The Sandspit Files: Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - The Night Before The Day
Rincon was excellent this day from a shorter interval swell, but by the afternoon Sandpit started to show the signs of the new, bigger, 20 sec. interval swell arriving. A lot of this swell broke in the dark, but it held up and broke all day the next day in classic form. This was the session that went down that couple of hours before it got too dark on Tuesday, December 4th, 2007.

7:13 might be the dumbest fly out I’ve ever seen
the wave is called sandspit, not sandpit. i'll be making sure to click "do not recommend channel"
typo. thanks for the catch.
How amazing was the lack of surfing population!
THANK YOU
thank you!
Sick!
thank you! trying...
@@overheadunlimited good onya mate! Love that footage....
How about MR's mullet!!?? Epic!
The days when Sandbar used to barrel... Been a long time since we've had a proper day full of long tubes. The sand just hasn't been right for years.
Rip buddy. Miss seeing your big smile around SB.
Shaun Thompson, California? He is from South Africa
Sandspit
This is so cool to see. Nothing like The Eddie event.
Back when people rode real boards
Perfect day for my moonraker
no idea why you're advertising it... you gotta hide it - especially with things slowing down... The reality is - using concrete rocks or (coated) used cargo containers we could make breaks like this all over the place with a little sand pumping to get the head of land in place.
All good surfers. Dane did look the best i thought. Great powerful style , is there any footage of him at Sunset?
Willy Morris 'RIP" by far had the best top turns ,light years ahead during that era.In today's criteria he would of won.
Derek was so humble in his win he also never got the recognition he deserved with his word title win and neither did sunny
Tom must be the only surfer in the world that can brag that a board made love to him
Potts probably missed out on a sniff before he went out
As a color man Peter Townsend SUCKED!
FYI, Simon Anderson invented the 3 fin surfboard.
No, he invented the new style tri fin using Mark Richards flat side foil twin fins,Simon just added an extra fin to Marks design, calling it a thruster. Tri fins date back to 1970 a lot of the original twin fins came with a center box fin option Owl Chapman rode tri fin guns in 1969 .
@@Thecoachco I remember trifins from the '70's. Nothing like the thrusters that Simon invented. I'm also aware of Marks contributions to twin fins - earlier used by Corky Carrol. Mark toed-in his fins, (shaper Brian Hinde) that loosened up the boards. I heard that Simon invented the thrusters for riding backhand at D'bar. And that makes sense.
@@RobertFach Thats what I said Simon invented the thruster
Legends!
Chris “wrap-around” down! RIP We miss seeing you around town.
such a ripper and so was Marvin Foster yeah
You mean carve'n Marvin foster...🤙🏻
On tour with Dane in the 80's, we ripped Ropponggi up one night that's for sure....
MR😅
Woah! What year is this from? This look like pre-tsunami Asu -- is that right?
yes. August, 2002.
@@overheadunlimited amazing - thank you. Asu is one of my favorite places and I surf there regularly. I’ve always wanted to see the wave pre-tsunami, so thanks very much ! Earl, who runs @asucamp , thanks you as well! I’ll be there next weekend in fact and I’m looking forward to it!
Boards looked just as good then as they do today
you had time on the tour to get your feet back then
Tom Curren on a longboard
Hate to say it but contests like that back then were way better than today. Fewer people fewer sponsors better announcers no spectators clogging up the channel no drones buzzing all around. RIP solitude.
Todd Holland, legend.

They were the days...follow your dreams everyone, salamat from 10N
Chris Brown ❤
Tripping to see Sunny young with stick legs. Man I miss him.
such a Legend!
Sem eye final ?
Wish they showed the early rounds - apparently it was really clean and nice... Thanks for the upload though. Nice memories
Those snap-backs and cutdowns are incredible.
... Love these old clips brutha... Remember some of these moments reading about them in magazines etc .. but I cant remember how Eddie died 🙏🌊
Giving his life to save the lives of his friends stranded out in open ocean. A rescue party did find them, but Eddie had already made the ultimate sacrifice. What A Legend of a human.
@@Sol_Weird ... Thanks mate 🙏 Yeah I just didn't trust my memory... Eddie would go 🌊 ❤️
RIP Mark foo
All of these ladies look super magnificent in those bikinis in this 1983 classic video!!
I remember back in the day this was on Public access 17 in Santa Barbara, Ca. I used to watch it all the time. An exciting day for me was getting to surf an NSSA heat with Peter Townend and Alen Sarlo. Seniors Division. When i was 13 in 1983 surfing the boys division I never thought I would be competing into my late 40's
That guitar work in the beginning was sooo righteous!
Good Times making memories- total flashback 🇺🇸🇦🇺
Way before his time. Early 80s at panics, 4-6 ft…pulling into the barrel at the peak on every wave. Never saw anyone come close to his talent, that includes touring pros.
Time tunnel . Amazing board shapes, people OP Pro and HB. Thank you for the film's
I think the wave as far as the surfing industry peaked in the late 90s. These riders used to get huge paychecks from sponsors. Put up in million dollar houses right on the beach of north shore. Now you'll be lucky to get a couple grand from some of the biggest sponsors. Surfing became too corporate
the more expensive it became to live near the ocean, the less of a "surfing lifestyle" there was to sell to middle America...
Thanks for posting these old vids, I swear i remember watching this one when i was 16 living in Carlsbad. Now I live in Vista, frickin crazy what’s happened to our sleepy beach towns in North County, disgusted.
A couple years ago I drove from Carlsbad to Torrey Pines, and could not believe the change$. It's very nice, but I miss those sleepy beach towns, too.
H3O with Mark Foo too please 🙏 😂
