I think what people miss in this scene is that Martin didn't break. He was absolutely devastated, understandably so, but in the end he knew what Christof was doing and chose not to do the devil's work, "because no one really wants to die." And that's why he's underrated imo

That’s what makes Johan and these people terrifying. They can find out things about you, things no one knows like it’s supernatural for them to know and use it against you. You could also look at how Nazi detectives work to arrest people, they can figure out thing by just one small detail and use it to kill anyone.
