CAL GREATS: Helen Wills
Helen Wills was one of the greatest female athletes of the late 1920s and 30s, and is still today considered one of the greatest women’s tennis players of all time. A Cal alum, Queen Helen was an indomitable Wimbledon and Olympic champion who won 31 Grand Slam titles and from 1927-1933 won 180 consecutive matches. Her poise on the court nicknamed her “Little Miss Poker Face,” her white visor inspired an immediate trend, and her beauty won her the admiration of many, including Charlie Chaplin.
