Doc Jen Fit conquers The Sisu Way Ice Bath: Strength & Determination in the face of Adversity.
This is Dr. Jen Esquer (@docjenfit) conquering a cold plunge in a 33° ice bath after recording Episode 31 of The Sisu Way podcast.
This is about more than the ice. It's about emotional progress through confronting grief, pain, & calamity. Instead of avoiding the painful events of life (or a 33° ice bath), face them squarely & lean into them. By facing the realities of death, loss, & disappointment, you free yourself of illusions, false hopes & learn your truth.

Chest Freezer Ice Bath Set Up - The Sisu Way (Wim Hof Method cold exposure)
Просмотров 234 тыс.5 лет назад
Presented by Scott McGee of The Sisu Way podcast, this video is to provide you information on how to (DIY) convert a chest freezer to an ice bath that's always ready from start to finish. Inspired by the Wim Hof Method, ice bath/cold exposure is shown to boost your immune system, tap into the power of the cold to burn fat, improve sleep quality, increase hormone levels, reduce inflammation, inc...
Johnny Sins out here with the DIY content. Truly a man of many talents.
Do not hyperventilate alone and get into deep cold water. For the love of god.
did you seal any of the seams on the inside?
Ii think you did a great job
Thanks a lot for the interior dimensions !
Hey! 80 years old and my states are AOK with no Issues. Living in the Philippines from Chicago and love to take cold showers. Is this safe for me??
So well made! Awesome
Nice looking freezer, but by wrapping it you are inhabiting the heat from escaping. The resulting effect is longer compressor running. I’m an appliance repair technician
Interior uses oil-based paint, an inkbird for setting temperature, and 150 Gallon fish tank filter. Once a week, put some bleach. Use Plumbers putty to prevent leaking... 45-55 degrees for 11 minutes a week is all you need. Good Luck.
If you want a wood look/finish, you can buy a woodgrain painting tool. How it works is you run it along the paint and it forges a grain pattern which simulates a wood finish. It's very effective
Simulates.
@johnmichaels4330 Predictive text for you. I didn't proof it at the time. However, I've just amended it. Thanks for letting me know
Why didn’t you paint the freezer instead of wrapping
Why wouldn't you wrap it? The vinyl is more weather resistant.
@@johnmichaels4330 not too sure about that.
@@partriotsfight5039 well. Sure seems to be. And it's easier to reapply
Temperature control is the best addition you can make. My freezer only runs around 4 hours a day which is a huge power savings. Its funny you said you haven't found the need to do that yet but wrapping it in plastic was an important step, which also makes it run less efficiently.
He said it only runs 4 hours at night....
You can also put Colloidal Silver in the water to kill bacteria.
Amazing
How is the sealant holding up now Scott?
Really like this. Thank you. I like the way you clean the water as I don't want to drill into the side for a filter.
Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Now I know what is my next project! 🤝
How is it on your electric bill?
I have one with a temperature controller, so set it to x degree, and it turns on the freezer when the temp gets 1 degree over and turns off when its 1 degree under. So it runs less than if the freezer was a standard freezer as that would run more often. I havent seen an increase in my electric bill.
My freezer costs about 350 euro a year if you always have it on, Although it doesnt say on what setting this is. I have one with about 200 liters of water. and I have a timer set for 3 hours a day. Everyday I still have to break the ice, It's just that cold. So you're looking at 350 : 12 (month) = 29 : 8 (3adayhhours) €3,60 euro's a month. Keep in mind that I only use the lowest of the lowest setting so this could even be way lower. but 3,60 a month is worst case.
Klinkt voordelig!
I still need to try to get my freezer motor running(got it off the street, but it doesn't turn on).
I would love to get same freezer and am in Austria What brand is this
It’s a Kenmore 17812 19.8 cu. ft. Chest freezer.
@@scottmcgee4518 love it Hope find one here
looks real dope. where do i buy one lol.
Got mine online during a sale.
How's it holding up 4yrs later with the silicone caulk? People keep talking about water weld, but shits expensive, and they don't seem to have a real reason why it's superior to silicone.
Hi @Scott McGee Looking to create a chest freezer cold plunge solution myself - thanks for the video! Just be careful with the grounding of the freezer. Grounding the freezer to the dirt or "earth" is not the same as protecting you from faults in the circuit. Thought I comment just in case you want to consult with an electrician on how to protect yourself whilst using the chest freezer. I would suggest further, but I'm in Australia, and the circuitry may be different from in the States. I would look into an RCBO Protected Weatherproof outlet. This will protect you from residual current leaks as well as function as a circuit breaker. The residual current device will be far better at saving your life as capable in detecting small leakages in electricity lower than the threshold that is deemed unsafe for human bodies.
would unplugging the freezer before use mitigate the risk or being shocked? is that what your talking about
It’s always unplugged during use.
