As a dilettante who wanders from the original, mortal Jesus, Swedenborg, Nietzsche, existentialism, Jung -- just discovered Heidegger, Stoicism, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Hegel. Thomas Jefferson -- I can relate strongly to every single point you made, Having been a child prodigy -- musician, mathematics, languages -- I see now how my highly educated, well-meaning, but unempathetic, old school parents harmed me by trying in their own way to help me -- perfect grammar was always spoken in the house, there were hundreds of serious books to read -- I started reading seriously around 8-- but I was frogmarched into law school at 21 -- once I had a high lottery number and would not be drafted. I really should have stood up to my parents. I realize now they did a lot of bluffing to intimidate me. Hated every second of law school. Skipped a third of my classes, still made top third of class at Top Ten nationally ranked law school. Admitted to bar at 25. thought I was too weird, unemployable. Finally got a job at legal aid and discovered poverty was mostly a matter of choice and not an alternative lifestyle worthy of respect. I had been an academic jock all my life, my social skills needed help, and all I wanted was a year off of the academic treadmill. Tend bar, Travel (grew up overseas -- fluent French and Spanish. Plus Swedish, Afrikaans, German, and the loathsome Latin., all of which I have thankfully forgotten.) Architecture was my other interest, but because of Vietnam I effectively had to choose between law and architecture at age 16. I made the smaller error, but no doubt had less fun. That could be said of just about anyone in law school in the early 70s. HINT: Both poor choices, poorly compensated waste of whatever talent you do have. Unless you fit the "lawyer" or "architect" niche perfectly. There are certain characteristics that are invaluable that not one lawyer in 10 possesses. You will find out at the dinner table from lawyer parents -- if you're lucky -- before you go off to climb a Sisyphean mountainside. 9 out of 10 lawyers nowadays do not want their kids to become lawyers. In law school I was surrounded by other smart kids who did not want to go to grad school and who soon discovered that law was grueling, a three-year boot camp designed to make us think "like lawyers" -- in ways that were neither natural to our animal instincts nor fit for its ostensible purposes. Law, like church, is mostly ritual and ceremony. it has evolved over the millennia as a device to amaze and exploit the masses, keep them in line out of FEAR. Above all, as soon as you can, find out who YOU REALLY ARE. Must break bonds with parents in order to bond with them as an adult years later. The happiest people, said Nietzsche, were those who found something that they liked doing and could do easily -- it just came naturally. Like my roaming fingers on a keyboard that don't even need instructions from my brain. Or perhaps brain/fingers just know what to play after decades of bluesy improvisation. Does the above make any sense to anyone? Find what makes you -- YOU -- and head down that path until and unless you get a better idea. Learn enough to make sound decisions, and don't let anyone else make those decisions for you. YOU are the captain of the ship rolling above the wavs

At 58 years old, here are seven pieces of advice I would give to people who are younger than me: 1/ Everyone has their own way of doing things. Find like-minded compatriots 2/ Exercise several days a week. And don’t complain about it. 3/ Do not measure yourself by other peoples metrics. Tune in to your own. 4/ Be comfortable living through a full range of emotions. Everything is cyclical. 5/ Having lots of money is not what it’s cracked up to be. The best things in life are free. 6/ If your surroundings make you unhappy, change them. Don’t doom yourself to functional ennui 7/ Give us much love to others as you expect to get. If there is a differential, be prepared to make changes.
I'm glad someone is talking about this very important and underrated topic, thank you for your words of encouragement 💕
Most valuable wisdom. Thank you for sharing it.

It is always imperative to choose what is RIGHT.
Some might say spending too much time worrying about toxic people is unnecessary, but trust me, it makes a big difference. I found my peace after letting go of a few 'friends,' and my mental health is much better for it
You dumped the Liberals?
I am 77 and love living alone. No one bothers me and I can do what I want without accommodating anyone else. The internet brings the world to me. I have outside interests, friends and activities that round out my life. I alone determine my schedule and what I want to do. Living alone is what you make it.
There is a lot of different and good advice.
To bad I didn't know this before I got old. .
Where do you get these photos??
I’m 81 and didnt make most of those mistakes and glad
Really powerful Omega 3, in the morning Chia seeds and oat flour with rice milk fixed my intestines and I no longer have problems, you're right! 💕
Fair comments but remember not everyone bothers about joining clubs or having a few good friends, a percentage of people are simply happy with their own company and have no desire for making friends, also if they have a family that's usually sufficient, but again everyone to their own we are all different.🤔
Not only physical excersise but mental. Hobbies or just domestic tasks which represent inventive challenges are not only mental but afective highly rewarding.
