Did you give up making bee videos. I miss your content.
What happened? Your beekeeping channel is great. Are you okay?
Did you stop beekeeping? I really enjoyed your videos and watching your journey…
Where'd you go?
As expensive as queens are and how many huge producers like brushy mountain and walter T kelley are closed forever, a beekeeper like you could easily pull a few hundred dollars a week most of the summer mailing out your queens for sale off an Ebay biz..
Under supering is what I do. I only do singles anymore and cured honey towards the top works best for me. They will produce you 100+lb if you are in a good area.
You still around? Hope the bees are good.
There should be more feed, they are on the brink of starvation. They cannot be expected to build up when so low on stores.
Thank you so much for sharing this and thank you for not shutting the recorder off when things got a little crazy. We experience the same thing with some of our hives. I can't believe how calm you were.
I have a single deep box colony that is weak.. My supplier suggested to consolidate the hive into a 5 frame nuc box for the winter. I must of missed seeing a queen cell 8 days ago and found it today. There is some brood but not much. I did see the queen 8 days ago. It's been a crazy weather pattern this year. Very cool June, severe drought started mid-July with high heat, queen not laying much during drought, and now 75 degree weather in Nov. Should I put the frame with the queen cell in a nuc with frames of bees and honey? And put the current queen into another nuc? I'm really confused as to what to do now. I was going to initially combine the hive with another one and forfeit the queen but now this. Your suggestion would be appreciated. I never overwintered a nuc.
Thought I had watched and enjoyed all your videos but RUclips fed me this one today Missed seeing you this season, hope and pray all is well! Thanks Matt
impressive build up
What part of the country are you in? Cold climate?
Smoke till the bees go down, you can hear when you need to stop smoking them. Loft the smoke, find the wind direction and smoke from up wind letting the smoke drift toward the hive. It’s hard to over smoke if you just listen to them.
Where you at? Hope all is well.
Question…I’ve never merged a hive like this before but I was wondering since you put that paper down all of bees in the top boxes are stuck in there and can’t get out. Is that the point of doing this? If so how long are you supposed to leave them in there before you remove that paper? Or will they eat away at the paper? Or was there an upper entrance that we can’t see? Thanks in advance 😊
My wife put Formic Pro in both of our fives for the first time. 3 weeks later, both queens are gone & no eggs.
My Carni looks like her
How’s it going? No videos this year?? Hope you are still getting it done.
Not a fan swarm cells rule!
If you don’t show the viewers the frames up close, how are we supposed to understand your comments
Nice video, you mentioned only single brood chambers this year, and mentioned you don’t want to chase them out of a tree from swarming. I’m guessing having a double brood box enhances the chances of a swarm?
Just curious as to why no Queen excluder on the honey supers?
Rewatching your videos going to single brood chamber this year in central NH, hope all is well!!👍
Your hive boxes are beautiful. Did you treat them with anything? Are they wax dipped?
How come you don’t remove feeder but you. Putting honey super? I always remove feeder as soon as they spring hits and I see them bringing nectar
I've been enjoying the spring honey I picked up from the farmers market. It's soooo sweet, and it tastes like spring!
That’s awesome. Thank you and I am glad you enjoyed it. It’s going to feel like spring this week. Haha
What state are you in ??. I think I would start pouring the syrup to them to get the stores built up with all those bees . Also keep a close eye on them . Do a mite check and pop them before winter if you have not already. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I always under super because I think it makes the bees think more that they are empty of stores so they make more an more honey the more they think they are low on stores . Also I like fat honey combs because you are not lost anything if you cut caps with knife then you get wax if you plan to make things with wax but that is up to you oh also I only pull full supers boxes that way I know the honey is dry . Maybe this will help. Thanks good video .
I was wondering if you had an opinion about upper honey super entrance to allow the foragers direct access to the comb. I'm wondering if it benefits the harvest and also wonder if it promotes an increased risk for robbing.
The queen cup on your second and third frames you pulled out totally blows the claim that the bees don't put nectar or pollen in the queen cups.
Are you using plastic foundations?
Could be brood disease …. 🤔🤔🤔 Did they make it?
I find the gloves a hinderence.
Proper use of the smoker would prevent bee kill
What do you mean about the feeding?
When you said” I go to feed the majority will be there honey. “ Do you overwinter just with a single deep or do you leave a super on? How much feed do you think it will take them to fill that deep? I use 1 gallon paint cans turned upside down directly over brood chamber.
Excellent series thanks 👍, hope to watch again this long.…cold….winter…if we are lucky 😊
What are you doing with your queen excluder ? Are you leaving it on or removing it ?
How are the other colonies? I have 9, pulled out apivar this week and checked a few frames. Only found brood in 3 colonies (Dartmouth MA, not far from you).
All my hives still have a lot of brood and some had almost full frames. One of my mentor hives got over feed and didn’t leave much room for the queen? Not sure if that’s what’s going on with your hives or they just stopped due to the Apivar. How was there cluster size and did you see the queen?
@@mrtsbees4454 did not see any queens in the colonies without brood (only checked a few frames). Cluster sizes are good for the most part. I interpret it as the queens are done for the season.
There was more brood in there than I thought there would be. Those must true winter bees. LOL
I have to say this might be the latest I have done a inspection and yes there is a lot of capped brood but then again who know when they really do stop?
I tried the same method of honey removal and the capped honey doesn't go down unless I scratch it. Too bad you didn't have time I know robbers can be rough. THanks for the videos this year. With a new queen in there they should go gang-buster next year.
My first mistake was not cutting them down to 2 supers at the end of August but yes it’s not perfect but they do move some down. The rest will have to be put out for open feeding or saved for spring frame swap out. Good luck with your girls this winter.
Sounds like an impact gun….you must be building something…very noisy….I’ve listened to it for fifteen minutes….
Sorry about the sound but you are the only person who is having that problem.
What is that continuous noise after the video….lol….goes on for about ten minutes….it’s like your in a video game….
not sure what it is but I wish I was in a video game. Thank you for watching.
Finished feeding today. Hive cozies and insulated top covers go on tomorrow….🐝🐝 still bringing in Cosmos pollen.
Sounds like you have the girls ready for winter.
@@mrtsbees4454 47° today… first frost last night….a month late for the Western Catskills
@@billchriswell2925 we still have some Aster going and being so close to the ocean our temps are still in the 60 and 50.
Great videos, thank you!
Thank you for watching.
I hope they overwinter and come out next spring ready to work!
Let’s hope. It will 🐝 nice to get some time off.
Mr T, good luck with those girls! Hopefully they come out of winter bursting at the seams. I’ve enjoyed your videos this past season!
I have done all I can do. Fingers crossed. I hope the same for your hives this winter. Thank you for watching.
Where are you located?
Falmouth Massachusetts.
Good luck with that process….It’s never worked for me….I would have removed the excluder…put the best full medium frame box above the deep….and fed syrup till it gets too cold….I’m all through feeding-also mountain camp….Formic pro treatment….waiting on spring…
