The game is called Halfsword. You can find it on Steam. You have to sign up for the playtest but it is totally free as is the demo version which has gore.

Yeah Father Zera to be fair is a drunkard so his speed makes sense (he at least has some fast attacks) but I think longsword are just nerfed slightly for balance reasons. The game is still a work in progress though so I am sure all weapons are going to get improvements as time goes on. Still, overall the game gets more things right than all of the others as you say. I am glad you are enjoying it :).

These things happen. Usually, it runs much smoother but often there is not much that can be done as we are at the mercy of parsec among other things.

Are we watching the same video? It was more the an a slight touch. The point was already a bit offline (but could have hit) to begin with so that made it easier to parry. It also really doesn't take much to set aside a thrust in real life as long as your structure is sound. It is actually easier when the sword is moving than it is when the sword is stationary and pressure is being applied to resist. The game reflects that.

Yeah, it is surprisingly easy to misinput stuff too. But it makes getting better with the javelin all the more satisfying. Especially when you are competing with lots of people on PC. The melee is easier than aiming projectiles for sure.

It's Posta Di Donna as she brings it behind the back and that is the move I inputed. I agree that the concept carries over across traditions though.

@@Subutai_Khan I think it's just the camera angle that makes it look like she was holding the sword behind her back. You can't realistically parry by holding the sword behind your back in proper Posta di Donna form. What's really happening is she held the sword in high Ochs and maybe slightly behind her head i think

It is literally Posta Di Donna lol. There are two variations of it. Not sure why you have beef with fiorists (I'm not even one lol) but whatever. Wrath is the German version of the guard which is a term I am personally more familiar with so I just put that there as well. You are right that it turns into a thrust, but as per the move list and the two positions of posts di donna fiore himself describes, the position did start in Posta Di Donna. As with many longsword guards as you counter attack you transition naturally into other guards so it ends up being an Ox guard before the thrust down below.

You are aware there is a German tradition of longsword and an Italian one right? Both share some of the same guard positions but call them different things.

This is something that isn’t made clear in the sources but I tend to hear people refer to it as “Guard of the Lady” which has noble connotations if we assume it’s talking about the title. It could have similar roots to the idea of the Queen having the most power on a chess board. Or it could be that it is also a good guard for ladies to assume to allow them to put a bit more oomph into their blows since they tend to be on average weaker than the average man when it comes to upper body strength. Hard to say really. Women who fenced often were a minority but they are attested to in source material so maybe this consideration was made. I lean more towards the chess board or nobility theories myself. If I could offer something else, maybe the graceful moves you can perform from what initially looks like a brutal barbaric position is seen as ladylike. I find it interesting the Germans just alluded to anger and sin and called it wrath guard. A very different interpretation.

I practice the German tradition so I am not 100% sure but I think it’s only a strike coming down from the right shoulder that is called the peasant strike since it’s the most basic swing.

In my club we practice Fiore (no German, funny enough), and I remember we learnt that guarding a mandrito fendente (cut down from right shoulder) with what you did here and responding with a strike to the head/neck was called a peasant strike (because if a peasant came at you with a big stick that's likely how they'd attack you). It's really cool you could pull it off in the game though!

No. I was gonna say it looks like she's using Ochs as hanging, but the sword is positioned behind her, making this a Zornhut.

No it is the other variation of Posta Di Donna which is a close equivalent to Wrath guard. It is listed as such in the game too. It does transition into other guards as she thrusts but anyone who does HEMA knows that guards are very natural positions that you often switch to. Like when you throw a cut or a counter thrust among other things.

⁠@@Subutai_KhanOf course all guards are fluid and it’s normal to transition between guards when both defending and attacking, but in this case it is pretty clear she is in long point/long guard for most of the video and briefly winds into Window/Ochs for a moment to parry then thrusts back into long point.

It is, that's what it is called in the game and in HEMA. There is no window guard in the game (aside from autoblock but I did a clear input for posts di donna and this is what came out) and my understanding is this would be closer to ox guard on the left rather than this. Pause at about 0:08 and you will see it is clearly Posta Di Donna.

That was literally exactly what was in the flower of battle. Remember, posta are not like the kata of judo or karate. You do not have to be exactly perfect with your position of various guardia/posta in order for them to be correct.

Yeah, it is quite a gem I think :). As someone who grew up with Gen 4 I just cannot stand where the current Pokemon meta is going and think the designs of Gen 4 are peak Pokemon. I was cool with mega evolutions and Gen 6 but do not like the stuff that came after that generally. Legends Arceus is a great game though. I am biased though of course and I understand not everyone feels the same way. I feel old now cause Gen 4 was a looong time ago XD. This game really hits that nostalgia itch for me.
