East Kootenay Autumn
Просмотров 86Год назад
We enjoy getting out to see the trees changing to their fall colours even though it isn't as spectacular as in the eastern part of the country. The summer rush is over and the parks are almost empty. The snow is starting to cover the mountain peaks. I have gathered a few moments in time over the last few years. I hope you enjoy what I've put together.

Old Rossland Cascade Hwy

My wife and I traveled from Rossland to Christina Lake on the Old Rossland Cascade Highway with our RAV4. I didn't know the condition of the road so I was not sure that we could make it all the way through. In 1995 three friends and I rode our mountain bikes over this route from the Christina Lake side as part of a 4 day circle tour from Castlegar. Cameras: Mike and Lynn Editing: Mike

Kootenay River: Mary Anne Cr to Canal Flats
Even the sound of the paddle feel familiar, my backyard for the past 60 years.
I enjoyed this look at paradise I travel that route often it was like being behind the wheel even a stop at Santa Rosa I stop there every time. Your presentation of the stop was so captivating that I do believe I will be taking a trip thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting.

Hi George, this is about 5 km from Galloway on the Big Sand Cr FSR. I missed your edit yesterday.
Awesome video!
Thank you.
Love the east shore.
this was probably all shot in one afternoon. on some lake. 31 mins of raw video
The happiest place on earth is not Disneyland. Its Kootenay Lake
Nice video! How long was the drive on gravel?
Thanks. It was just over 60 km on gravel. We stopped quite a few times but the moving time was just over 2 1/2 hours.
Hey Mike, what length of kayak are you paddling? Are you concerned about damaging the bottom on the rock?
It is a 15.5 ft kayak. The bottom seems pretty tough so I don't worry a lot but I still try not to abuse it too much.
Thanks Mike. Delta 15.5 GT? I was looking at that one to do the Kootenay River and Kootenay Lake trips. Seems to hold enough gear for 3-4 days
@lylewildeman5026 Yes that's the one. I had room for a 4 day trip on Kootenay Lake.
Thanks for sharing this! Looks like a beautiful trip! Kootenay lake is such a nice place.
Thanks for watching. It was a great trip.
I looked up the Moyie and found your nice video.
Oh the memories!!
Great trip....
Yes it was.
That's me 😊
Cool. Glad you found it.
So peaceful ❤ 🏴
I love your videos. Thanks for sharing
Thank you.
Nice video Mike. Glad you and Nigel are paddling together. I was hoping to see the tight river bend with log jam that I got pushed into with Tom J., in my canoe 10 years ago.
Thanks John.
Which section of the river has the log jam you mentioned? I am aware of a few on the river. Thanks
Looks like a great trip
Yes it was a good time.
Great views! Nice deer pictures too (and horses).
Thanks. The horses were on the US side.
@@mikemacneil4302 If I recall correctly, there is at least one point on the road that crosses over to the US side.
@@lawrencewright2816 Thanks for commenting. According to my GPS data the closest we came to the border was 80 metres.
Hi Mike! Great video. Watch out for the log jam on river left, just after the right bend. I ended up on the jam in my canoe a few years ago. I lost your contact information, send me a message please. Happy paddling buddy 😊.
Thank you John.
Looked like an awesome trip
Yes we had fun.
This is cool man
That's quite the drive!
Wonderful. Where did you put in & take out? I’m hoping to paddle from the Simpson River Trail, down beyond McLeod Meadows all the way to Nipika Mtn Resort (summer, 2023). Would like to go all the way to Canal Flats.
Thanks. We put in at what is called Kootenay Bridge near 33 km on the Kootenay River FSR. That is about 43 km downstream from Nipika Resort. We took out at 10 km on the Kootenay River FSR.
@@mikemacneil4302 Good to know, & thanks very much.
Hope you were checking for open water too 😉
Yes I was but it is still pretty scarce.
Great video! Love the rock cliffs and calm water
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
the highway noise is awful
Beautiful video Mike. I love that trip in the fall. 💜
Thanks John, it would have been nice to have you come along.
I was always hopeful we could do a similar trip with the rest of the group. I love moving water. Loving your videos Mike...
Have thought of that paddle. Nice to see it. Is it a plastic or fiberglass boat trip? Thanks
My boat is plastic. I didn't scrape bottom but there is a possibility that it could happen.
@@mikemacneil4302 Looked good, where did you put in?
At the bridge above the White River confluence near 33 km.
@@mikemacneil4302 Great to know! Will pencil the trip in. Cheers
Great exhilarating day. I'm still pumped about that trip!

What a great day, thanks for the filming and memories. (the fist dead thing is around the 3 minute mark)
Yes it was a great day. It was a bad season for wildlife falling through the ice.
Nice. Could you tell if that was deer or elk that had bedded down in the snow?
I don't know for sure but I think it was elk.
Beautiful view!
Settlers Bridge is where I saw my first cougar
Great trip! Some pretty neat Geology on that section.
