Roadtrip in the 2024 Prius Prime - NY to FL
In this video, I drive my 2024 Toyota Prius Prime from Westchester County, NY to Spring Hill, FL with my yellow labrador, Kodi.
The entire trip down cost just under $100 in fuel, travelling between 70-80 mph the whole way.
The car performed very well, was super comfortable and extremely economical on this 18 hour journey.
The only stops I made were for fuel. At these fuel stops, I would refresh with snacks, a quick bathroom break and 5-10 minute walk for the dog. Fuel stops lasted no longer than 20 minutes each.

7°F outside. Haven’t started truck in about a week. Cold start with remote starter. Extremely loud turbo whistle when elevated idle kicks in. Sounds awesome!

How tf u fit a turbo in it. Theres no damn room in mine
omg it was an absolute nightmare. the on3 kit was supposed to be able to fit factory ac but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get it to fit.
My kia does this.
@@DanielAlvarez-lo3fd that’s so cool 😎
Thanks for sharing❤
Awesome video! Thank you for the help! Are the Colorado and the canyon the same truck just sold by different company’s? My canyon looks exactly like your Colorado.
The Canyon and Colorado are both produced by General Motors and share a majority of its components. They're essentially the same truck with slight cosmetic differences. I'm glad this video helped!
How do you like those firestone tires so far? Also what size are they?
ahh i dont remember the size, but they were stock tires from a 2016 jeep wrangler willys. They were absolutely great and fit perfectly with no lift on the suspension. lost a few mpg, but they rode great, looked even better and lasted a very long time before needing replacement.
Hey, when youre just driving around town will this car automatically keep itselfed centered in the lane or do yoh have set cruise control every single time?
What’s your MPG?
i've sold the truck last year, but i was averaging around 30 mpg. that includes lots of local driving and towing. on a typical highway commute, i could get mid to high 30's. once i swapped to larger tires, i lost my gains and dropped to high 20's-low 30's
@@the_salty_captainive got a 4" lift and larger tires on stock 17s and average 22-34 depending on tail/headwind and hills lol. i gotta 16' z71 myself and love it. how come you moved on?
@@HazeyKadin trans was starting to shudder for the third time, had 120k miles and was also going to need expensive timing belt service as well as tires. plus the price of diesel got outta control. had it 7 years and it was just time to move on> i do miss it though. she was a good little truck
Out of curiosity, do you notice a hum on the electric motor at any speed over 118kmh??
This type of technology they had even in the previous gen Prius. Still a really nice car
Thank you very helpful
Well that's heavenly, filter at the top of the engine and easily accessible drain plug 😊, I'm considering buying an Aussie Colorado and that has convinced me. Along with the 500nm of torque and 147kw Duramax.😅
How did you get away with that in new york seeing how it needs to be pluged in for inspection.
somehow with the canadian tune, it plugged in and passed just fine. no cel or anything. i suppose if certain parameters in the ecu are deleted entirely, the inspection only reads pass or fail from existing parameters. at least that's how it was explained to me. complicated stuff.
Who did you get the kit from ?
@@gooseman26 FloPro but I had to order it from Canada. Luckily they were able to ship it to me in NY. Might be a little more difficult to have it shipped now.
Flopro doesn't have the kit anymore
@@the_salty_captainFinally an answer on this! Time to celebrate in NY! I was commuting an hour with my 2.8 the DPF trashes all hope at fuel economy. Even at 65 mpg once it regens you’re screwed.
What did you use to tune it?
tunerstudio ms
So you’re using the Holley sniper EFI?
@@ChieffinOnReefer no sorry I misunderstood your question. It's a megasquirt ecu. the tuning software is tunerstudio ms
@@the_salty_captainwhat injectors? What fuel pump? What ecu?

