Does the 17 round mag fit flush with this frame ? I want to order it for my x macro
Red Dots are good but I hear there is something better.
I wouldn't know about that.
Thanks. I use iron sights except for one Red Dot for longer ranges. I shoot fine with irons if I keep up with shooting. I was considering this but not now for $200 and likely no better or worse than irons. I use X/S Big Orange Dot. I have older eyes and this type works fine on my G19. I routinely practice at 15 yards.
I commented on their page saying this is a huge step backwards and they replied “it’s more accurate than a red dot and will never run out of batteries” what a dumb reply to something that requires changing a battery every 50,000 hrs.
If you go to Cylees website direct that optic is only $116.00 now.
I saw this video in passing. I’ve also just revived this AIM system from @sofindustries as a challenge to test from my initial negative impression from the comfort of my cellphone and man-chair. My mean comments sparked a response from them, which has grown to the offer of them providing a slide outfitted with their sight. I figure I give it a chance and compare it to both traditional irons and a red dot optic. I’ll be headed to the range in the next week or two then making a video on my findings with comparable data. I’m not sure if they sent this sight to many other ‘pro’ shooters for testing/review but for reference of my background and experience: I am a retired Green Beret out of 1st Special Forces group. I was formally a rifle/pistol firearms and tactics instructor for the 1st SFG SFAUC committee. I am also a USPSA PCC GM (TY94333), but i haven’t competed in two-ish years due to my transition into retirement/newborn children/new career in law enforcement. I am Technically a production M class shooter, but that’s only due to my PCC classification. I am a solid B class pistol shooter. I think my feedback will cover the combat-side of shooting perspective more so than you’ve covered, but since I also understand the competition world, I will try and correlate that side as well. Fundamentally, there isn’t a difference though. I will be fair and impartial with my test and review. more to follow…
Solid work!!
I stumbled on your channel a few months ago, good solid home grown content. Based on the target size and the physics of an iron sight, which this system is just a snake-oiled version of, there is no way it can be applicable in a target sport. There are better ways to flush $200 with only part of the solution in the package. Your review is solid and the manufacturer is butt hurt. It might make some merit if they can get a real speed shooter, ripping through some steel challenge or plate racks. Thanks for honesty of your review.
Nice opinion.
@TAC719 thank you.
Like the price point on this. looking to add this to my M&P I have a sig m18 with Romeo pro 01 and it’s the best glass and dot I have seen. Sorry yours was not very good.
I thought it was quite a good dot.
Sounds like a real game changer. So I think the reason they teach the thumb behind the slide technique. Is that’s how close you have to be to hit ur target with that sight. 😂 muzzle contact accurate with powder burns, every time. Tactical AF.
To be honest I have never heard of that, but in very very remote cases it may be a viable option.
The fact that he states in one of his videos he's got an affiliate link in the works for this sight explains why he's defending it and professing the benefits of it over an optic. Nuff said.
Yup. There may be an afflict link coming soon, but I wouldn't vouch if I didn't believe in its capability or potential.
I saw this a few months ago and immediately dismissed it as a gimmick. I hate to be a Fudd and just dismiss shit out of hand without really looking at it... so thanks for taking one for the team, now I don't have to suffer and can get back to pointing and laughing. 👍
😅🤣
lol
I stand by my original statement. These sights will go nowhere and not a single “professional shooter” of any magnitude is using or endorsing this product. We will never see a Racaza, Stoeger, Vogel, Grauffel, or similar competition shooter utilize this product in a match over a red dot. They are making preposterous claims and everyone in the know, already knows.
I am going to buy one of these and become better than all those guys.
😅@@robertbartlett5110
lol
I’m going to have to try this device but I’m going to ask for a blacked out serrated version. I think they sell the fiber front now? I’m training/practicing to be target focused at all distances so I don’t wanna get sucked into irons.
IMHO, Save your money and get a decent dot.
@ I have a Romeo 1 pro and a 508T just waiting for guns
Pro shooter huh? gimme their practiscore results and IDPA / USPSA numbers.
