You've got a really good deal on it, taking the great condition it was in. Mine was a proper barn find that took a lot of effort to keep it on the road. I've got it over 5 years now. It never was perfect either, it had a lot of rust spots all over, when I've got it, so after 2 years of ownership I've had to replace a swing arm as it corroded to the point, it wouldn't pass an MOT. Additionally over time, I've had it, the engine was leaking oil and eventually blown up with one of the cylinders loosing compression, so I've had to do a costly repair to get it replaced after 3 years of ownership. I've been lucky enough to find a low mile replacement, taken from a motorcycle with only 10k on the clock. In the meantime, as I was using it in all types of weather, the electrics corroded and I've had to do some wiring cleaning to get it going baxk again, as it had issues switching on. Now, after 5 years I've decided to sort the rust spots out as the frame was heavily corroded and it was flawing it's looks, so currently I'm sorting the paint job out with cleaning of all the chromes and so on. I may stick something like a '5 years on' vid at some point back on the yt if you guys would like it, once I'll get it sorted properly. Anyway, a great bike to have, congrats on getting one!

The other thing you can do is to stick an SSD in it. Some R830 are coming with quite nice CPUs like an i5 or so. Put there SSD in it, 8GB of RAM and it will be all right. Additionally you're getting a good, portable laptop with long battery life and sensible performance. I personally like R830 - since they made it years ago, it's still a reasonable mobile platform, even today

The vid is few years old now, but it was cheap - something like over 100 euro for over a week we've had it. It was only 50cc though...

I think most MSI branded MXM cards will work with this laptop so long they are HD5850 or 5870 also i think the 7970m will work there too.

@Ralsei Dreemurr is right: it will take pretty much any MXM II gpu. Nvidia included

Still having mine. I've done nearly 15k miles on it since I own it, but I'm starting thinking about selling it over soon. Additionally I will probably post another video with something like 5 years on or something like it before parting with it. Tbh for similar price these days it may be hard to get anything decent. I was purchasing it way before the covid started. Money had worth differently back then...

Correct. When I was buying that one up they were going around £1600 - 1800 already. So I knew I am getting a bergain regardless the state it was. As well I do agree that these are becoming almost a collectibles now.

I've picked up one from ebay for M17x R2. You can as well fit the M17X R1 in it, however it comes with an older processor.

@@enmanuelcastillo9444 motherboard from R4 won't fit into R2. Nor from the R3 as R3 already has a different mobo that R2 / R1 models. What you can do is to upgrade GPU which could make a difference, you can as well probably upgrade CPU but that won't make much difference or replace hard drives with SSD if you haven't yet as that speeds it up massively. The quickest setup I've had running in R2 were two Radeons 7870 in crossfire with SSD and 16gb of ram

The seller is right: the screen itself will be fine. All you need to replace is the glass in front of the screen and scratches will go away

Haha yeh, I've had a German Simson S51 around being 17. Similar story, really as we were working on it with my dad too. Cheddar gorge still remains in plans as we went motorcycle camping to Yorkshire dales instead. Nice to hear from you guys!

Have you tried to install the GPU drivers from official MSI website? If you won't find there ones for win 10, maybe try a win 7 ones if available?

Yes - that's true. I've had one M17x R2 that revived after resetting bios in it. As well when I've swapped memory in other alienware it didn't want to wake up after, even when swapping them back. Without dissasembling, it took 20 - 30 times switching it on-off for bios to reset to fail safe settings and boot normally, where I could adjust the timings in bios to correct settings.
