James Newton Howards's score is all that really holds this scene together. The cringe dialogue, exaggeration through the voice calling every freaking second of the countdown, the doors shutting just in time, everything.

And I see that no one noticed just who is right behind Prim, making sure that she is Safe and Sound but Gale himself; the last person through the blast doors.

You know, the problem I have with the design of the stairwells in District 13 is that they're one giant tube. One good bunker bomb could gut an entire area if it chanced to hit one of the giant stairwells. Better to have the levels more broken up in a way that would act as a baffle to absorb both the bomb and any shock wave it produces. Drives me nuts that, for a district devoted to defense, they would overlook that one detail.

@@joewhitehead3 no its not, the Hunger Games movies have several distinctive pieces of music played at certain points to elicit a specific response from the audience. Rue's Theme, the Capitol National Anthem, and the Hanging Tree are all examples. Rue's Theme is supposed to make us think about, well, Rue, and make us feel sad and emotional because of her death. Playing it in this scenario makes us more anxious to see Katniss find Primrose so that she doesn't also die.

The poor camera man got locked out
Peeta’s fear, staring off-screen as Caesar urges him to continue. I can only imagine what the room Peeta is in looks like. He might be watching the footage, he might see Katniss, maybe the severe hijacking has already started, but what if there was someone behind that camera with a torture device or something?
Why didn't district 13 use any surface to air missiles to shoot the capitol bombers out of the sky before they could strike? Surely district 13 being a military district they would have had some sort of anti aircraft defence systems.
They didn't want the capitol air fleet to see where the base is located or what updated weapons they have since the war.
They said it in the movie. Like the comment above, they did not want to reveal their capabilities. They believed it would’ve been better to wait out the attack than give the Capitol a chance at counterattacking since they’d know all their defense systems.
@@subzero8344 SAMs wouldn't have revealed much of the location of district 13 especially if SAM batteries are spread out also SAM missiles have ranges of 10s to 100s of kilometres so they could have easily shot down any incoming bomber before they could have reached district 13.
@@smaviation9171 Did you not read? It's not about the location. Snow already knew where district 13 located. The thing he didn't know about was their capabilities. He didn't think district 13 could build up an entire military with offensive and defensive capabilities that could threaten Snow's reign. The point of hiding the weaponry was to make sure Snow didn't know what capabilities they had so they could surprise attack the capitol or defend against capitol bombers effectively since the bombers wouldn't know District 13's updated capabilities since it was destroyed a long time ago.

This scene actually does scare me. Because of the bombings and the terrified people screaming every time the bombs are dropped. It also shows me what people back in Europe during the Second World War went through when they lived in bomb shelters.