@@StarFoxCraft I’d be shocked if their “professional shooter” even has a PractiScore login username/password much less an IDPA or USPSA member number.
He is an IDPA member, but I'm not gonna blast him out. If he wants his info out there, he can put it out there. I don’t wanna punch down, so I'll leave it at that.
@@dz-214 understood
This is interesting.
the front sight this was designed for is a .300 height FSP which clearly isn’t what you were using when filming your video. None of the competition shooters we’ve given this to for feedback have had any of these issues you were having. Some shot slightly low at first but for different reasons. They also shot around with it for several hundred rounds before shooting in a competition so they could get a feel for it and learn how to use it as it is an entirely new sighting solution. We can appreciate you wanting to just dive right in and document your experience, but we can’t help but comment how this video you have made doesn’t do a good job representing what this sight is capable of achieving. We would have loved the opportunity to communicate with you like we have been the other channels who will be releasing content over this sight soon. Let us know what you would like to do, we will give you the recommended FSP for free so you can have another opportunity to give this sight a true opportunity if that’s what you wish. We will even ship you ammo so it’s not on your dime. Again, we just can’t help but think this was a rushed production on your end without learning the sight first because we just haven’t seen anyone shoot like that with this sight after a good trial period of learning the sight and quickly figuring out how it works. Maybe we should do a better job creating content that illustrates those principles? Standby for more content coming soon with professional competition shooters showing you what this sight is truly capable of.
@@SOFIndustries he installed your sight and used it as advertised and showed the results. That’s not “rushing production” that’s showing the capabilities. Not sure if you are aware but he is a master class shooter in many divisions in IDPA. He was shooting the IDPA classifier with a master score with a red dot but couldn’t replicate those results with your sights. I’m curious to see what your “professional competition shooters” really look like.
The front sight used in the final session is a .300 height. I changed to that in an effort to be as fair to your product as possible. The only reason I used a supressor height in the match is because that's what it appeared to be in your promotional material. Your website specifically says "compatible with traditional front post sights and some modified sight posts" on a picture of someone holding it using a glock plastic front sight. If your module was designed for a certain height. You've not told the consumer about it, as there were no directions in the package, and the QR code just took me to your website. If you specify the height somewhere on your website, I couldn't find it. If there is a recommended sight height, you should tell your customer that, or sell the sight with a front post. For the cost, it would definitely be appropriate to include a front sight. On our comment thread on your video, I told you I would buy it and review it. I don't know how better to communicate my intention to you than to tell you what I'm going to do. So you had the opportunity to communicate with me. I'd probably think the same thing, the rushing the video thing, if I were you, I'd have to. But I rushed it no more than any other sighting system review. And if this is as every bit as good as a red dot, as you've claimed, every red dot review I've done has been treated similarly. Your product actually received more attention and trigger time than any red dot, in so far as an initial trial period. Red dots get zeroed and shot in a match, maybe 15 rounds. I shot your product while zeroing another red dot and shot around 100 rounds, then shot the video a few weeks later. The zeroing process wasn't shown in the video, the same as it isn't in any other video. Someone on your video commented that this is an analog red dot, and you replied, "Correct." And you've also commented that your module is every bit as good as a red dot. If it is, why does it need a longer trial period? So, I don't feel your sight was given unfair treatment. In fact, just the opposite, I went further with your system in an effort to be as fair to it as possible, with the limited information you provide to your customer. I appreciate your kind offer to send a front sight and ammo, I mean it that's very kind. However, I don't accept things like that from companies. I've done all the investing of time and effort I feel is warranted and appropriate with your system, and anyhow, I've already tried the height you'd send. I've got a shooting season beginning soon, so I'm set to training for that. You seem like good guys who genuinely believe you've got something here. I don’t agree. But I'm not unreasonable. I'll make you a deal. If you acknowledge these results, that it isnt as every bit as good as a red dot only you'll know, and I'll know. Just comment, "Please take it down," and I will. That will be the end of it. I'll just be one guy out there who didn't like it.
