Released in April 1990 by HMV, "November Spawned a Monster" was written by Moz and Clive Langer and featured Andy Rourke, Moz's former colleague from the Smiths, on bass guitar. It reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart. It appears on Moz compilation album Bona Drag (October 1990).
The song describes the troubles of the disabled. Morrissey uses words such as "monster" and "twisted" to attempt to create a mix of revulsion, sympathy, and black comedy.
