Then he said to her "go and get your husband." She was being convicted. John 7:38-39 "Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart. (When he said "living water," he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.) " I believe that the Holy Spirit is the one that convicts. Salvation has three parts to it: justification, sanctification, and glorification. Justification by faith means that there is nothing we can do to save ourselves from the power of sin. We need a Savior. Sanctification means that by God's Holy Spirit we are empowered to work out our salvation; to overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil. Glorification means that if we endure till the end, we will experience the redemption of our bodies to the glorified state upon His return.

Then, when God wanted to create his final covenant with humanity, he used the moon Holy Spirit, the lesser light to come to reality in reality in the personification of the immaculate conception, which then through that female spirit was able to bore the. The Apostles weren't infallible. They made mistakes. Yet you believe their testimony that Jesus died for your sins and arose from the grave on the third day. There is an element of faith there. Informed faith, but faith nonetheless. It is the same with Scripture. We have informed faith that the Holy Scriptures are the divine revelation from God to mankind. We look at the O.T. books which the Jewish people of God preserved and which Jesus quoted from authoritatively, and we look at the N.T. books which the early churchmen (before any Council) quoted as their authority _tens of thousands of times,_ and these facts inform our faith. No mortal human is infallible. You can't gather a bunch of fallible humans into a bundle, call it a Council or a Magisterium, and somehow transform those fallible men into an infallible group. However, God is the author and preserver of His words, and God moved upon fallible men's hearts to issue a list of books which would be an error-free (inerrant) list. Not infallibly, which would imply that the men were incapable of failure, but inerrantly in that the particular action was so inspired by God as to be free from error. Do you see the difference? Yet there is still the element of informed faith on the part of every Christian in regard to that list.

    2:49 and herein lies my diagnosis for the biggest problem with sola scriptura. One can forgive Protestants when it comes to disputes regarding the canon of Scripture. Even today there are differences in canonicity between apostolic Christians and even between churches within the Catholic Church to the extent that some churches will traditionally treat more than 73 books as inspired like the Eastern Orthodox, e.g. Psalm 151 and the Prayer of Manasseh without condemnation and suppression by Rome. One cannot forgive a Protestant for calling the Scriptures themselves an *infallible* rule. It makes no sense to call a text infallible. Perhaps the text contains no error (inerrancy), but how does that translate to being incapable of producing error in one’s understanding of the faith (infallibility)? The moment one defines sola scriptura as the *infallibility* of Scripture as a rule of faith, we get the two problematic doctrines of formal sufficiency and perspicuity by logical necessity. At that point, the individual Christian has elevated themselves to a final authority on any matters they hold with confidence. Hence the Church splinters into as many groups as there are varied interpretations each at odds with one another. PS: At 13:40 you seem to be assuming that the 73 book canon is closed. I’m not convinced Rome has closed the canon. If it has, there would be insurmountable difficulties in reunification with the East. In my estimation, the Magisterium has infallibly declared those 73 books as Scripture, but it has not closed the canon to the possibility of there being other works of Scripture recognized as such by other apostolic Christians. If there is a Magisterial pronouncement that limits canonicity to the 73-books canon that I’m unaware of, please don’t hesitate to share.

    To this day I have not found a good answer from the Protestant side on how to know the canon with certainty, since this is not communicated to us from the revealed Text, which for them works as the sole infallible rule of Faith. And this whole "a fallible list of infallible books" thing is not consistent with Protestant behavior regarding the canon. They do not really believe and operate as if they had a fallible list, but as if the 66 Books canon were communicated from the mouth of God Himself as much as the Sermon on the Mount or the Lord's Prayer.

      To play some devil’s advocate, couldn’t the Protestant say their 66 books are the ones that wholly correspond to each other without confusion or contradiction while still being recognized as Scripture by faithful Christians and preserved through the ages? In my very limited knowledge, it seems Luther used that kind of reasoning to remove the Epistle of James since it contradicted his eisegesis of Romans that survives today as sola fide, so it seems to accord with their attitude toward discerning individual books of Scripture. So, it seems that Scripture is recognized as such fallibly by each individual Protestant Christian during their conversion and then taken to be the infallible foundation of their faith on faith.

