    Blows me away when experienced climbers "rap" off the ends of their ropes for failing to tie large knots that cannot pass through their rap devices. First it was Jim Madsen in 1968 who rapped off the end of his rope on El Cap. Then one of my climbing pals in the 1970s rapped to his death off the end of his rope on the Glacier Point apron. Then several years ago a gal rapped off the end of her rope on the Snake Dike route on HD. Then Gobright rapped to his death off the end of his rope. I NEVER took rapping for granted in my climbing years. I was OCD about setting up a bomb proof rap. Rapping is probably the most dangerous aspect of roped climbing, only exceeded by free soloing.

    Sad, the climbers who die are not practicing safe climbing. Gives climbing a bad name!

    Every one of these climbers will fall to their deaths. I guess if that's how you want it to end, it's your choice. Just don't put first responders in harm's way because of your wish to do a bloody bounce down a mountainside. They don't want to die the way you do.

      Most mountain search and rescue in the US is performed by volunteers who are themselves climbers.

    speed climbing seems needlessly dangerous anywhere outside a gym you can't even enjoy the scenery if you are racing up it

      On alpine routes climbing very quickly can protect you from objective hazards. Also, Brad Gobright didn't die speed climbing, he died in a rappelling accident when his anchor failed.

    He seems so rational and grounded here; hard to believe he made such a rash and risky decision to do a dual rappel on a single rope, that cost him his life. What was he thinking?

    I don't climb anymore. I gave it up due to a baby on the way. I never met Brad but enjoyed his climbing and boldness. The bloke was not scared to go BOLD on gear. He was very underrated but I think that's how he liked it. The way he died should be a stern lesson to all who know his story. I pray his heart knew Christ. I hope his family is able to find peace. God bless

      So if he didn’t happen to be a Christian, what, you don’t think he’d get to go to heaven? Get outta here with your evangelizing. This isn’t the forum for that.

    • @mycologybytycology
      @mycologybytycology 3 года назад

      @@YogSoth I will say what I like and you will do absolutely nothing about it.. I'm sorry Jesus bothers you. It's because of your own convictions you feel the need to say what you said. But those are your insecurities and convictions bothering you. So it makes you feel better about your false belief to "try" and put me down in which you have been unsuccessful. I would pray you know Him as well. Now I'm sure you have some insult or last word you have to say to fill your self-worth for the day so let fly. God bless mate.