@@dz-214 We clearly need to be more clear in our instructions. Thank you for your feedback regarding the lack of information on installation and zeroing. We will be making that content and implementing those changes on our website immediately to prevent further mishaps like this from occurring. In regards to the FSP mishap, I can see your perspective on why you thought any FSP will do, even when the product description says “When paired with a .300” height, tritium or fiber-optic illuminated FSP, the sight picture mirrors that of an analog red dot.” And that is most definitely on us. In regards to the sight, we are more than confident that it works as intended and there will very shortly be several other videos posted that other high level comp shooters are currently making that will do a splendid job showcasing that. We aren’t really sure what you are doing at the end there that is causing similar issues, you stated that it’s a standard height Ameriglow FSP and that once again, isn’t what this sight was designed to be used in conjunction with. It sounded like you were using the two dots at the bottom, if that is the .300 height FSP, you don’t use the two dots at the bottom, you put it in the middle using the reference lines on the sides and top. We understand you seldom get another opportunity at a first handshake in the market (or anywhere) and that is on us. In regards to the offer, we aren’t concerned about the ratio of bad to good reviews on this product as those who have purchased (so far) and took to the range were genuinely interested in learning how this works and after figuring it out have used this to the desired effect of red dot accuracy and speed. If you would like to ship it back and get a refund, we understand. This video will make us a better company. We will be taking the info you have provided and will be doing a better job articulating what we clearly haven’t. We truly do appreciate you taking the time to try it out and make a video over it and are regretful on what we should have articulated better regarding installation and how to use it. Thank you again! Please let us know if there is anything else we can answer question wise or if there is anything else we can do for you.
@SOFIndustries Fair enough, guys. I appreciate your candor. I think it's fine to agree to disagree. And I've said it elsewhere if you haven't seen it, I'll say it again, (before hearing about the .300 designed FSP. I see now the place on your website that says so, but as you said it was confusing as in two other places it has conflicting compatibility information) that there is probably a front sight that will work better with this thing, and I am intrigued to see what others come up with. I'm not above discovering I was wrong, obviously. As I discussed, I was wrong about the thumb thing. Maybe time will prove me wrong about the module. Again, I appreciate your offer, but I'd prefer to keep it. I dont plan to do a lot more with it, especially during the shooting season, but I might come back to it at some point. Thanks for engaging.
@@PPSChadwick That's awesome he is a masterclass, but shouldn't a master class have a better grouping with any sight they use?
Great video J.B. -thanks for buying and sharing your results! This ridiculous sight doesn’t provide shooter ability to perceive errors in alignment between muzzle and target (aka, “aiming”), particularly important on small / distant targets. Like you demonstrated, about the only range where potentially it could be reliably employed is within ~7 yards -ranges where use of sights is likely not needed anyway! Regarding keeping slide in battery with thumb while pressing muzzle into target: When instructing for State CJTC I regularly taught this technique (“Braced Contact”) to recruits and instructors -definitely proven viable and has been successfully used against both, two and four legged threats.
Hey if it works it's right, the thumbing the slide thing, it's just not something I know about or have experience with. If nothing else I learned about that from this experience!
Gimmicky nonsense sold by people who are disconnected.
It's so easy to say something is Gimmicky without testing it yourself.
With a trademarked name like the "Diamond of Death", it's so shocking these aren't more accurate......
😆
The bore axis is definitely lower and better than the LCP.
Having taking both classes and shooting competitions for years now. This is just silly nonsense. the tactical Timmy’s that show up to the matches don’t last but a match or two maximum. They can’t wrap their minds around how poorly they shoot compared to the average low level shooters at the club. In a gun fight you still have to be fast enough to matter. And have the ability to put rounds on target accurately at speed. shooting and tactics are two different things. You can teach tactics without a firearm. I believe the term is cognitive dissonance.
I'm not sure who this is directed at or what you are referring to as silly nonsense? I agree with some of what you've said...
