    My daughter just moved back from NYC. First thing she wanted was frijoles, flour tortillas, pozole, chorizo, chillaquillas, and her two favorite Italian restaurants that compete with NYC... but the southwest Mexican food just can't be replaced on the east coast!

      @@PauloBerni699 mmmm! I hope she’s eating good, and that you’re enjoying each others’ company. For something so simple, and with so few ingredients, I’ve experienced a very wide range of enjoyment from frijoles depending on who made them. I’ve had some that I found gross and barely edible, as well as some that I couldn’t stop eating. A bean burrito, with creamy frijoles, and fresh flour tortilla is probably my favorite comfort food. And, even with lots of good options, some rise head & shoulders above the rest. I’d probably miss them too if I lived in NYC.

    Maybe that tweeker was riding a stolen electric-assist bicycle because they tend to have a drop-down frame resembling a girls bike...and you know that dude didn't pay for it! I see these 40 year old men on little bmx bikes all the time near the airport where I work two days a week and often bicycle the 14 mile round trip. The thing is while I have a packed lunch, a change of clothes and personal hygiene items in my back pack, those dudes have burglary tools, and a pipe in theirs! I will only ride bicycle lanes when there's no traffic coming behind me, so I do the vast majority on sidewalks. It's good to be outdoors like that, with a phone mounted on the handlebars and plugged in to a podcast or music. I don't ride anything fancy, but it's a Giant brand commuter bicycle with a replacement seat I ordered from Canada called Spider Flex, a split-saddle seat to protect the "Plumbing" from the pressure of a conventional seat. It is very comfortable once you get the height, angle and distance from the bars dialed in. In January I bought an E-Scooter from Best Buy, and I ride that too occasionally, especially like this summer, where the heat can be 105 degrees on the return trip. I view bicycling to work as an instrument of discipline, especially when you know your car is in the driveway waiting for you! Have a good time at the comedy club.

      @@PauloBerni699 yeah, they’re usually riding stolen bikes around here too. I also avoid the bike lane in traffic; I can’t trust drivers (sober or otherwise) to not hit me. I mostly use sidewalks or the bike lane facing traffic. The comedy spot is looking less likely because open mic is a night thing on Sundays, and I’ve been up since 430. I bought a super cushy seat for this bike, but even then, nothing beats conditioning. I’m still sore from the saddle when I ride far, but not often. I hope you have a great Sunday!

    * I wanted to add that two days ago, I read a comment from a mid western white woman on the subject of Mexican food that she didn't like the cuisine because "It's too fattening" (I've heard Karen types say this before). If it's spicy or whatever and you can't tolerate or have the palate for that I get it, but at least know what you're saying. I felt compelled to reply, explaining that her concept of Mexican food is a bastardized one in which the use of deep frying, sour cream, yellow cheese, and flour tortillas for example is almost non existent or used very minimally in Mexico. Coincidentally the confluence of these ingredients perfectly describes a typical chimichanga plate, and which is a dish strongly believed to have it's origins in Arizona (I think an old Phoenix restaurant is credited for the invention). A few years ago, I ate at a restaurant in L.A. off of Olvera St. called "Chiguacle", billing itself as serving "pre-colonial, ancestral food". What we found were things like corn chips made with a combination of maiz and nopalitos, jicama and papaya among their fruit offerings, whole pinto beans, some black beans, and lots of fresh garnishings to compliment their salsitas. Everything we ate was very fresh and healthy. I could eat like that every day!. Ironically the woman who made the "Fattening" remark (I always get offended by the ignorance of that particular description) had a family photo in her profile including what appeared to be a few extended members in which every one from the little kids to the advanced middle aged were clinically obese. I continued my lesson on Mexican food by adding that even Mexico does not allow half the shit in their food production chain we find in the U.S; things like high fructose corn syrup, GMO corn and a few other chemical additives and preservatives commonly found here in domestic processed food. On top of all this, whoever the regulatory arm of the Mexican food or agricultural industry is has mandated consumer warning labels be placed on the face of packaged, processed food products they determine is high in fat, sugar and subsequently, calories. Mexico has taken a more European approach in banning ingredients allowed here by the FDA. Evidently Mexican corporate food producers aren't buying off regulatory officials like over here...

      @pincheknow-it-all5057 3 месяца назад

      As always, I appreciate the thoughtful response. My mom was conscientious of eating healthy so we ate a lot of healthy stuff with vegetables like caldos. I was just reading about feed additives for cows that make cows produce less methane. I saw that the European Union, Canada, and maybe Mexico had banned them because they weren’t sure how safe they were, or how it’ll affect humans that consume dairy products from those cows. But the USA approved them as safe. Made me wonder what else they approve that others don’t. I do see the excess sugar labels on Mexican products.

