Why do employers look for those who already have the experience rather than displaying the willingness to start a career? It sounds cold to only gate keep their potential from developing a career, is it because it is time costly to train someone up to speed or is it to test if a candidate will stay?

Thanks for a terrific review... I've just started taking this course, paid for by "Hiring Our Heroes." It's good to get an idea of what I'm really in for. I'm also currently going thru training with a very successful Internet Marketer (of course, I had to pay for that!).

Here’s the biggest issue I see, as a digital marketer. 1) We’ve gone overboard on certifications. Spending a few hours to learn something without consistent application doesn’t make you an expert. Without being a seasoned professional, you’re not going to make the money. 2) Unfortunately, snake oil salesman have slithered their way into social media selling people on the idea of getting my fast if they just did this certificate or just sold digital products. You may have success, but that’s the exception…not the rule. Imagine you’re standing at a lake. You just stand there and watch it. You haven’t dipped even a toe in. This is the equivalent to getting a certificate. Certificates are like reading an owners manual. But for anyone who wants to learn more, there’s a lot of free or low cost ways to get practice. When I was starting out, organic social was still decent and it was at the time when the power of micro influencers were a thing (because millions of followers doesn’t mean sales). I paired it with my hobby and my goal was to show that even with 1,000 followers I could get above avg engagement. Concept was proven and even had companies come to me because I was part of a gardening community in Southern California and we all talked on and off social media. This was a talking piece for me when I had limited skills and experience. I could show I was willing to experiment and test. Now I do demand gen, which itself is an evolution of terms. For awhile we said full stack marketer. I just say I’m an in-house marketer and I can command multiple channels to achieve a goal. There is no channel or certificate that can teach you these things. That requires getting deeper into that lake I mentioned earlier. That’s why so many articles and RUclips channels are the same. These people have limited experience in digital marketing and niche industries (no shade meant to this channel). Digital marketing is so much more than content creation, entertainment, or even paid media.

Great Review! Im presently taking the google digital marketing/ECommerce course on Coursera, and im loving it. Although i dont think im interested in a career in digital marketing. I think i want a social media career instead 😅. Marketing = Results, and i dont want that headache. Promoting brands and creating awareness is my niche but anything more than that (like persuading customers to make purchase, or increasing sales) is a big headache. Maybe i need more advise on this.

Seth Hymes’ course worked for me. He was one of the first to start selling a course DM jobs in 2016. He’s got more testimonials than anyone ever selling a course on getting DM jobs.. It was not get a job tomorrow course. You still have to put the work in. He has a track record. I’m not his affiliate. I’m not dropping his links. I’ve been in SEO years and got a job with his course. Course Careers I know had success with tech sales jobs, and I think getting a job in that field is more their lane, being that’s where their CEO came from…. But to each is own….

I have such ADHD and I find it very hard to stick with anything, because of the way content is delivered in these online courses. But there's something about the way you deliver your content, that is exceptional for someone that learns the way I do. I can't thank you enough.

right i found your review pretty accurate that I am doing in this course, week 3now. it does seems like beating around the bush to actually exactly what i need to do, yet digital marketing itself has a variety of system, know how, and understandings. so. its a lot. as you mentioned about the fundamental of Marketing, any suggestion course or youtube video i can look at?
