I agree it's terrible to get rid of the Rivers (if they get rid of it at Disneyland I'm throwing a fit). But Walt didn't care about Magic Kingdom, his vision was some weird script company city in Epcot.

Disney World opened after Walt’s death. I think it’s more important to preserve these lands and ideas at the original park in Disneyland.

I think I just figured it out. If they start this major demolition around the time of Epic opening, then they can disguise their low attendance. The park will still look somewhat busy because you are destroying a quarter of the park.

The space behind the Rivers of America, just outside the railroad loop is conservation easement land, so they legally can't build there.... They probably would have been able to convince the State of Florida to allow them to exchange easement credits for that section of land, if they only hadn't decided to pick a fight with DeSantis.

So not only do these disrespectful, woke, radicals running Disney want to rip out and destroy another Walt Disney designed Ride and Attraction they want to put up more ugly construction walls in the Disney Park for years and years. Even worse and longer than what they did to Epcot. When they could just do an Expansion on the outer edge of The Magic Kingdom, not touch any of Walt Disney’s masterpieces and not again give us 5+ years of these ugly construction walls.

I don't care to much about the change. Never went to Disney World. Disneyland is where the other rivers of America is and its likely that one will remain.

The thing that people are missing here is that when you make a change, it has to be positive change. I fail to see how slapping a Cars Ride on the corpse of the Rivers of America improves the park in any way. Update Tom Sawyer Island if you want, by all means, but… no. This is a straight up horrible idea on all counts. Forget about it “destroying Walt’s vision”. (Which is admittedly still important) This is destroying the flow of the whole area. It is such an objectively bad decision that it blows my mind

Oh brother. Disney’s vision was for his park to never stop changing. He didn’t want to become a museum. When Disneyland opened, Frontierland was dedicated to the biggest IP of the day: Davy Crockett. This was the Cars/Frozen/Marvel of the day. Westerns were huge and he gave people what they wanted. The Magic Kingdom wasn’t even a priority for Walt before he died. His planned second park was an afterthought for his experimental prototype community of tomorrow. It was only a way of paying for what he really wanted to do then. The Disney company destroyed Walt’s dream by building the Magic Kingdom as a cheap clone to Disneyland and then never carrying out his vision for EPCOT. So really this is all hollow virtue signalling. I agree that if they ripped out the area at Disneyland, it would be a travesty because it adds so much to the character and vibe of that original park. But at the Magic Kingdom, it’s poorly laid out. The park is extremely boring compared to Disneyland and has always felt like a cheap imitation in comparison. Its saving grace is that it is surrounded by the other parks. Disneyworld is for families of all ages. Families today don’t want the museum either. Let MK grow. It needs capacity and although I hate cars, the next generation loves it. It’ll add some dynamic energy to the area and those who want to experience Walt’s original dream will have Disneyland.

I heard that the concept art is a little incorrect and there is still a river just remade differently. Plus with some research you’ll find the rivers of America are in bad shape already (drainage and stuff with the island) so yeah. It’s years away so we’ll see what happens. I think it’ll end up looking fantastic, as long as they don’t get rid of anything else in the park… or is that inevitable? 😂

I never been on tom sawyer island and the rivers of America, but i still appreciate it for its beauty and the calm peaceful vibes of the older times. Now it will ruin the vibes for haunted mansion when you head for the ride

The idea that Walt Disney a man ahead of his time would not adapt to the child of today, that he would just blindly hold onto an old idea just because it was an “original “ idea is idiotic! Walt probably would have updated Disney world several times with major overhauls if he were still here. I guarantee a man like that wouldn’t just hold onto the past.