    I don’t want to sound like some kind of perro in my previous comment so allow me to conclude my sentiments this way:If we could take all the immigrants already here illegally or in violation of their visas, have them present and prove a sound history of employment and general good societal participation (no felony arrests, or ID theft, etc) I am all for a path to citizenship, because we need the workers and they want to be here, so it’s a mutually beneficial thing. The border though, going forward needs to be closed. One of my concerns about a massive labor force of illegal immigrants being given Carte Blanche in this society as we have seen since Biden set foot in office is that these politicians are definitely not operating from a place of altruism. I am concerned and fully confident that they are consigning these gentes to a life of permanent, second class servitude citizenry, I don’t like them being used as pawns for political purposes, for votes. It is inhumane, subjugating and pisses me off for them. A historian and observer of the history of Mexicans in this country said it best: “Mexicans have historically been regarded solely for their utilitarian purposes by the U.S. government who have little interest in them for anything else”. I never forgot that line. It has always resonated with me, and it loans itself to what seems like contradictory sentiments on the issue of illegal immigrants coming from me, but it’s not. One thing open borders proponents have always fired back at me as a first line of defense in commentaries is: “But WHO is going to (fill in the blank at low paying menial work in the agricultural or hospitality industries). The implication here of course is that they only want the brown people here to make THEIR lives more comfortable, convenient and affordable. They don’t give a shit about the people you and I were around in our respective communities and many would detest living next door to them. Anyway, now I want flautas like your mom used to make (my wife only makes them like once a year..🙁)

    No one will ever accuse Trump of being some great orator; he says a lot of ill-thought out, stupid shit as a matter of consensus. He's impoverished in the area of articulation of the English language when it comes to speaking in public.However, I chose and choose to view Trump's "Some, I assume are good people" flub in 2015 contextually, because he was referencing illegal immigrants from Mexico and not Mexican people in general or legal Mexican immigrants to this country, like my mother. By virtue of their manner of passage to this country, illegal immigrants have already circumvented the system in place, disregarding process and procedure. For me, it's fair to say the onus is on them to prove they have no malice in mind, and not on me to automatically assume they don't, especially in modernity, as there are so many ways to scam and take advantage of the the system now. Do I get why they cross illegally? Of course. I know the vast majority want to work, and bust their asses they do better than any home grown American. Do I agree with it fundamentally? No. My daughters SSN was procured by an illegal immigrant living and working in Texas. The mess it has caused is still not fully resolved, and that was over two years ago. There are consequences to everyday citizens when unfettered illegal immigration is allowed, but that's another subject. As far as latinos being self serving when the proclaim they're "Voting their wallet" as a basis for supporting Trump and in the same breath express contempt for fast food workers being paid $20 an hour (a wage I suspect may even rival their own, to their disdain) I interpret (and this may be conjecture) that as their subconscious saying " I'd love to be able to AFFORD to eat those $18 drive-through meals where the workers are being paid like that." The old saying "A rising tide lifts all boats" seems appropriate and applicable here. If these Chicanos and everyone else are experiencing better personal financial circumstances because they have a leader who implemented better fiscal and related economic policies, that extra income will allow them to better participate as consumers in the buying of goods and services and supporting businesses especially local ones, stimulating economic growth. In my own family, my mother and two sisters wouldn't vote for Trump the last two times because "He's an asshole". Fine, but like my older brother (he IS legitimately a businessman, retired corporate executive and long tine investor in stocks, real estate and diverse businesses and not a poser I can assure you) told one of our sisters regarding their inability to get past Trump's personality: "Do you want your kids to never be able to afford to purchase their own homes or for you to continue working until you're 70 years old with no prospects of retiring? Paulo and I already retired, how long do you want to continue this struggle?" She actually does quite well and lives in a gated community in the "White people area" but she's still carrying debt, three marriages under her belt, and in her later 50's now. My mother said when she voted for Biden: "Well I think he's okay, I like him, better than that pinchi Trump but that vieja chiflada (meaning Kamala)... no way should she ever be in charge, con favor de dios que nada le pasa a el Biden". I felt like telling her the other day: "Well ma, here we are with Kamala as your candidate" but we are both trying to avoid political conversation when we visit. As I have mentioned before, I am in Tucson AZ, a city that was mostly run by democrats, but moderate ones; Kennedy era democrat ones. Now we are in the throws of a very radical Mayor named Regina Romero who hung a massive BLM banner over a government building housing her office. This place has gone to utter shit: Roads and common areas are in a state of horrendous deterioration, crime stats off the charts, parks completely taken over by the homeless drug addicts (and of course all retail spaces, bridges and public walkways and bus stops too) a woefully understaffed police force and very little revenue being generated for the city budget because she thinks things like "Free" public transportation does not cost anything.I could go on and on but I wont. But hey, if you want to know where the latest $3 million dollar splash pads are located, where to get award winning taquitos or take in some street art, she's good right there She will walk you right over and get plenty of selfies for her media page in the process. Sonsa, tarugua y sin verguenza of a mayor is what we have (and a whole bunch of old white liberals from Portland, Seattle and Denver who voted for her. *As always, agree or disagree, I enjoyed your video presentation.

