Your wrong on the year with 1942 open cab so soft top cab folding windscreen open door is newer, the cabbed & door cckw was upto 1943 or 1944 then came the soft top ie this one so this is a newer one

How did you authenticate your staff car? I recently acquired a 1940 Chevy Army Staff Car (80% certain it’s authentic from word of mouth, original paint code and certain option deletes) and would like to authenticate original purchase but have no idea how to do so.

I remember the drilling company I worked for in Manchester acquired one of those from an Army auction. Never used. As new. Straight from the army compound. All the original radio equipment, generators, bakelite handsets were still in it. The gearstick and pedals still had greaseproof paper on them. The company guys took an acetylene bottle and cut the back off to make a pickup. All the interior stuff was dumped. A great machine on site for moving water pumps, drill rods, drums of diese. The front wheels cut a wider track than the back which gave great grip in soft ground. Eventually it was wrecked by vandals on a golf course job. They rallied it around, destroyed the golf course and rolled the truck into a deep ravine. Bent the chassis. End of story. Pity, it was a great little workhorse. Lovely sweet petrol enginel They also had a Bedford RL ex army with a drill rig mounted on it. Fond, but very muddy, memories.

They used to use these in the sixtys for driver training passed my test on one in Yeovil

We had them as service trucks on opencast sites and motorway works, they were ok but heavy on steering and poor turning circle. We went onto TM’s after that, what a difference.

We had about 30 QL Bedfords with our Royal Engineer Regiment in Osnabruck, Germany in the early 1950s.