@ oh wow. I made this comment on a different video entirely. A guy was saying shooting competitions would get you killed. I have no idea how this ended up here. Must have been a glitch in the RUclipss. For the record anyone who shoots bug is cool in my book. I love it. Rapidly becoming my favorite Div. Feels fast and dynamic, even tho it has more moving parts than the other divs.
@travispowell2471 lol thats crazy! but RUclips does weird stuff sometimes! I read it and I thought, seems like he's responding to someone who's not here? Lol, well, right on man, yeah I am a fan of BUG too!
I love the idea of allowing optics in all divisions, but I don’t think that is likely to happen just yet. That being the case, I would like to see Compact Carry Optic (CCO) before a BUG optic division. It would be interesting to see an optic division tailored to the most commonly carried compact handguns (which I thought was the impetus behind the sport and its rule set). If you give guys who want to be competitive the extra space and weight, they are generally going to take it - at least I am. I think it would be a blast to have a division based on the equipment I actually carry everyday. Just cut a hole in the top of the current CCP box, add 2 oz., and call it a day! 🤙🏼
I'm not against that idea, my only response would be that CCP sized is just too similar to the current iteration of Carry Optics. I think one day dots will be in all divisions and we will have something like a "classic" division which is irons. Literally just an inversion of our current divisional structure. I agree that IDPA isn't likely to be the first mover in this. I think asking for dots in BUG is a smaller ask and might be easier granted while we negotiate our way to the end state I just mentioned. I think BUG is dissimilar enough to be meaningfully different than CO. I appreciate your thoughts! I'd be happy with either change realistically.
I’d find either course of action acceptable, provided they modernize division capacity for BUG and go back to the previous box dimensions. There were a lot of pissed off people who had their long-established BUG guns knocked out of contention the last time they tightened the height and length. 15-round compacts and comparably sized slimlines are still the benchmark for personal defense among folks who put in the work. I know the micro-9s are enjoying their time in the sun again at the moment. Given the choice, I just don’t personally like having to compromise with a pistol that provides sub-optimal surface area for my fat paws. ✋🏼
@@LeadTherapy-VA totally agree. Decreasing the box dimensions in 2017 really hurt BUG.
Just ordered the Cat that has the fiber optics built into the rear. Using it for a Sig build for idpa as well.
I've been thinking of switching this one out for that one. Let me know how you like it. Also I took it in the ocean and the pool. They are definitely fully submersible, as advertised.

Thanks for the analysis! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
I still think we should end the distinction between sighting systems for divisions. Add cut outs to every box, 2.5 oz of added weight to allow for optics, and then fold CO into ESP. People can then choose to shoot irons or dots in every existing division. Other changes, bump ESP/CO capacity to 15+1, BUG and REV to 8rnds. Change Stage Max Round Count to 21 Just my opinion, and I don’t know how to get momentum behind it without starting my own sport
Dude, I'm on board with all those changes. I have similar ideas.

We ran an outlaw match with Bug Optics and CCP Optics divisions. No other divisions were present and it was a huge hit. People want something like this from IDPA.
The time has come!
Congrats! You certainly faked me out with your “provisional BUG Optics” intro. That led me to the IDPA web site where I discovered that the Down Zero Blog is now the only way IDPA will communicate to the members. Why they can’t send out an email blast to the membership describing rule changes escapes me. Or why one must log in to see what changes are in store, or what rules changed without following every marketing blurb HQ posts on their blog. I learned decades ago that when I wondered how or why something happened, the answer was “Follow the money.” IDPA is no exception. As for How IDPA Rules change? From my perspective, it’s very simple. . . when the owners of IDPA decide that they want to change a rule or create a new rule, they do it. Following the money illustrates several classic examples including the original CCP rule, the current CCP rule, and the PCC rule that were implemented with new products coming out of Wilson Combat. OTOH, there is a history of rule changes made to exclude certain firearms; changing CDP weight from 43 to 42oz after the 2007 Nat’s is an example. It seems to me that the new rules allowing integrated comps are the result of pressure from industry supporters. Rule changes that are advantageous to new firearms are certainly good for business, especially firearms with a competitive advantage, but not so much for the general membership running existing firearms. This is reinforced by the fact that the new rules limiting integrated comps in divisions where manufacturers are marketing them, which also happen to be the most popular divisions. OTOH, shooting rules governing tactics seem to be much more random and subject to the whims of those making the rules. Reloading rules are a classic example as they seem to change with the most frequency and often significantly, along with the associated round dumping rule changes. What was A-OK is suddenly verboten, or vice-versa.
