My favorite fun fact about this movie isn't that Eddie Egan really used to dress up as Santa during Christman when chasing perps, or that the car chase involved real accidents, or that Friedkin fired a gun on set, but that the founder of the fast food chain Chicken on the Run renamed his restaurants "Popeyes" after Gene Hackman's character. Yes, that Popeyes restaurant...

How good was this film. The car case was amazing. The walking 'chase' between Hackman and Rey was amazing. Just an absolute classic. Hackman, one of the greatest.

The French Connection II is a masterpiece. Never ages. A classic film and Gene Hackman should have received another Oscar for his performance as Popeye Doyle.

French Connection II is better than the original. The original just has people walking around mostly and is a bit dull. This has more action.

Been watching Carol Burnett show on Amazon Prime & at beginning of every episode, she introduces Ernie Anderson in the audience. Got me curious about him cause I had no idea who he was. I look him up & lo & behold, not only is he Paul Thomas Anderson's father but he was also the voice on TV from my childhood!!

Wait! Correct me if I'm wrong, but there was a sequel to this movie, portraying him, when goes to Marseille and is taken hostage by the drug lords (who were French/Corsican mob at the time) - and turn him into a junkie! This was actually based on a true story, that was filmed in the times when Carmine Galante hit the streets and took over the "connection" from the French and delivered it to the Bonanno's. Am I right?? I remember the scene when they kept him in this "dungeon" - chained to a bed, and were giving him smack day after day! It was a WAS FUCKING MORBID, VICIOUS movie!

Probably the best narcotics story ever told. read the book, it's a true story, the film takes few liberties and exaggerates some things., but it's still superb. the true story is amazing, anyone who has ever worked in law enforcement will be glued to the book and will tell you, this case was policing and investigation in its purest form. non of the gizmos available today, just pure detective work. it all came, as in the film, purely by chance, Elgar notices some players splashing the cash in a nightclub and his detective instincts take over... brilliant.

The older I get the more I like this film , a gang who should had been dead a long time ago , now in a new century now older , and running out of space to hide. Their own gang member is head of the posse after them. To see the honor an bravery between these characters and the deadly choice they make at the end for a film made in what 69' was so ultra violent many Critics paned it when it came out an was years before the uncut version was available .