    • @UnapologeticallyCatholic1
      @UnapologeticallyCatholic1 21 день назад

      @ they absolutely could. Even if they did that, it would still be impossible for them to have an infallible canon IF sola scriptura is the only infallible rule of faith.

      @aleckim9337 the pharisees preserved A canon (their own), not THE canon. And precisely because they were not infallible nor did they have an infallible mechanism in this regard, in the time of Christ and the Apostles, there was a relevant diversity of considerations among jews regarding what constituted Scripture. What we call the hebrew canon is a product of the pharisaic rabbinic schools, but after Christ, after the destruction of the Temple, which to some extent developed precisely to oppose the apostolic literature aka the New Testament, which at its time was seen as just another jewish sect. For this reason, the discernment of jews whose religion consists of denying the Messiah is not spiritually relevant for the Church. Also, nothing clearly indicates that the Apostles felt obliged to the pharisaic canon, so... why should we?

    "help run to her", why are we running to Mary, and not to Christ, our high priest?"" "authoritative church..." No, God has spoken through his prophets in the old days, and in these days he has spoken through HIS SON. not, His CHURCH the sinless Mary and perpetual virgin claims are just Catholic mumbo jumbo. There is ZERO proof of either claim, in fact we know of Jesus' siblings, who converted after his resurrection. You and many other catholics take this view of Mary as the new Ark, it's just not there. One verse that kind of uses the same words and BAM, sinless mary. The only way mary would be sinless, is if she was also conceived of the holy spirit, and yet, we know her genealogy. I'm pretty sure Stephen is the first one to have that reward, since ya know, the bible says so. Come out of the catholic church brother. We don't need Mary to intercede on our behalf. We are not told to follow Mary, we are told to follow Christ. None of this is Biblical.

      Christ saves us but Mary can pray for us just like any other Christian can, she just happens to be Jesus’ mother and that’s a big deal so I’m going to ask her to pray for me. She can’t save me, that’s something only God can do by his grace and mercy. Catholics would agree that God spoke to us through his Son. The fullness of revelation is in Jesus but how did Jesus communicate that to us? Not scripture alone but to the apostles. Some things the wrote down but others they didn’t. We see evidence of this is 2 Thessalonians 2:15. Mary is sinless because she was saved by God’s grace before her conception. She remained sinless by cooperation with the grace God gave her. None of it was because of her own nature but strictly because of God’s grace.

    *THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF MARY* _We're talking about Mary's conception...not the conception of Jesus._ The Immaculate Conception is a doctrine of the Catholic Church which asserts that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was conceived without original sin. This belief holds that from the very first moment of her existence, Mary was preserved by God's grace from the stain of original sin that affects all other humans due to the fall of Adam and Eve. This doctrine emphasizes Mary's purity and her special role in the divine plan of salvation. The Immaculate Conception was declared a dogma of the Catholic Church by Pope Pius IX in 1854. *Mary Needed a Savior* Mary was saved by God in a unique way. From the moment of her conception, Mary was preserved from inheriting the guilt of original sin from Adam. That was a pure, unmerited gift of God to her. Here is an analogy: A doctor can save you from death by curing a disease that threatens you. Or a doctor can save you from death by giving you a vaccine that prevents you from getting the disease in the first place. God saves most of us in the former way; He saved Mary by protecting her from original sin from the moment of her conception. *No Infinite Regression* Does Mary's sinlessness require that her parents, Anne and Joachim, were sinless? And her grandparents before them? And every generation further and further back? No, this infinite regression was not necessary. God prevented the guilt of Adam from being transmitted to Mary. She alone was conceived without sin; there was no need for her parents to be immaculate...just her. And yes, God COULD have simply prevented Jesus from being stained by sin. But that's not what happened.