Yeah? I’m into it I’ve got the macro / xl mod ready to go

Allow video reviews.. its 2024!
Bug optics ftw!!! Excellent video
Can't paint hardcover on more than 50% of the target. Forcing matches that IDPA doesn't run to include BUG is dumb, why should a range have to have a division no one shoots? PCC no hammer down is dumb. They cleaned up the DQ rule after the JJ fiasco. MEZ Rule getting cleaned up was a good idea.
Wilson Combat releases an appendix holster-suddenly, appendix carry is allowed in IDPA. Then they release a PCC, and just like that, PCC becomes an optional division. My attempts to suggest adding optics to the BUG division or other suggestions have followed the same lack of clarity or response as yours.
I ran mine through a similar course in 90° North Carolina heat and humidity putting about 350 rounds through it and it ran flawlessly
So far, so good for me, too! A few more matches under my belt...
Not sure how old the kids are but Valdosta is only about 3 hours from Orlando. Could make it a Universal/Disney trip after the match.
Thats not a bad idea...we did Disney World when I was down in Brunswick for some training. I bet I could get them to sign on for that....good tip!
FYI, Just recieved my Mechanik M01 Red Dot Site and it has been redesigned/upgraded. When I opened the package there were two tools instead of the 4 way tool shown in most videos of the Mechanik M01 site. There is a tool that looks like a little cross and it is for unscrewing the o-ring sealed battery cap on the top inside of the Mechanik M01 red dot site. That's right, you do not have to remove the Mechanik M01 site from the gun anymore to replace the battery as it is replaceable from the top inside of the red dot site! But, The battery is now a CR1632 with 30,000 hrs,(3.5 yrs instead of 60,000hrs.on the first Gen.). Also the bottom of the site has a metal plate with screws and it says to be o-ring sealed, WATERPROOF. You get a waterproof site that you can replace the battery without removing from your gun but smaller battery CR1632 and half the hours of the original/ 30,000 hours (3.5 years) instead of 60,000 hours (6.5 years) on the first Gen. I'm OK with that!
That doesn't sound too bad dude! I must have just gotten the old one. What did you put it on? I wonder if that solved the issue with the dot not sitting quite flush on the 365 slide?
If IDPA would change the division capacity in BUG to a modern capacity like 10+1 they would open up more participants by that alone.
Preach!
Sheepdog was truly a test and I loved it!
Thanks for the ideas. Relative background. . . Back in the day, I shot the first two National BUG matches at S&W in Massachusetts, first with my wife’s 2.5” S&W 686, then with an M&P Compact. Also, the Indoor Nationals at S&W with my 686 SSR. More recently, I shot CCP at the 2021 Nationals in Colorado. In between, I’ve shot both the USPSA Single Stack and Revolver Nationals at PASA Park, IL and ICORE’s IRC in Nevada. While there’s a certain cool factor in having a mega Nationals with all the divisions represented, I personally like it better when Nationals are split up with similar divisions competing together, ala USPSA. For example, one combination could be CO & PCC, another could be BUG & Revolver, the two low-capacity divisions. That leaves SSP, ESP & CCP. Some might prefer combining CCP with BUG & Revolver, but I believe that the CCP rule change to 10-round mags completely removes CCP from any idea that the division is limited in capacity. Also, the newish 15-round rule for SSP makes that division more than competitive with ESP & its slightly smaller brother, CCP. Additionally, while splitting Nationals up by division or groups of divisions would be more work for HQ, it would serve the membership better by (a) providing national venues around the country much more than we’ve ever seen before, and (b) create opportunities for many to compete in multiple nationals each year, and (c) open the door for smaller facilities to host a national championship due to a somewhat smaller turnout.