      @@PauloBerni699 thank you for well thought out response Paulo! I think we probably agree on more than not. I’m not advocating for open borders and believe a lot more could be done to curb illegal immigration, like stronger enforcement of e-verify with biometrics moving forward. It’s the dog whistles and rhetoric of Trump in general against brown folks that’s gets me. It’s not like someone can just look at us and tell the difference. I also understand someone voting with their wallet, but to see it from folks who are trying to create a reputation of altruism towards their people, strikes me as highly hypocritical. My longest standing friend (45 years) is a Trump supporter and my second longest standing friend is also a Trump supporter. Both would be there for me if I asked for their help, without question. The latter is a Trump supporter strictly on 2A, and I can understand why he supports, if not his obsession with guns. As for liberal run places looking terrible, I agree. And the unaffordable homes today are a legitimate concern to have for our children. I’m pushing my kids into engineering because that’s who I believe will always be able to afford a home; but it’s getting harder and harder. I think I’ve mentioned my mother affording to buy a home on little more than minimum wage; they can’t do that in California today. Always a pleasure to hear from you.

    I believe the woman you encountered momentarily locked eyes with you and then kept you peripherally in mind as she weaved her way towards you. It was definitely intentional and she probably was getting the vibe, even from that distance, that you are a good soul; a safe person she can approach. People sense these things. *If you've never seen the 1991 film The Grand Canyon with Kevin Kline, Danny Glover and Steve Martin (in a supporting roll) I HIGHLY recommend it. A chance encounter sets off a chain of unexpected outcomes in the lives of the key characters living in the Los Angeles area. It's thought provoking, mystical. I believe in telepathic abilities in humans, not programmable to call upon at our will and not understood by science, but a real phenomena. My wife had a few circumstances that solidified her belief (and I'm side tracking here a bit) that people under an evil spirit for example give off a negative, cautionary aura to the innocent. She is sure she saved herself from three potential very bad situations by acting on her vibes from a couple of strangers. ** Bear With This Story, Mi YT Hermano: I was somewhere in my late thirties nearly twenty five years ago when my wife, who had a busy day with our small children and related domestic duties orders a Papa John's pizza from a store one mile away to coincide the delivery with my arrival from work. I arrive home and pass a tall blond woman in her thirties wearing a red Papa John's polo and matching ball cap on my walkway as I approached my home. She smiled and we exchanged hello's. As soon as I get to the door my wife says "Shit, I thought I had four extra dollars on me to tip her with, do you have any cash?" I am a good and conscientious tipper so after I answered in the affirmative, I immediately turned back to my vehicle and drove to the Pizzeria to catch up with her. When I arrive at the store, there's maybe three young men taking phone orders, making pizzas and just trying to keep up with the madness of the rush hour pizza call-in orders. I inquire about the driver (I didn't think to take the receipt with me for reference) and they tell me they only have one female driver on staff (he describes a Latina) and she's off that day. They don't list drivers names on the receipts anyways so there no way to decisively trace who delivered what, I was told. I asked if he could call the only other Papa John's on our side of town which is five miles away. I hear the manager share my inquiry over the phone with someone at that other location. He hangs ups and relates to me that there are no female drivers whatsoever employed at the farther location. I am still deeply mystified by that incident all these years later and think about it frequently. There is a New Testament biblical passage cautioning that we may be in the company of angels and be unaware; the message being to treat strangers with benevolence. As benign and inconsequential this incident may sound, it made me question my reality and whether that person was even real or just a temporary visitor. Was she a spiritual entity manifesting in our realm as a human to test my conscience or what? I felt so guilty and regretful l that I couldn't find her (or she didn't exist?). The last thing I ever want to do is look like a selfish, entitled jerk or "Agarrado". No one delivers pizza in their own car who's not struggling financially and I think that's why it burdened my mind so much that day. Keep up the thought provoking content! 🤝👍

    Yeah pero, does it write names on the cup with smiley eyes? Seriously though, Martin Ford wrote a stark prediction about eight years ago in his book Rise of The Robots, in which basically many manual and white collar human performed jobs are replaced with AI and robots, leaving a displaced society of people with nothing to do. In its place. UBI is then ushered in by a government presumably using tax revenues from these major corporations who’ve replaced human capital with technology. The issue, aside from reliance on a government for our subsistence (I guess philosophically we are never non-government dependent one way or another) is how will people, devoid of their former responsibilities and sense of purpose when employed, find their mission or meaning for their existence? I realize there’s huevones out there who would love a lifetime sofa pass, but most people want to at least feel like they have some agency and autonomy regarding their path in life. We can’t stop technological progress though, even to our own peril it seems. Por mientras I’ll have a cafecito con creama y una cucharita de azugar!

      I’m studying for the LSAT at >50 years old, and wondering if it’s worth it. I can’t imagine AI couldn’t argue a case better than most. It’s the truck drivers I worry about most. Automated HD trucks in dedicated lanes will be devastating to those workers. A cafecito always sounds good.

      I think this robot is too slow to replace a person, and is mostly for gimmicks. Automation is a concern though. I think the biggest and most impactful casualties of automation will be heavy duty truck drivers. At some point trucks will have dedicated lanes to minimize accidents, and be self driving. Many truck drivers have middle class lives. I worry about that segment as it’s alot of people.
