Interior uses oil-based paint, an inkbird for setting temperature, and 150 Gallon fish tank filter. Once a week, put some bleach. Use Plumbers putty to prevent leaking... 45-55 degrees for 11 minutes a week is all you need. Good Luck.

Temperature control is the best addition you can make. My freezer only runs around 4 hours a day which is a huge power savings. Its funny you said you haven't found the need to do that yet but wrapping it in plastic was an important step, which also makes it run less efficiently.

I have one with a temperature controller, so set it to x degree, and it turns on the freezer when the temp gets 1 degree over and turns off when its 1 degree under. So it runs less than if the freezer was a standard freezer as that would run more often. I havent seen an increase in my electric bill.

My freezer costs about 350 euro a year if you always have it on, Although it doesnt say on what setting this is. I have one with about 200 liters of water. and I have a timer set for 3 hours a day. Everyday I still have to break the ice, It's just that cold. So you're looking at 350 : 12 (month) = 29 : 8 (3adayhhours) €3,60 euro's a month. Keep in mind that I only use the lowest of the lowest setting so this could even be way lower. but 3,60 a month is worst case.

Hi @Scott McGee Looking to create a chest freezer cold plunge solution myself - thanks for the video! Just be careful with the grounding of the freezer. Grounding the freezer to the dirt or "earth" is not the same as protecting you from faults in the circuit. Thought I comment just in case you want to consult with an electrician on how to protect yourself whilst using the chest freezer. I would suggest further, but I'm in Australia, and the circuitry may be different from in the States. I would look into an RCBO Protected Weatherproof outlet. This will protect you from residual current leaks as well as function as a circuit breaker. The residual current device will be far better at saving your life as capable in detecting small leakages in electricity lower than the threshold that is deemed unsafe for human bodies.

Never use a chest freezer unless you break the locking mechanism on the lid first. You do not want to find yourself in a situation in which the lid falls shut on you or on anyone else. This video gives me so much anxiety. Please ensure that the freezer is impossible to lock. Then double and triple check before first use. Imagine submerging yourself fully just for a moment, shaking the freezer as you do which knocks the lid closed. If it locks … the worst occurs to you or to a loved one. This is a terrifying DIY recommendation.
