Snow keeps piling up in Snowbasin's snowiest season on record. 85" of snow has fallen over the last 8 days and 504" has now fallen in the 22/23 season to remember. 22" of that snow fell over night. Snowbasin typically doesn't get lake-effect snow like the Cottonwoods do, but this was a lake-effect storm. Rumor has it that it was 4% density snow! 20:1 snow/water ratio!. The snow of dreams. The 2022/2023 winter is the officially the snowiest Snowbasin EVER! 482" has now fallen and it's not even the end of March! Across Utah, the SWE is also at the highest recorded level in the SNOTEL era which dates back to 1983. Many other resorts have or will break their all-time snowiest season records as well.

Winter trek to the top of Mt. Ogden above Snowbasin, UT 2023 has been an incredible season thus far! This was the 3rd of 4 times that we hiked this in the last 3 days. The conditions the first 2 times were blustery to say the least with wind chill temps atop Mt. Ogden of -4 and -5. Today the conditions popped bluebird, but the chutes were more wind affected than the last time as winds shifted f...

Steep & deep is the best!! My best was Wiegele's in 1988, on "old school 205cm", when the snow kept "choking" me down one of the best tree runs I have ever done!! Memories!! 😅
So fresh and so clean clean
was the traverse to skier's right required by the run? for lift service? or just wanted the nice bowl-y snow at the end? thanks for the vid. cheers.
You can ski straight. I just love that bowl.
Best snow you were going to get was at 1:20
Recently moved to Morgan and caught the tail end of this season. Snowbasin will be our main stomping grounds moving forward so I've loved watching all your videos to scope out the chutes. I'll be skiing Monday-Friday and hope to cross paths. BTW- how are you liking those Enforcers (104 frees I believe)? My go tos are my Deathwish 112s but coming down from Teton Valley, I may need to find a comparable 100ish ski and have been looking at the Enforcer 104 free and the Deathwish 104. I do have a pair of 100mm Enforcers but like the look of the tails on the 104s more. Anyway, thanks for all the great content!
Nice! Welcome. I love the 104 free but I also like the graphics on the 100. The key for me is if you get stoked putting on your skis. I usually grin a little when I get off the gondie cause I love me skis. Hope to catch ya next season! Cheers homie 👊
What's the width on your Enforcers?
These are the 100 under foot. I also have the 104 free which are 104 under foot. Thanks for watching
Thanks for posting, I have never explored that side of the mountain.
obviously wimped out to lower terrain. Glad this fed your ego.
Thanks homie 💦
That was such a sick run! ❤️ me some 🌞snowbasin!
Thanks for watching. We had fun !
Great video! How do i contact you for the ski goggles review?
I miss this mountain so much. The early 2000’s were absolutely epic. New lifts and no crowds. Take me back.
With Ikon those days are LONG gone. So many people, so many collisions. All for $…
@@SkiBum6062 Yeah it’s lame. Been riding powmow for the last few years but it sounds like they’re following in basin’s footsteps and building more parking lots. Sad.
@@kendestine9905 change is not inevitable, especially with the Olympics again. Enjoy it before it changes even more. Thanks for watching 👊
It could get deep from John Paul Jones north. But back in the early-mid 80's you had to hike for it, in and out. The Sunday town races was the fun. Wonderful memories from there.
Thanks for the nostalgia. Cool. By chance do you know when they installed the towers on Mt. Ogden? I’ve had a hard time finding much out about them, even in the Standard Examiner. 👊
@SkiBum6062 sorry, don't know. I left Utah in 1987.
What camera is this?
Hero 9 Black. To me most GoPro’s at this point are of comparable quality but the thing that sets this apart is the enduro battery. Thanks for watching
How long is the hike compared to going straight up from Porcupine?
40 mins but that’s with knowing the way and not stopping. Let’s put it this way, i’ve never gone straight up Porky
@@SkiBum6062 Yeah, My buddies and I went up Porky but it was straight up for a good hour. Looks much easier and flatter going over fingers
@@owlpromtb yeah it’s generally good practice to go the way patrollers go and they don’t go straight up. Also, typically you sink straight in and the boot pack is a lot of work
@@SkiBum6062 That was the boot back they had set, and there was a gate open at the bottom. There was no avalanche danger on the day we did it.
@@owlpromtb nice. Thanks for watching 😉
OMG brothers! Super Gnarly and Sketched out Ridgeline!!! I know you boys are highly skilled!!!Great Run!!!
Nice. When I saw those tracks...I knew it was you two.
💥
I was watching you do that! It looked incredible 🔥
Thanks homie. Killer turns 💥
@@SkiBum6062 looks like it! I've never been up there but I want to asap
@@mattisking it’s quite the haul up. We broke trail and it took 40 mins at 9,000+ elevation. Always worth it IMO
@@SkiBum6062 looks like it was! I love hiking so I think I'd enjoy that 😂
where do you go after you hike up the tiny part to middle bowl cirque to get there?
Not sure what you mean, but if you go through the access gate hug the rope till you see the lift and that below. You don’t have to hit the cliff if you don’t want and it’s still fun 👍
@@SkiBum6062 thankyou!
May I suggest mic'ing up the ski's instead of the breathing?
Yeah I’m not mic’ing up. I’d stop making videos before I mic’d up lol
UT AHHHHHHHH!
I'm curious how you get from 1:46 - 1:48 over toward Hell's Canyon more (I think is what it's called??) I have peeped it from below and ridden the bottom of No Name to about up to 1:46 where you're at, but have never ventured further north wrapping back around for that backside... the way out doesn't look tooooo sketchy but then I wonder how the traverse or path in is, because I do see that there are some cliffs if you were to cut in too high / early onto the north side of that hill... Not sure if any of that makes sense, lol.. I'm just glad we got more snow after all, this year!
Thanks for watching. Hells is out of bounds and should only be skied if you 100% know where you are, have avi gear and buddies to save your ass if you get in an avalanche. That being said, the part of the mtn your are referring to is the Pyramids. If you follow the boundary line then cut hard North when the boundary line stops. Enjoy the Freshies!!
Amazing videos of snowbasin! I really enjoy seeing videos like these as it helps me scope potential lines. I spend most of my time in Lcc and have most zones memorized. I’ve skied snowbasin 2 days last year and had an amazing time on John Paul but sadly the Allen tram wasn’t open. I really want to explore this area when I visit this year and I’m wondering if the area is generally easy to scope and asses skiable lines. I’m not familiar at all with the terrain and this recent event has spooked me quite a bit of venturing the area. Thank you for your time
I didn’t specify, speaking of the mt Ogden area, sorry such long comment
Hey! I skied this one for the first time a couple weeks ago in January. My heart was pounding at the top but it’s not too bad. It sure is steep! And you’re right, Demoisy bowl is where the fresh tracks are. I would love to get first tracks off the very top some day.
Awesome! The view from up there is almost priceless and if the skiing is primo then it’s all the better. Thanks for watching 👍
Epic.
Sounds like NEngland skiing on a sheet of ice.Good skiing there.......
Yeah the snow gets scraped off due to the pitch, so unless your one of the first 10 people in there it gets a little choppy but the treat is getting into DeMoisy 😉
Takes some work to get to but an absolute party hill. Snow didn't look too bad, thats awesome!
I love this run!! Haven't hit it yet this season but I did it so much last year and it's totally on the list. Glad to see you had fun with it!
Yeah buddy fun stuff !
If only you had gone today, they just got 14 inches
Skiing was great today 👍
Everything about the layout of that run looks perfect. Sad that it has “No Name”. 😆 Maybe because there aren’t words to describe how perfect it is. 🤔
No Name runs always last in your mind longer than others, but literally the run is called No Name. Thanks for watching 👍
What camera did you use? Thanks - happy skiing.
I’ve been using the Hero9 black. The big diff with this one over its predecessors is the enduro battery, which is crucial in extremely cold and wind blowing conditions.
I think the GoPro Max might produce the best skiing video. The Max 2 is announced, just waiting for it. Trying to get by with my Hero 6, lol.@@SkiBum6062
this looks way less scary then i thought it would look
If the snow pack is deep enough, then the spine down the middle doesn’t stick up too high but if the spine is showing it gets harder, especially if one side sluffs out. Have fun !
I never knew I could go this way! I always go up the tram and go down the main way. This looks so fun and refreshing!
Good man - skiing close to what I got (104s free), so I'll know what to expect, lol.
Nice. I love my Nordica skis. I just got a new pair of the 100 under foot. Skied em for the first time on Monday. Woohee they were fun
Nomad Scott here...just read you got a good dump...see you guys in a week.

