Wiltshire Garden Wildlife
Великобритания
Добавлен 19 апр 2021
Videos of the wildlife visiting a Wiltshire garden. It started out as mostly hedgehogs, with occasional badgers and foxes too, but a recent increase in badger presence has reduced the hedgehog activity. Local cats sometimes feature if they are interacting with the wildlife (or just doing something silly ...).
Badger paddling pool
In the recent heat I had this huge tray out as a water source and to let wildlife cool down. At night it became not just a water source for the badgers but also a paddling pool, although some badgers were cautious about it (one was even frightened to get too close!) It took a day or so for some to get comfortable to walk in, but they were tempted by a few peanuts scattered into the water as encouragement.

Badgers mutual allomarking

I've read about this scent swapping behaviour between badgers that consider themselves equals but not caught it in on camera before. This involves rubbing the scent glands against each other and is distinct from the actions where one marks the other to show the pecking order.

Badger gets a headache running into fence during chase
Просмотров 3332 года назад
These two badgers size each other up and get involved in a chase. It's viewed from many angles showing the moves each make as they take the measure of each other. As they run out of the garden, the chasing badger hits the fence rather than getting under it. If you watch the footage from above of the collision with the fence, you can see a snout appear from under the fence. There wouldn't have b...

At least three adult badgers and the cub visiting the garden overnight

Many badger visits in one night three, possibly four, different adults back and forth plus the cub which is looking like it is coming to the end of its "fluffball" stage. It is certainly visibly growing bigger!

Adult badgers and a cub visiting the garden

A busy night of badgers visiting, including the new cub for the first time. This sequence includes the short clips of the first night in the garden of the new cub posted earlier this week (ruclips.net/video/bgNl30TkPVo/видео.html). Later the same night there was footage of one of the badgers having a good scratch (ruclips.net/video/8X4uViuhejg/видео.html).
First sighting of a new badger cub
Просмотров 1892 года назад
This footage was taken during the night that this badger cub first made an appearance in the garden. It is a little fluffball! The cub is crossing the garden at the end of its multiple visits that night. When time allows, I shall edit down the rest of the footage from the night and post it. UPDATE: The other footage is now available at ruclips.net/video/ChF4xtG-nK8/видео.html

The behaviour difference in the big one and the smaller one is interesting. The big one seems to be calm and slow, and the other hesitant and jittery.
Thank you , setting up on informal wildlife survey on outer cape Cod, hoping for foxes and coyotes. I loved seeing the animals in your garden!
thanksss
Hi there,Can the infra-red be turned off?
This has been a very big help. Got a pair of these, and have not been able to get any photos and have not been able to set it up right. Now I see where I have messed up and was not able to get any pictures of anything. Thank you for doing this video.
Hi. Loved the cat and the badger. I just got this for Christmas. I have it on low sensitivity but it takes videos all the time. Even left in an empty room it starts another video immediately after the lag time is up - continuously till the battery is done. Do you think it's faulty? Or have I done something stupid. Great if you can help .
Ah. I fixed it by resetting it and starting again.
Will this camera record audio? The user's manual says that audio can be turned on/off in the menu setup screen.
OKG THAT IS SO CUTE XOXO
Just bought one trailcam from K&F: 4G LTE solar wildlife camera. Do you know this one? Or anyone using it in UK? Thanks
Nice.
Sweet 💛💙
Great vid! We've just started out with this. So far, not many issues.
I guess he found an apple.
I hope you didn’t badger them to get this clip
Ho ho!
I think that it may have picked up an injury. There were sounds like a badger and a cat fighting just before this in our garden.
I hope he didn't get eaten.
Glad you left some fresh water out for him.
Great video.
Excellent 👍
Love the singing from neighbours
I confess I edited this quickly and didn't listen to the audio as I did it. I'll have to listen!
That was pretty wild, thanks for sharing! 👍
I prefer the badgers, cats kill a lot of wildlife.
Some attitude
Here before 1M views
Thank you for the expression of confidence!

@@WiltshireGardenWildlife The Algorithm has blessed you, I foresee many more viewers than usual. Great video also!
Are those special lights? That the animals don't mind
The footage is taken using infra-red lighting on each camera. They give out a faint red glow which some animals can see, but it doesn't disturb them. A couple of the cameras make a quiet click as they switch the infra-red LEDs which some animals can hear which can make them look towards the camera.
@@WiltshireGardenWildlife fantastic
The badgers: I just have to out run the badgers next to me...
Go Bindi! Lol 😆
Very interesting to watch the two species interact. These two might even become friends - I know badgers and coyotes sometimes travel and hunt together in the US.
Impressive captures. Long may these beautiful creatures reign.
Thank you for your kind words. I am lucky to have such fascinating animals to film!
Great footage! Love the up-close shots there at the beginning!
Thank you for your kind words. The close-ups at the entry point took a while to work out the best way to take but the effort was worth it!
@@WiltshireGardenWildlife Yes it was! Keep up the good work! Enjoying your channel!
THank you
This is a question I posted on one of your other videos re the Campark T45 - the manufacturer's instructions state you should 0nly use alkaline batteries but in your demonstration/review, you use rechargeables. Have you had any issues or are you OK with the rechargeables?
Sorry I hadn't repIied to your comment from a few days ago -- there has been a problem with spam comments and so I changed the settings so all comments have to be approved. Alas, I don't always have time to check them before they expire! The T45 will take high-capacity rechargeables without a problem. Lower capacity rechargeables can cause problems. I did a video last year on powering wildlife cameras which can be found at ruclips.net/video/RaJ_wj_vGdI/видео.html which you might find helpful.
Nice!
Surprised you have no comments - I found it an informative video but noticed at 3:12 it clearly says on the protective battery cover, 'Do not use rechargeables'. But you have done. Have you had any issues? TIA.

