HAPPY ACCIDENTS!!!!!!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks this is an excellent demonstration of a technique I am going to try.
happy accident ❤
thanks ..useful mate
Loved the experiment using screen print drawing ... I assume the drawing was on plastic & not paper???
I successfully used mixed solution 3 days after water was added ... and painted paper with the water I washed my foam brushes in which created a light blue cyanotype result. Additionally I applied solution, added design & exposed without drying coating first. It's such a fun printmaking medium to play with ❤
What is used for emulsion, please? Thank you for these 3 videos. I learned quite a lot!
the RPC answers; If I remember correctly Ruth uses household emulsion, here in the UK we use this to paint our interior walls.
Thank you so much for all the insight and information. This video was very helpful to me, as I am a beginner and looking forward to increasing my creativity through cyanotype!
Having viewed the fully completed (press printed) result, it might have been an idea to initially print without scribbly background first. Perhaps following this, a type of background could be added. Regardless, your hand print effort -- with it being quite a larger sized work and unsuitable for hand print-- proved the better suited printing press. Great work though, epic patients used here.
In regards to presenter's comment that the 'stylus' has tendency to jump..a smaller diameter head of crusted industrial diamond burrs could be an answer. These are set on smaller diameter shank (perhaps a smaller collet can be utilised if Dremel is to be used). Otherwise, handpieces from other makers can be used NSK, Kavo, Foredom which are brands which supply variable speed high/low revs and inverted cone shaped diamond tips. Slow speed is less likely to melt surface with heat of turning tip(s). Also other flex shaft tools can be utilised.
Awesome thank you for sharing! Very inspiring.
Gorgeous piece and thanks for sharing the process. What emulsion do you use? I am only familiar with with the word for screen printing. Thanks
I have been wondering if I can use a Dremel on plexiglass....now I think it will work!! Thanks for your detailed video
Love this process. Is there a reason you didn't just use a copy and a highlighter to note lines that you wanted to trace with PVA?
Hi there yes, when inking there may be a possibility of the ink from the markers transferring to the print itself, this can sometimes happen with graphite to I would suggest testing if this is the way you wish to work.
What happened to the geometric multilevel from part 1??
By the way, thanks for the great films.
...I think it's spelled collagraph as in paper collage. I only know 'cos this is a mistake I made for a long time.
*I've realized that I found a possible solution to my problem of lining up the images... by getting a machine to engrave my designs into drypoint plastic. Yesterday I tried for the first time engraving inredibly complex designs I made into the face of the plastic... on my CRICUT plotter. OMG it works and looks otherwise pretty much as if I would've done it by hand (except accurate). The design was so complex that it took the plotter more than an hour to do it. But it looks stunning and I almost don't want to ink it up.
Yeas Zachar thats a great idea, I have never used a cricut plotter But I shall look into this.
The problem I have this method is the fact that where you are looking at the plate changes where the line underneath appears. The thicker the plastic, the harder it is to line up exactly the same if you are sitting a different position on a new session. But then again, no one else seems to mention this so I suppose other people find it easy to stay in the same position and remain completely still while doing the engraving. Damn you to death ADHD! I will never remain still enough to get good at this!!
The plastic we use is only 1 mm thick so there is no great problem with the distortion, sorry for the delay with the reply.
@@nigelmorris8074 ...I've started using thin plastic as well Thanks for the comment
Your work so unique! Thank you for sharing
I print intaglio pieces by hand without a press (no access to one). I just pulled a piece 27inx50in (69cmx127cm) by hand. paper slippage is a huge issue. I avoid it with either a few layers of news print paper over top the print paper. and on even larger pieces I have a felt blanket I put over it. this reduces the likely hood of slippage tremendously and allows you to use a larger baren. Ive even used a pinroller over newsprint and felt stacked on the print. loved the video!
Always enjoy coming back to your videos, informative and very well executed. And beautiful work. The process of printmaking is such a wonderful journey.
Andrea thank you for your lovely comment. It may be of interest to some reading this that there are more videos available to view on my own RUclips channel now. ruclips.net/user/nmarty thanks Nigel
Fantastic video. Thank you so much for sharing this cool technique. Where did you buy the General SOL transfer paper. It is not avail in the US, from what I can tell, but a friend is traveling to the UK this week, and I would love to have her pick some up for me, assuming it’s widely avail there? If not, what, please, is the name of the second type of transfer paper you started to say works very well? Also, would you consider adding links below to or just listing names of all materials used, such as brand of paint + colors used? Thanks again 🙏
Hi Christina, The transfer paper is made by Saral and you can purchase this in the States from Dick Blick; www.dickblick.com/products/saral-wax-free-transfer-paper/ Here in the UK I buy this online so you may as well order from a US supplier. The other transfer paper I use is Japanese but we purchase this from; handprinted.co.uk/collections/relief-sundries/products/red-japanese-carbon-paper. I hope this helps.
@@TheRegionalPrintCentre Wow! Thank you SO much for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated. I love your videos, and agree with the other viewers: please keep them coming! 🙏🙏
Wow I love the piece at the end!! Great and informative video also, thank you
"It made sense to me". Pure artist intent. So beautifully communicated verbally and visually.
Interesting technique I might like to try. Thanks for showing it.
Thank you for this wonderful educational video. I’m new today and look forward to visiting often with my supplies at hand. Thank you, 👏♈️
Lovely, and great demo. Thank you!
Very nice demo. Thanks for doing this!
Very much appreciated. Great technique, I will be trying this. Thank you.
Thanks, this looks great
Good to see how each one worked (or didn't) and the final one. Great print. Thank you.
Great to see, wonderful info and plate! Thank you
Kathy thank you for your encouragement
Worth all the effort............ hope you took the plate through the press also. Liked the Dremel demo.
Just started working with dry point plexiglass so happy to know some else out there is doing it out there. Can’t wait to see out it comes out.
Curious that the symposium opened with the least inspiring artist. Thank goodness for Sumi Perera et al in the following sessions!
Erm is this a tease? 😀
A taster tease.
Thanks for the demo! Very good information.
Astounding works.
Thank you for an interesting video. Would it be possible to seal the plate before printing, say with shellac?
Hi yes the plate can be sealed with a varnish such as shellac or an acrylic varnish, however this will make the surface of the plate quite smooth the result would effect outcome of the print, as the glue applied makes a clean wipe the colour retention of the bare card offers a contrast to drawn line made using the glue.
I usually seal with diluted PVA
Very beautiful results, congratulations! I would put blue ink with the roller! Thank you 😊
This looks fun! Wonderful Nigel - I love it when happy accidents become successful experiments! This looks fun! Thanks for sharing.
Hello , thanks for you explanation, very good. Thanks. Could you please , tell me the reference of the Chemicals? It`s very useful for me.
Love the one you made from your drawing
VERY NICE ! THANK YOU FOR SHERING.

Thank you for this wonderful detailed explanation for your beautiful print.
What is the minimum number of copies one should use this machine to avoid ink wastage or keep cost in check?
The machine makes several prints to get the inks through the masters etc, there is very little ink wastage and the paper from the above process can be recycled so I would say there is very little waste, you can print just a few prints however the more you print the more cost effective it is. Our machine is used by graphic artists and print artists wishing to make Risograph prints to sell they do not make large editions of prints however it is worth considering how many you do print on a print print run because the stencil or master is not reusable and would need to be made again from scratch for a little more cost.
Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing.
A wonderful watch, thank you. I have really enjoyed watching the creation of this plate. I like the idea of using acrylic varnish instead of shellac- I can’t quite see which varnish is used but does it matter if it is mat or gloss🤔 Thanks again Julie