So sweet! Nice video! I would love to see you do Heller's Chute off the top of Mount Ogden next. If you need help finding it, it's showed just under 14 minutes into my latest posted video.
Yeah I know Hellers. We call it the Crippler. See my Spring Skiing 2017 video. Thanks for watching.
love these videos. great to see snowbasin getting the love it deserves.
just great to see some of this terrain. i have three children and don't yet dare to do the race chutes. have a great season.
I had some amazing powder days this 22-23 season at Snowbasin and Powder Mountain! It’s now 100°F in July and I miss the snow😢
Yeah me too! Hopefully we’ll be shivering again soon.
I've been hankering for a return to winter too. We'll be back into the season soon enough! Hopefully we get another stellar accumulation in 23-24 :D
i know where this is but how do you hike to there?
Thanks for watching. The fastest way is to go Strawberry to Middle Bowl Cirque and up to Needles Cirque. Last season that way was only open like 2 or 3 days. Alternatively, it’s a long way, but you can go from the tram over or straight up Porky Cirque.
Do I need to bring an avalanche pack for any of the runs in Mt Ogden (including this one) Or is it controlled
They do not do avi mitigation in this terrain. It is considered out of bounds and later in the season after this was filmed there was a large slide in this exact spot. If you have a avi bag I’d bring it. 🤙
@@SkiBum6062 did you bring a bag?
@@parzival2874 I brought my backpack with shovel and probe and was wearing a beacon but I didn’t bring my avi bag because it is only the BCA Float 12 so it doesn’t have much room.
This is a wax and wide year. Loved it.
Had a increbdible year skiing the record snow dump with you guys. Got in 84 days which I will never forget. Fingers crossed for 23/24...stay safe and I'll see you on the first gondola! AND...thanks for documenting the year with these vids.