😂😂 very funny
I had a similar dilemma where there are two lactating females one with a bashed in rear leg and one with a broken front paw. the rear leg one lived in a distant sett and walked 3 legged through my garden foraging any spilt bird seed on the way. The mum with the front leg injury lived in a closer sett and i watched her cub play with her prior to her injury, she also visited my garden, I decided to put peanuts and water by the sett of front paw, worried about her cub. The first night the cub and mum fed and drank close to the sett, the next night back paw discovered the food and moved in to the sett, front paw and cub then moved on and I am now searching for them, that night no visits in the garden, the Third night I did not put peanuts near the sett and back paw returned to forage in my garden, The small intervention initially helped front paw and cub, but they were ousted by back paw, so my intervention may have not had the desired result. I do know that water supply is essential for the wounded and the cubs, especially when the weather (in the south) is so dry.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. There is always the chance that there will be an unintended outcome from doing something like feeding. It is important we learn from each others experiences so we can do the best to help our stripy friends!
What's for dinner?
Just a handful of peanuts each time. I don't want this badger to become reliant on humans for food but her behaviour has made it clear that she is hungrier than the other badgers that visit the garden!
Hi what batteries do you find work best? Would energizer 2000mah rechargeable ones be good?
I use 2400mAh rechargeables and have never had a problem with them. Lower capacity rechargeables can cause problems, mostly they just don't last very long. There are physical size issues with some makes of AA rechargeables, for example Duracell-branded AA rechargeables are physically just too large to fit in a T20. I did a video last year on powering wildlife cameras which can be found at ruclips.net/video/RaJ_wj_vGdI/видео.html which you might find helpful. It covers issues about the different batteries.
@@WiltshireGardenWildlife Ok thank you I'll have a watch later. I bought a T20 after watching this video and I'm really pleased with it :)
Which camera’s do you use and how many do you have around your garden
My other half would say I have too many! There are usually about a dozen in the garden, a number of which are at points that not many animals pass by, but which are really useful to understand animal behaviour. I also lend out cameras to neighbours but I don't usually post that footage. Most of my cameras are Campark T20 or equivalent (they are sold under a number of brands), two Campark T45, one Campark T90 and an Apeman H45. The Campark T20 is my favourite and I was lucky to get a good deal on them last year.
@@WiltshireGardenWildlife nice enough to go at then I have a t20 and t86 both Campari I have them in the local woods could you please tell how to get them on RUclips thanks 😞
Don't they get startled when the lights go on?
The lights are infra-red, so the animals shouldn't see much from them. The infra-red LEDs on many cameras do glow red but not very brightly. The camera that the badger is looking at in the preview pic is slightly faulty and makes a quiet clicking sound when it comes on. I think that might be what attracted the attention of this badger.
Lovely to see. Thanks for sharing.
Oh yes....that beautiful kitty looks very confused about it's visitors. Funny.
I can't thank you enough for these instructions. So helpful. I did set this up one day a while ago to see what was tearing up my compost only to find that it was nothing mysterious only my 2 spoiled chickens. I've lost the instructions and now I want to set this up for the bird feeder. I've had such trouble setting it up again until I found you. Thanks again.
Hudson is a very adept jumper
Not only an adept jumper, but also a chaser of badgers ... ruclips.net/video/XkQuYf7M5Is/видео.html
Glad its getting better by itself, thats good news
We had one that was injured front paw. Asked our local badger group for assistance. We don't feed our badgers, but they advised to support feed in the short term and monitor it. If the paw looked like it wasn't healing they would come and trap it and get it sorted and release back where they picked it up. Would suggest you contact your local badger group for their advice and help.
Thanks for the input. Since posting the footage, I've spoken with someone very experienced with badger welfare who gave similar advice. I've captured footage of two visits since, both of which show improvement. The first of these is at ruclips.net/video/1j1IXLGSyO0/видео.html and I'll post the second when I have time.
It could have got into a fight or been glanced by a car maybe, you could try contacting a badger rescue place for any advice.
The closest rescue folk are fairly overwhelmed and so I wouldn't want to take up their time with something that might sort itself out if the problem is just bruising from a fight. Will keep watching carefully.
It would of been nice if you did a closeup of what you were doing, couldn’t see anything on the screen.
Thanks for pointing that out -- it's a useful lesson for me to learn. There is a set of close-up shots of menu options in one of my other videos looking at camera setup that might be useful ruclips.net/video/wAmok044Lfk/видео.html
is that your new camera? What model is it?
The latest acquisition is a Campark T90 which has the label "WGW1". I don't think the video quality is as good as the output from the T20s, which is what most of the other cameras are