Dude, I totally agree, and thanks for the background. Sounds like we like a lot of the same divisions. I see what you're saying with putting CCP with the big guns because of capacity. I don’t disagree. I guess there is just something that makes me want to clump it together with BUG because I feel like CCP is where the game gets a little closer to carry guns than full size guns no one really carries. Realistically, though, I wouldn't super care which place it went. I think more national matches are just more for people to get excited about and helps grow the sport, which is what HQ is or ought to be thinking about. Thanks for your thoughts.
@@dz-214If we could return to CCP's original capacity rule (8-round mags), I'd agree with combining it with BUG & Revolver. However, now that HQ changed the rule to 10-round mags, CCP is now identical to ESP with only one detail difference; being slightly smaller. Unfortunately, the new CCP rule also disallows virtually all of the compact double-stack 1911s, except for W/C. I’d love to be able to run my Staccato C or C2 in CCP, but both are a fraction of an inch too tall. Yes, I would like to see IDPA return to its roots and align the rules with its founding statement of values. Theoretically, one of IDPA’s stated values is avoiding the equipment competition game and its associated expense. Yet, recent rule changes have made both of my CCP guns obsolete because their native capacity is only 8+1, and the new rule allows comps, so there’s another $2K for a comp-equipped gun for ESP or CO. It’s not that I don’t like buying another gun, its that the rules no longer comply with the founding concepts. It’s no secret that very few folks actually carry guns that are competitive in SSP, ESP, CDP, or CO, and especially PCC. That leaves CCP & BUG as the only two divisions in IDPA that 99% of the public consider for EDC. The bottom line is that I think we agree that we could grow the sport better if our divisions were more closely aligned with EDC guns AND EDC carry holsters; get rid of the basic pouch worn at 3 o’clock, except for the full. Personally, I’d like to see (1) BUG, (2) CCP but slightly larger to accommodate the other maker’s double-stack 1911s, Sig P229s and so on that are currently just a smidge too big, (3) CO, and (4) full-size service pistols regardless of action type. Commensurate with this is getting realistic about holsters. The full-size service pistol division could use the traditional pouch holster at 3 o’clock, yada yada, however all other divisions would require IWB (includes AIWB) or pancake with the grip touching the body.
@@dz-214 they really need to make a CCP optics division. the true daily carry division.
@fuzzyeyezzz if they made the box smaller I'd agree. But dots kn a commander 1911/2011is just CO again IMO. BUG optics would be my jam if we kept the current division sizes.
@@dz-214 you're absolutely right on the size, a 4.2/4.3" with optics is essentially the same as CO, if they make weight. BUG optics would be nice, again, there is the round limit and popular micro-compact guns such as p365xl and G43x cannot make box without cutting the frame. This is tough.
Great video. Definitely something to consider.
We just got back from Sheepdog. It is an extremely well run match, we were shocked how quickly we were done, it flowed perfectly. The staff does a great job.
Great idea. I think there should be shared stages to see how you would shoot it with SSP vs BUG vs CDP.
What division in IDPA does this setup fall into?
It would only work in Carry Optics under the current rulebook. I'm hoping they add a small gun dot division.
The Mecanik M01 fits perfectly on the Canik MC9LS. included screws with the M01 don't of course. The Canik MC9LS slide optic cover plate screws with their washers fit the M01 red dot. Your Wilson/Sig 365 RMSc footprint on the slide is a bit too short or the Canik M01 red dot sight is a little too long. You are having some interference at the ends of the foot print or with the slide's lugs. I have had issues before like this with other RMSc red dots and other pistols with RMSc footprints. Manufacturing tolerances on red dot sights and/or slides can sometimes not be compatible.
Interesting, thanks for the info! It's too bad I really like the sight. I may have to get an MC9LS!
Mine has night sights and they have died barely can see in a jet black room
