Jonathan Edwards was in my dormitory, Gamertsfelder Hall, Ohio University, in Athens Ohio in the mid sixties. He was the nicest fellow, not a mean bone in his body. Johnathan was an art student at the time, and his art work was thoughtful and creative. An expert in acoustic guitars, I loved how he could get two melodies going simultaneously using Travis-style picking. I had an electric guitar at the time, and one day we decided, with a dorm mate who had a drum set, to form a band. There were two brothers off-campus who had a place where we could set up and practice, they played guitar and bass. So we formed a band called the St. James Doorknob (a play on the song St James Infirmary) and became popular for about a year and a half in the college town of Athens, Ohio. Jonathan wanted to make music his life's work and the drummer and I wanted to finish college, so Jonathan moved on to other bands and eventually a satisfying solo career. I had a long career in engineering so everything worked out for all of us. It's obvious from his videos how wonderful a person he is, but I'm here to tell you that he's got an even greater heart and a natural talent for music.