I'm still waiting for my Prius Prime to come in.
Can I get an update on this? What's the slack time on your delivery? I'm lookin to get one for myself, wondering how snappy Toyota's supply chain is.
@@ShadowLancer128 I finally purchased my Prius Prime in March 2024. I could have had it earlier, but I waited for "the advanced tech package," which took an additional two months of waiting, and I had to go to a dealership outside of NYC. I love the car; it's a significant upgrade from my 2010 Prius. It was worth the wait.
What year is ur chevy I have 2018 canyon 2.8
2016
This is smart cruise control not autopilot
Waiting for the comma 3 to become available. Still pretty cool though
My 2017 accord does this
My 2021 Camry does the same thing so this isnt new
New to me. Never had such cool tech in a car before.
@vi811per I absolutely love it. Congrats again on the new purchase
Yea, but it's still a Prius, so...
I know. Def not deserving of still being called a Prius anymore. Almost as much hp as my srt4 had when I bought it brand new. It hurts to admit I own one now haha. Toyota should’ve called it something else
Prius is a great looking car with this gen
Prius is one of the best of the Toyota
Tesla technology inside of Toyota?
No, it's just cruise control. It does NOT drive itself it barely helps you keep in the middle of the lane, if there is a shaper turn it will not slow down and I guarantee you will fly to other lanes.
No because the Prius doesn't catch fire 😂
@@xincui7084yeah no, not on Volkswagen. Got a lane assistant that uses gps to notice turns and crossing and slows down accordingly. I could set my cruise control to 50km/h and the assistant will steadily drop it down to 25km/h on a turn, and go back to its original speed afterwards.
@@xincui7084 never seen a car that steers itself before. I know teslas can fully self drive but it’s like a 12k option. Just thought this was pretty cool.
@@the_salty_captainyeah but even standard Tesla's still do drive themselves on the marked Lanes
My 2020 explorer does this
2019 Golf too.
Does it switch lanes?
Im not willing to pay 20k for it to
It doesn't
I do t think so. First day driving the car still learning it. Never had such cool tech in a car before.
I like the steering wheel lwk tho
@@the_salty_captain I love it congrats on the new purchase
What company made the LED taillights 🤔
I can't remember, I bought them on ebay about 6 years ago... I think it had "eagle" in the name but I could be wrong.
Nice sounding truck were you get you diet from ?
I had to order it from Canada about 4 or 5 years ago. I dont remember the company name, but the exhaust was Flo-Pro and this was the version without the muffler.
Great video. This same truck is my first diesel so this help. Does anyone have any experience changing the exhaust particulate filter (EPF)? I can't get the threads to break.
Good info.. thanks for sharing.
I’ve got the ‘19 ZR2 and the “tune” is a game changer. MPG increased and the torque is crazy high. I bought it pre-owned and the previous owner did $15k in suspension upgrades and tire/wheels. The particulate filter continuously gave me problems so I bought a “tune” through HD Diesel and took care of it once I got the check engine light off.
Mpgs?
Was getting around 30-32 on stock tires, Went a little bigger which severely dropped me down to about 24. Tires on now were free stock tires from a wrangler willys edition. don't remember the size.
What’s the elevated idle set to on it? Sounds wicked!
It's a factory elevated idle setting that you can access in the infotainment center under climate. I guess it was intended to warm the engine quicker when remote started when outside temperatures are below a certain degree.
Just realized I didn't answer your question at all (facepalm)... Elevated idle appears to be around 900 rpm on the tach.
@@the_salty_captain wait so can you adjust it in the infotainment center?
@@812racing yes just go into settings, then climate and air quality and scroll down to elevated idle.
@@the_salty_captain oh okay awesome thank you!
Saw you were in the US. Who did your......diet?
Ordered parts and tune from Canadian companies and (un)installed myself.
Recently? I'm wanting to go on a diet myself... Need to find someone up there.
@@patrickmiess did this about 3 years ago.
Great video thank you will use it to help me do my canyon. Did you have to prime the new oil filter or just put it in and all is good? Thank you
I never primed mine and never had any issues. Can't hurt though if you decide to do so. Just be sure to lube all o-rings and make sure they're seated properly.
🔥🔥
Nice cold start!
Nice job! Very clear instructions
Thank you. Hope it helps!
Nice one bro
Thank you!
I reset the oil filter life after the change checked it read 100-% 25 miles latter it read 99% did I do something wrong
no, mine does that too. Its odd, how it fluctuates between decreasing slowly and quickly, but you should be good to go!
Thanks!
No problem!
