My Wife, Maita, and I, have been married for 19 years, most of it in the USA. We decided to return to her homeland last year. We found a house and land out in the country, close to the Taal Lake and Volcano. We have lived through Typhoons, volcano eruptions, and now a Pandemic, but our time here has been mostly great. So, this vlog is mostly about our experiences here, Life here in the Philippine Islands.
New Stuff from the Rocking Chair at Casa De Gecko.
I was ready to make this video when the Skies turned real dark. Yep the rain stated falling. It lasted about 45 minutes and I could do this vid. A lot of new stuff is going on here, getting rid of the rusted stuff, new plants, etc. Therain isn't helping with the new projects, but they bring in the cool winds. We had some good rains today, just as we were having workers repairing our wall. It was a very cool day and I was sittting in my rocker, enjoying the day. We had our friends, Micheal and Venus Johnson visited us for the weekend. We took them to the Tap Station Pub at the Twin Lakes shopping Center on Taal Lake. We went to the Tap Station Pub at the twin Lakes Shopping Center this afternoon. It was very foggy and little could be seen of the Lake and Volcano. The Pub has a variety of International and Local craft beers. They also have a variety of foods to goalong with the beers. We had the Cheese Lumpia and Wings, both very good. I like the driveway with paving bricks, and used stone for other areas with the landscaping... The steel rails with the fence really show the rust factor you have to deal with... At least you're not worrying about losing your beach and wall like 62 to Freedom is dealing with! The garden is literally blossoming right in front of your eyes... Anyway, enjoy your weekend you two... Here in Dubai doing the same... A little bbq, swimming, and enjoying the cooler weather... Life is good... 🙏🙏🙏 👍😎👍

Here in Chicago we are needing some rain. We haven’t had one in a few weeks.
Looks good, the yard... So the rust is from salt in the air or more the rainforest type climate? I know that directly on the beach, it can wreak havoc, but was kinda hoping away from the coast inland, it'd be less an issue... Good to be aware and take precautions in any case... This is where regular maintenance comes into play, I think... Even a brand new house requires that from my experience... Anyway... Enjoy the rest of your week, you two! 🙏🙏🙏 👍😎👍
From what I have heard, rust is a problem everywhere. It may be a bigger problem on the coast, but it is a big problem all over the islands. I think you need to set aside some money for those home improvements. That includes for a car if you plan on gettting one. Tires don't last long on these roads. You have a great week and stay cool in that heat.

I am not being scammed. My wife and I have been married for 25 yrs, about 13 yrs in the USA. She worked while we were in the USA and contributed to our income. When we moved back to the PI, my wife wanted to start a business, which she did and now owns a Liquor store in Alfonso. She works hard to clean the house, cook for me and takes care of the Dogs too. I took my time to find the right woman for me, and I did. Thanks for watching.

That’s a cool house made out of the containers, but man, if they don’t insulate super well, they’re going to cook inside those containers. I think I would want a roof above the containers to block the sun and have air circulating around the containers in the shade. It would be nice to have a big rooftop like they have over the basketball courts over there and have a house made out of containers under that roof. All built out of real heavy steel to withstand the tropical storms.
I am going to follow along with the build. Maybe they will build a roof. We are in the western part of the Philippines and typhoons have to cross a mountain range before they get to us, so the winds aren't too bad for us. We had considered building a container house, but we found this house and it was about 80% completed when we bought it. We have been very happy with it and Love our yard. This area is much cooler and we usually don't have to use the AC. Thanks for your comment and watching. I'll keep giving updates and new places around this area.

Yes, I am trying to save up for a DJI Pocker 3 camera. I also want a DJI Drone and cn make even more interesting vids. We are on a budget now so have to put things on a wish list.

That's a really nice neighbourhood! Lots of different styles of houses... The one under construction does look very American... The container homes offer quicker finishes maybe... Not sure on total cost though, lots of expenses to finish them out properly... Is interesting for me as a workshop building, however, if not to live in... Hi Barry, it is an in thing now in Europe, They convert containers both 20ft and 40ft into modern homes. Some of them look fantastic and they are cheap to buy.
We had thought about container homes before we found our home.
@@barryinthepi390 I would say container homes are more for the younger generation Barry. Actually when I was serving in the British army in Germany in the early 80s my office was in a container. So even in those days containers were being used as offices and even as rooms at schools.

You got yourself a nice garden there Barry 👍 Maybe a small tip from my side. I notice that the bottom of your walls are dirty. That is when the rain falls on the soil/grass and then splashes it on the wall. If you lay 6 -8 inch wide gravel all along the base of the wall that will stop the rain from splashing the soil/dirt on your wall . I done it myself and it works 😜
Yeah, we have a lot of small things that we keep needing to do. We are on a budget now, so we try to do small things that doesn't break our budget. It seems like we have big things that come up and we just have to set other thing back. But we are getting there. We have plans to get solar to cut our electric bills, which are high. Our land is 1000 sq. meters and I'm glad that we live in a safe area and we have five dogs that keep it that way. Our dogs are friendly dogs, they just like to bark at people.

Yes, life here is different but it is easy to adapt to life here. People are so friendly and welcoming here. There is very little gun violence here. I feel safe here. Since I am so old, people always want to help. The climate is really nice. I am enjoying my retirement life here. When you all come here, please come for a visit. We will show y'all around.
