Nice to see and hear the legend himself. I vote Rick "Super Hunky" Sieman as the number one dirt bike storyteller. The man could write such great stories. He had such a flair for words. I still think about his funny stories from time to time. He will be greatly missed.
Man. Just last year I went to a vintage race with a 450 Maico, got bumped to intermediate, shared the track with experts, and got roosted near to death and utterly humiliated. A got off the track a whole lap early and wasn't even the first one off.
Thank you for creating this video. I grew up in Van Nuys My neighbors were The DeLaTorre's. I went to school with Tony, Peter and Andrea. My neighbor and classmate Johnny O and I would sometimes ride to Mid Valley CZ, CH industries and Mike's Racing center after school. My school Mulholland Junior High and Birmingham High all located on the same street as Mid Valley CZ, CH industries and Mike's Racing center. Crazy!
I remember being a little kid at Saddleback and Super Hunky told my buddy and I that he would buy us lunch if we kept his rims cleaned. It turned out to be tire cleaning and a lot of other gopher work for him. He comes waltzing up between motos carrying five hot dogs. He proceeds to tear one hot dog in two and he presents us each half. To this day I can still see him in a trance like state sitting there staring at his bike absolutely inhaling dog after dog. He also gave a lot more attention to the female scorer who happened by. When she was around we were effectively chopped liver. So much for the legendary Rick Siemen.
Great news, fans of Super Hunky! I just got off the blower with Rick Sieman last night and he's bringing back "Don't Ask!" and 'Mister Know It All" with Matt Cuddy, Paul Clipper AND Dick Krause! Rick said it'll be a month or two, maybe sooner. For more information, contact me at daviddaveinternational@gmail.com
Huge fan of Super Hunky. At a time when the way to watch a pro ride was once a year at Unadilla or Southwick, Rick painted an animated story that put us right inside the pro world with stories so funny I almost made me pee my pants. My brother and I treasured the Dirt Bike magazines like the stoners of the period cherished albums. Thanks so much for your real contribution to the culture Super Hunk!
Super Hunky is the man! He must be in his 70's not, had a stroke, cancer, total knee replacement, and is still riding! He is the best dirt-bike writer/storyteller ever!!!
When Rick left Dirt Bike magazine it was all down hill from there as far as I'm concerned. I'm 51 years old and don't care for dirt bikes with over 8" of suspension travel. Yes I'm a moldy oldy !!!
He is the main man and the main reason I as so many young guys in those days read and rode dirt bikes and still do.I am 50 years old with 3 grown sons and 18 year old daughter we all ride dirt bikes just not as much as when they where growing up.I really miss those times.enjoy them when you can.
@cultofthumpers A video of all his stories? Hmmm. Wasn't "Monkeybutt" punishment enough? I read it at least 8 times...so far. I would like him, or somebody like him...or anybody, dammit! To start a new mag called Vintage Dirt Bike that would test/race vintage D.B's from like '66 up. Include English bikes.(the bigger, the better) Sure, I got old D.B. on disc, but...Yeah, Rick is a legend. We need a huge bronze statue of him and erect it in front of B.L.M. headquarters. TT500's forever!
ive got a slightly modified 1978 MX 175 that goes like a scalded cat...i would love to race it against other vintage bikes for fun....great vid...looks like a lot of fun!!!
I had a buddy who was one of the mechanics at Mid Valley. I sure miss those days, and all the guys in the video! CZ, Maico, Husky, and the rest ARE all great. Just go to a vintage race and you'll see what was winning then is still winning today!
He’s a legend, used to look forward every month to reading his column!!!
