@@manymoonsflutes that's really amazing! It's the first time I see a shakuhachi made of branch, and not of bamboo, and it sounds and looks gorgeously. Was it hard to tune it across both octaves? I thought it was really challenging on branch flutes due to their curviness. Really amazing!

@@elanulv_flutes thank so much! This one worked out well. I have tried other branch shakus that didn’t tune right so I’m still working on making them consistent… I think if the bore tapers slightly smaller towards the bottom it helps keep the second octave from being flat… so when you carve you can leave the walls a little thicker at the bottom. I have a good formula for placing the holes that I can share with you if you want. 🙏🙏🪶

I think that fairly true. Usually condensation will build up in about 20-30 minutes and start to affect the sound. You can always just remove the block and dry out the channel and keep playing. Also different environments make a big difference. Cold humid place and it can build up moisture in no time. The effect is the same on all woods. Worth noting that bamboo can swell if it gets too wet. 🙏

It’s actually a tuning hole - rather than shorten the flute I add a hole so that I can keep the bottom node. It adds quite a bit of strength and helps prevent cracking 🙏
