with how good the AI denoise is now in adobe camera raw low light shooting is much less of an issue than ever before. I know it still struggles in very dark scenes such as astrophotography but scenes with lots of mid tones it works very well. I've shot at iso 12,500 and the AI denoise removed so much noise you would think it was shot at iso200. Great video!

Thanks for your thoughts, comparisons, and shots. I bought this lens used in mint condition about a month ago. I'll use it for all the use cases you mentioned, including in the Himalaya next month. I've practiced vlogging with the 9-18mm lens using an OM-5, experimenting with focal lengths and especially checking facial distortion at the widest angles. I'm also trying with video to first focus on me, then scenery behind me, and seeing if I can smoothly exit the frame and turn the camera forward, towards the scenery or trail ahead, perhaps with a zoom-in, and later re-enter the frame smoothly. I turn the flip-out screen during this process too. I'm not sure yet if I can succeed, meaning I may need to stop the video filming, and restart it. I've also practiced quickly assembling a bipod from my trekking poles (two wrappings of rubber bands to join them at the grips). Affixing a short aluminum extender rod to my camera's 1/4" tripod mount, I then stuff the rod between the poles such that it is squeezed and stabilized between the pole grips. This is working well. I can stabilize for at least 2.5 seconds with a 150mm focal point on a different lens, and the IBIS produces sharp photos with no shake. Maybe I can combine this stabilized platform with the filming maneuver in the second paragraph above. Any thought on this process? The short length and light weight of the 9-18mm lens facilitates this.

This lens was the reason that I bought an Olympus EM5 m2. It is weather resistant and none of the SONY lenses were in the equivalent 18-200 APS-C range. I still have my SONY-s and just bought an a6700 but the Olympus is the camera I take more often than not.

There's the Tamron 18-300 which is weather sealed. Not to the same standards of m43, and bigger too, but I'll be comfortable taking it out even in a light rain with frequent wipe downs.

@@professionalpotato4764 The Tamron lens didn't exist yet when I got my Olympus EM5 m2. Sony has, in the past couple of years, released a few premium weather resistant APS-C lenses, but still has nothing like the variety of Olympus (now OM) PRO weather resistant lenses available. Don't get me wrong, I really like my SONY cameras too and have recently bought some fine, newer, Sony lenses (the 16-55 f2.8 G, the 15mm f1.4 G and the 10-20mm f4). I am also considering the 70-350 zoom but have not made up my mind yet.

Alvast dank🌞

Beste Gerie - Geweldige camera’s! Ze werken allebei prima samen met deze lens. Het enige waar ik zorg voor draag is een snelle sluitertijd om bewogen foto’s te voorkomen.

I got some great photos with this lens. And it's good value compared to more expensive pro zoom lens. Were you hand holding the camera for those shots? Great review, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ron! Yes, all pictures were taken handheld. The (lack of) weight and size of this camera are some of the main advantages in my view.

Nice review, thanx, I have Mark I version, bought seconhand. On short end is very sharp but over 250mm is rather soft. I like this lens but best range is 75-220mm.

Thanks for your comments! When you need to go beyond 220-250 mm, do you use another lens?

Solid lens when light is good. Love how light and compact for the reach it gives.

Hello, greeting from Singapore. I use this lens with my Olympus OMD EM5 mark i camera. And it's been almost 4 years of using it and I've found it to be my favorite lens. All video recordings and bird photography on my RUclips channel, I use this lens. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences about this lens. 👍🔔. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

This lens is indeed surprisingly good and fun to use. Excellent value (I got mine used for less than €300). It works even better on the newer cameras (e.g. OM-1) with better autofocus and IBIS. I do miss weather resistance, which would make it more all round.

Hi tizio54 - fully agree with you! Love MFT weather sealed lenses - e.g. the Zuiko 12-40 mm 2.8 Pro and also the Ziko 14-150 mm F4-5.6 II. Think this could be a real differentiator for the MFT format!

Thanks for sharing, love your shots, especially the planes. I went to our local airshow in NZ with my 40-150 2.8 Pro. The shots were very sharp also, but you got closer with your lens, so I'm envious. Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next one.

Thank you so much for your kind words John Stephen! Was really funny to see FF Nikon and Canon users using tripods and monopods for their lenses, whereas I could easilly take handheld shots all day!

I watched your review and at the end you briefly mentioned the 100-300 from Lumix. I have photographed with both the Olympus and the Lumix, where the Lumix performs considerably better. Not in the least because it lets more light through, which means a considerable gain in shutter speed for telephoto. I do not miss the 25 mm less zoom range. The OLYMPUS MFT 40-150MM R F/4.0-5.6 ED is a very good and inexpensive alternative. Converted to the 35mm standard, a range of 80 to 300 millimeters, which is already a respectable telephoto range.

Thanks for letting me know Sjoerd Blom! Good to know. What kind of MFT camera bodies are you using?

@@dutchaperture To answer your question: I shoot both with the mft format and with a full frame camera. The big advantage of the MFT format is in particular the smaller and lighter equipment and lenses. Most of the time I use the LUMIX gx80 which I am very satisfied with. In addition, an olympus OMD m10 III, although it is used more by my wife. When I am ready I will buy a LUMIX GX9 because the rangefinder format appeals to me more. Groeten uit Portugal, Sjoerd.

Hi Alfranco - Thank you for your compliments! I love MFT, but am also afraid it might eventually die, mainly as a result of marketing decisions (pricing and promotion) in the first years after the system was introduced. Too bad, it could have been a real game-changer!
