My pc is a custom built windows pc as well. I bought a firewire card off of Amazon and installed it in the computer. As long as you have an open port on your motherboard you should be able to do the same. If not, you could always consider getting an older Sony Vaio laptop or older Mac with a firewire port for capturing your video.

@@thedadtris Brief research on social media led me to some people saying it will work with Windows, others saying it won't. I'm gonna go with the people who says it works and pickup a Firewire card for my PC.

@MissingNo2k let me know how it goes. I have camcorders and accessories available for sale in my ebay store if you need anything. I've been doing this for over 20 years, trust me you'll be good with the card in the pc. You'll just need some software to capture with. Adobe, sony movie studio, pinnacle, there are numerous others.

But the problem is that i bot in Japan , so the option and every think r in Japanese .I will never sale it for 100 or thinks like that , because it cost me at that time 3000 . @@thedadtris But my problem with this camera is that , i have a lot of tapes what i record in Japan from when i was young , and i want to transfer them in my new PC . But my new PC don't have fire wire port but just USB . Yesterday i bot a Fire Wire cable to USB , but the computer did not understand my camera plug in. So this is how i also find your video . Because i search how to connect my Old camera with those idiotic new laptops who don't have the fire link .

@@icsecrets172 Ah I understand. I have a custom built desktop pc that I installed a firewire card in. You could also consider buying an old Sony Vaio laptop that has firewire and use that to capture your tapes. I do this as well sometimes. I use and external hard drive with the Sony Laptop and capture the video to that.

Awesome, it sucks that fx1's are notorious for the tape compartment failing. I've had 3 or 4 and they've all been bad in some way.

Id aim to get some firewire/solid state addon sometime as i know the tape mechanism is the weak point, still love the camera.

@@scottesplin4426 Exactly, I have a couple focus enhancement recorders (one hd, and the other compact flash) for that very reason...they are super cool. But yea the FX1 is a rad camera.

I personally use adobe premier via firewire to capture. Not saying that's the best way but it's a very good way of doing it. I'll check out my export settings and let you know. What camera, computer and software are you using?

@@thedadtris i am using vx2100e, datavideo dn60, premier pro most of the time. But it always looks pixelated especially when exported for 25fps. I kinda wondering about my timeline and export settings.

What are you trying to clean? Tape compartment, lens....anything specific?

lol just everything. Given that these are old and tend to be grimey, I figured you guys might have some good tips for getting them close to a “like new” state. I just snagged a pd150 for a great price but it’s all around kinda dirty. Idk where to start besides dunking the whole thing in alcohol 😅

What are you recording and what camcorder do you have? 1) If you're recording skateboarding or some sort of action sport, a lot of people go with the clear click, but it doesn't support firewire...so you're capturing with A/V and that isn't a 1:1 of what the camcorder is seeing (assuming the camcorder has a firewire port). The reason people go with this option is because (I'm pretty sure) it's still the lowest price capture device on the market, for a descent one. Also it's relatively small so attaching it to the camcorder isn't that much of a pain. 2) The immersion powerplay is a good device as well. It carries about all of the same things I mentioned above, however it's smaller (which is nice). I'm not sure what the cost of it is currently and they were having problems keeping it in stock in the past. 3) The most expensive and the best ones are the ones that record via firewire (Sony and Firestore make them). These are very tough to find new, so most of the time people are getting a used one off ebay. They vary in size, generally more expensive for the smaller ones. Some also record to compact flash cards, some record to internal hard drives. 4) I've also recently seen some youtube videos of people using their phone. I'm not sure about this method. If it works it would capture in the same quality/concept as the first two options I mentioned.

@@thedadtris Only 1 power adapter and both have the XLR Mic piece. I figured they were a good deal gauging the price Ya'll got this one for. I just heard the PD100 is so much better in low light and has built in ND filters as well.

@@grayhudsonn oh yeah the pd100 is definitely better the pdx10 sensor is also more zoomed in u literally cant get vignette with a fisheye and the pd100 looks better from a design point too.