Thanks. Lots of good tips
❤
This is great 👍🏽 😮
This is by far one of the best DIY cold tank videos.
Thank you. Here to help.
Where do you get the black wrap? Looks great!
Amazon! Nothing fancy.
Link please?
Hey great video and I really like the set up! Maybe you mentioned and I didn’t hear, what kind of wrap I’m interested in wrapping mine when I get it!
Yes please share where we can get the wrap!
Not really need to know “how to decorate “” the freezer dude??? How to deal and keep the water clean - DUH What the hell bro
You become a masterpiece when you master peace! Love it.
What brand ice chest did you use? Can't remember if you said this already.
you know you can literarily go back and rewatch it where he says the brand of the freezer, the wonders of RUclips

Kenmore 17812 19.8 cu. ft.
Great descriptive video. Thank you 🙏. I’m working on getting my set up now I’m currently using a tub and ice but it’s not economical to be able to do everyday having to buy ice.
Can you not just refreeze the ice in bags? or am i missing something. Thinking of doing this myself.
People gonna be locked in ice water. 😂😂😂😂 fuck.
Worked for Captain America and Encino Man.
@@scottmcgee4518 I tip my hat.
What sealant did you use?
Wish I remembered the exact one. A waterproof silicone sealant for plastic should to the trick.
Sika Marine, Amazon. That's the best one.
So its been 4 years now since the video upload is the ice bath still working and did you have to replace any parts?
Hard to answer that fairly since haven't used it in the last year do to remodeling. Prior it was working just fine. The black wrap I used started getting some sun damage and bubbling but it wasn't that bad. I would probably use some sort of veneer plank next time.
You can say to your wife that there are much worse things to do with your time and money. You’d think a spouse would support their significant other working to improve their health and well-being.
Excellent video ! Thanks so great information and ideas !
Thank you and good luck!
Que lindo, amei a madeira em torno.
I’m going to use your idea brother. Thanks for sharing your set up with us.
Good luck brother. Thank you for stopping by!
How long did it take to cool
Depended on the weather. Sometimes I would go buy a couple large blocks of ice to speed up the process but usually a day or two since its a lot of water.
Nice ending. I did read somewhere that you shouldn’t put your head in the freezing water. Apparently not great for the brain, etc.
I am certainly no brain doc, but I do enjoy the way it feels. I also don't spend much time submerging my dome.
Never use a chest freezer unless you break the locking mechanism on the lid first. You do not want to find yourself in a situation in which the lid falls shut on you or on anyone else. This video gives me so much anxiety. Please ensure that the freezer is impossible to lock. Then double and triple check before first use. Imagine submerging yourself fully just for a moment, shaking the freezer as you do which knocks the lid closed. If it locks … the worst occurs to you or to a loved one. This is a terrifying DIY recommendation.
scary... thats going to be first thing to do.. make sure it cannot lock me in.
🤣🤣🤣
If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. If you can’t stand the cold don’t go in the freezer chest. On a plus note if the “worst happens” your loved ones would at least have perfectly preserved organs. 🤣
Good point! Reminds me of one of the older James Bond movies where he's in one of those wooden saunas with the two doors that open up and someone put a stick in the doors and locked James in.
How do you do this?
push the middle button and the laser will come back on
The rubber duckies
Always!
Shiplap planks
Will be going that route next.
Great video!
Thank you!
Great Video Scott , 1/3 Cup of 35% how often? Once a week, once a month? How often would you change the water ? I'm experimenting with sanitation methods, Thanks !!!!
I wonder how hard it would be to add a pressure release switch on the lid, so it kills the power whenever opened? Great Video, Great Set Up!
Brilliant idea.
Good video
informative - great vid, thank you. I'm in the process of sorting one myself but I live in Singapore - thoughts on keeping it working with life on the equator? I'll be keeping it outside.
Engish is not my native language.I find Americans tend to talk alot without getting straight to the point. Its irritating and we lose interest very quickly !!!!!!! Tovolea mo dou matata!!!!!
Thanks.
Sailasa, this is why the United States is the most successful country in the world even during its hard times. Thank you for realizing that and a huge thanks to Scott for this great video!
