the good work. It's definitely appreciated.
@@playdisplay1468 thank you. It was a lot of work, well worth the effort.
AGREED. Well done, amigo,I've been waiting for someone to do a new documentary on the formation of-VALIANT-COMICS.Thank you, amigo.
Love these vids! Part 1 was phenomenal. I love Harbinger and Rai. Faith is my all-time fav Valiant character. ❤️🧡 +1 sub :)
I LOVE Harbinger the most. I recently completed my pre unity run of every Valiant title. Rai 3 was the last book. I met Shooter at Terrificon last year, and he signed my Magnus 1. Nicest guy you could ever meet. My single fav Chars are Rai and Faith from Harbinger.
The Robot 🤖 fighter was my favorite Rai and XO were not
...do you have a complete episode on my personal favorite character 'Faith"? Oh pls tell me y'do..!?!😮😢❤
My favorite character's "Faith"😮😊❤
yessss I love her
This version of X-O Man of War is were I started reading comics
In my personal opinion, the newer X-O is just a better read. Everything great about the 90s one, amped to eleven.
I WOULD LIKE U 2 DO MORE VIDEOS ON VALIANT COMICS!!! Video Ideas - 1. A deep dive into Marvels "New Universe" and Its Connections bussiness and creative wise that have connections to Valiant Comics.
New Universe... man I haven't thought about that stuff in ages. Deep cut.
@@AnubisCEF U should look at videos of it because I think some of the Valiant IPS like H.A.R.D.Core have several similar IPS that make up the New Universe, and I believe that those IPS may have been created by the same minds that created H.A.R.D.Core and some of the similar Valiant Comic IPS.
Amazing vid! I'd love to see a discussion of the Gold Key replacements.
I started late with Valiant but I quicky fell in love with the universe and I would really love to see a crossover of Valiant with DC somday. some of My favorite characters are Peter Stanchek (Sting) AKA The Harbinger, XO Manowar, Divinity, Quantum and Woody, Shadowman and even though they are no longer published by Valiant Solar Man of the Atom, Turok and Magnus Robot Fighter.
Awesome video! It’s great to see the complete story presented here. I really wish that all of Valiant’s properties were licensed by the same company. I mean, a Quantum and Woody TV series was in development from the Russo brothers. That would have been hilarious.
@@ComicDrops that would have been sweet.

I just started watching this video because the Valiant universe is my all-time favorite shared universe in comics. Looking forward to watching this later. My all-time favorite character in all of comics is Ninjak or Ninja-K if you prefer. In Valiant comics, my top 57favorite characters (in order of most favorite to least favorite) are Ninjak, X-O Manowar, Toyo Harada, Sunlight on Snow, Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot, and Livewire. if current Valiant comics wants their resurgence efforts to succeed, they must get better writers, push a toy line, and have an animated series that goes with the toy line.
@@kaspercole7 We do need a really good Valiant toy line. I would them all. Sunlight On Snow was such an underappreciated character.
THIS WAS ON POINT AND CAN'T WAIT 4 PT.2
Currently writi g and researching for part 2.
THIS INTERESTS ME VERY MUCH - X-O MAN-of-WAR AND BLOODSHOT R 2 I KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT 2 SAY I LIKE BUT MANY OTHER CHARACTERS AND GROUPS INTEREST ME ALSO - I JUST DON'T KNOW 2 MUCH ABOUT THEM!!!!!
I loved Harbinger-the “Children of the Eighth Day” trade paperback remains a favorite. Great first video, by the way. Hope you continue with the channel.
Thanks, currently writing and researching part 2. Definitely plan on more videos.
More upcoming? I’m trying to get into valiant comics since he the resurgence event is coming up
My personal favorite characters are X-O Manowar, Eternal Warrior and Armstrong. I'm a nut for ancient history, and these titles feed that interest. Part two coming soon.
Awesome video! I appreciate the time you took to explain the story behind Valiant. They are my favorite publisher despite the ups and downs over the years. Shadowman and Rai are my favorites!
Thanks! Valiant has been a personal favorite publisher of mine as well. I'm currently writing part two. I intended this to be one video, but as I wrote part one, I realised there was quite a bit to say.
@@AnubisCEF They certainly have an interesting history and the Acclaim era was nuts. Still wish they would have released that Bloodshot game.
Valiant is my absolute favorite, particularly Shadow Man but I also really like Bloodshot and Ninjak. Punk Mambo and Doctor Mirage are fantastic.
Shadowman is a superb romp through the voodoo mythos. And Punk Mambo is such an underappreciated character.