Yo, thanks dude I appreciate the comment. Sick on the VX2000! Where did you get it? As far as batteries: You need to use a Sony L-Series battery or an L-Series battery made by a 3rd party company. In my opinion Kastar makes a really good 3rd party battery that will work with the VX. You can get them on amazon. @@thedadtris I picked it up from eBay couldn’t resist the price. Unfortunately it only came with the power cable and one 330 battery. Sick dude appreciate that! Yea from what I've seen the clearclicks are good. Are you planning on capturing tapes though? The tape deck on your 2000 is functioning properly, right? I would suggest capturing tapes man. I know it's an extra step, time and some more cost involved, but it's cool and it adds that authentic feel...ya know. Just a suggestion.

@@thedadtris its to convert the 480i resolution to 480p so that it playsback smoother and without scanline artifacts on modern tv’s as far as I understand.

Yea San Fernando and Saugus both have great swap meets. As far as being a vendor, I'm not sure since I've never done that. Do you sell specific items?

@@recordealer1 No actually the chargers are quite easy to come across. The charger that the vx2000 uses is the same one Sony used on a lot of their camcorders. There are a few different model numbers of the power supply but they are all the same: AC-L10C and AC-L10B.

@@kooziekami Gotcha and don't worry about it, I just want to make sure I understand so I can try to answer as best as possible. That's a good question. I know that certain Sony camcorders back in the day literally had a feature called USB Streaming. I don't believe the VX2000 had this feature built into it, however I'm wondering if there are work arounds in modern day. I haven't tried this but maybe using a composite to hdmi converter? I would have to think there are work arounds. Maybe something like plugging the camcorder into the pc via firewire, opening software that would capture video (vegas, movie studio, adobe), then using something like OBS to capture that window and place into a livestream. Sorry dude, I haven't tried this. If you find out let me know, and I'll keep thinking as well.

I don't think I'll every be able to justify the price of one, but yea dude it would be the peak setup for sure.

Thanks I appreciate that! Where will you be staying at? The location might determine which swap meet I would suggest. San Fernanado is good on Saturday and Sunday. I wouldn't recommend one day over the other. Saugus has a really cool swap meet on Sunday. But again, it kind of depends on where you're staying to see which ones are the closest to you.

@@thedadtris thanks for your recommendations. I'll be in Burbank and know the San Fernando valley pretty well since I was born and raised there. I actually use to sell computers at the San Fernando swap meet back in the late 90s as a teenager with my uncle and haven't been there since. So I'm kinda excited to go hunting for some goodies.

@TrizzyTrunk Yea I have quite a few. They are not 3ccd cams. Just basic minidv cams. They are all for sale on my ebay store. There is a link to my store in the video description. amjauction. If you see anything you might like let me know I'll do my best to give you a good deal.

Not bad, I'm pretty sure that's right in the middle(ish) for those numbers. I would have to look back and see what Sony indicates as their typical longevity in terms of hours. If memory serves me right, Sony estimated their cameras around 1200hrs before servicing "generally" needed done. This also doesn't mean that all camcorders will cease to function correctly. It was just a guidance for people, so they knew that when they hit around those numbers it might be a good time to send it in for servicing. Also remember that this also "generally" pertained to the tape deck. The hours didn't really have much relevance to the camcorder powering up and all other functions working. With a lot of people using digital recorders these days, the hours meter might be irrelevant to them.

I would say that's a great deal (if the seller is being truthful)! Lot's of sellers I've came across aren't, that's part of the reason I was doing these videos. It's getting harder and harder to find VX's with light usage. Would you mind sending me a link for it? I will check sold listings as well and see if I can find it.

Dude me too! I would see VX's in skate videos all the time, but when I saw Bam using the VX2000 in cky2k I fell in love with it. It looked like a piece of art. I didn't have the money to afford one back in the early 2000's, I shot a large percentage of my footage on a TRV520 (Digital8). In like 2005 I took out a credit card and I was convinced I was going to buy one, but I ended up building a mini ramp with the money instead, lol. The ramp ended up being wayyy more worth it, although it was a huge headache and expense living in Ohio and the shitty weather conditions. I wish I could do more videos like this, but it's getting harder to find VX's on ebay/craigslist/mercari (at a good price) The people selling the ones that they were finding in storage units were the best.
