Gone Surfing Ep.1: featuring Dylan Linde
I got a glass board that is a fun board and it was my first board off a foam and I am trying too do turns on it do you think I should get this board
Great!
Logo is on the outisifr right ?
Just bought a pair. Going to put them on my SMTH Goldfish which I have had set up as a thruster for the last year. 🤞🏼
Surf it, don't talk it. Let's see the surfing, with comparing different fins. This vid is a waste.
Either come up with your own review, or stop complaining and chill out.
hi I am 130 pounds, i bought this fins but idk how i feel about them, I felt it hard to catch waves. Should i go for a smaller keel?
what size waves do you mean by small? 1-3 or 3-4
Another factor for me has been gutless Florida waves with no power vs small waves in Hawaii with power both waves can be 1-6 feet but completely different feel
Sigh, I complained when I lived in Santa Cruz now I’m in knee and waist gutless waves Florida and missing surfing California
just wait till the summer humidity hits lol Florida sucks
Hi. Main differences between the EA and AM1 blackstix? Thanks
Great overview, but I didn't hear the weight recommendations. I'm 135 lbs, kinda at that in between small and medium range. What do you recommend?
Hi, so the honeycombs one it doesn’t work for step up or double overhead? Thank you.
It does work, the difference in feeling is very minimum, unless you are a Pro it wont make much of a difference
Vapor core r6 in a driver 3.0 thoughts taking it to into ?
How do you think these would be on the Twice Baked? Right now I have rasta quads on it. Love them. Thinking about trying these as well.
Like an aircraft with its flaps and slats down, I think V2 foils cause more drag than generate speed (going in a straight line). What I noticed these fins are good for is to loosen up flat boards. The inside concave allows the board to yaw easier.
Love this!
Sick style
Sick. Love the vibe with the music
I've been using these for years. Lost a fin to kelp and I paid up replacing the fin. For some reason I'm close to 200lbs so I have no business riding these but Im very active with my feet. If you aren't a guy that's driving there ass off and being casual I don't think you would like these however obviously I have issues with really throwing a hard bottom turn and have blown these guys out many a time.
What do you think about trying them on the Channel Islands Rocket wide with the swallow tail??
I am looking for quad set up that generate speed but also allows me to turn a little tighter. Would the machado be a good option? Thanks
Did you find the answer now? I bought a seaside, and now looking for a generate speed either
what would be the best choices of fins for the Inferno 72?
I use the the Mick Fanning Large 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I can't find a single youtube video on this: what's the difference between keels and twin fins? Why are keels so much fatter and how does that translate to more "speed and drive"?
when you look at keel fins the fin goes farther out then the limitation of the fin box, if that makes sense. So the fin being longer from nose to tail of the board holdes the water better and just gives more speed that twin fins which simular to thruster just fit the length of the fin box. The keel fins have a more smooth arch and instead of bending far from the board just slope towards the tail. The twins have no center fin meaning less drag and more slidy when it comes to turns and same with the keels but they hold a line better because of the extension of the fin. i feel like i explained this terribly but hope it helps
Awesome tee! Where can i get one from?
Dude your 12 years old. You don’t know 💩about what going on with fins.
why brochado. No need nagative vibes dude.
Nice review! i think i`ll try them!
Very low rocker
Do the machado blackstix have a higher speed ride number than the vapor core raked fins? I know the machados are like a 9.8 but I can’t find the vapor core speed number anywhere and I don’t know what type of waves they are best for.
This video is so rad :)
are they like carver fcs2? good or bad compare? thanks
Hi brother ! Do you think future Machado is good for medium waves too?! Can I use it in both conditions, small and medium waves?! I m use medium fins ever… Grats!!
Generate speed, fly down the line, and allow me to perform at my quickest.... No thanks, I'll take the other ones that make me slow please. 😜
This man is so nice.
my dude needs to loosen up more weight on tha back foot and to bend knees
Anyone tried them in a moonbeam?
No - but sounds fun!
This video is 😊🤙awesome
Hi! I´m thinking of buying these fins but also the Pyzel thruster fins that are slightly bigger and they also have a higher ride number. Any helps for choosing? thanks!
Hey Luis! Higher ride number = looser feel - Lower ride number = stiffer feel: If you want fins for small waves, pick the higher ride #, for larger waves pick the lower ride #. Hope this helps!
Which ones did you choose? I went with the Pyzels and they GO
@@MarleyOrdonezPOV I went for the mayhem ones! They are fantastic for medium waves, but I think they really perform with bigger waves
Nice review! Do you think these fins will work fine on a greedy beaver? Right now I use the large dan Mann fins as a thruster but I feel they are heavy with the 5 fin boxes.
Possibly - it will definitely be faster as a twin than a thruster! Could be a good call for small waves :)
Looks like you made a good call on the session. Fun looking wedges.
Ea blacktix or rob machado blackstix??
Hard choice! I prefer the EA's - good mix of speed + control.
did you get blackstix eventually?
@@jose2x784 Yes, but I switched back to large fins. Now im riding fcs 2 Felipe Toledo fins. Honestly, I didn't feel much difference in flex, but you do feel the size difference of fins. I haven't had the opportunity to buy much fins, so im sticking with the larges.
@@AdrianIrizarry what's the difference in feel? More hold?
@@jose2x784 exactly, the board feels a bit harder to maneuver. pros of large: you can push way harder and gain more speed. Like a high gear on a car. pros of large: you can trust the fins when doing carves. Pros of medium: They feel a lot looser and you have more release. Cons: not as capable of generating speed like the larges. Depends on your weight, these are things that can affect your surfing. But the best way to improve is watching yourself from the beach view and correct your technique. Yeww! God bless!
Im between the ea blackstix and these rob machados. Mostly surf 1-4ft waves and occasionally the 5-6ft waves. Which fins would work best. Looking for one fin set for all conditions but mostly small surf. Im thinking to get the rob machados because they will work alot better in the small surf but i dont know if they will work in slightly overhead surf. Because im transitioning from large stiff fins to medium flexy fins.
EA Blackstix might be the call - they have a lower ride # so you should have a touch more versatility in all conditions.
Marcio Zouvi’s old shaping room at Brown Field in 1992 was one of the most comfortable places to go to get a board shaped. Between 1989&1995 here in Ocean Beach San Diego we had what we called little Rio. Brazilian’s loved surfing the jetty and Avalanche. All power surfers, maybe that’s why we got along so we’ll. Now look at Sharp Eye. Marcio didn’t stumble upon success he earned it! 🤙🏼🔱
Sick review! Watched all the way to the end and realized your shop is in Santa Cruz! Lived up there for 4 years while attending UCSC and never heard of your shop, not sure if it's newer or what but I'll definitely stop in next time I'm in town visiting and grab some gear. Appreciate the stoke you presented the board with, made me want to go out and buy one immediately. Cheers from San Diego!
Appreciate your support and stoke - come stop by next time you're in SC!
Where in the 1904 do you live? I used to manage Emerald City surf & sport Coronado.
Hi Dylan Thanks for the videos. In your opinyon Which fins are better for small waves? The machado blackstiks , the ea blackstix or the am1 blackstix?
Let me start with the following disclaimer “I am a beginner intermediate surfer and fall between small and medium size”. That being said, I own regular blackstix in small, EA blackstix in medium and AM’s in honeycomb and blackstix construction in medium among others. The biggest factor for me was the area. Because I am in between sizes I struggled to find the right size and how that translated to surfboard feel. Once I found what works for me area wise, I looked at construction and template. Machado has two fin designs, a rake template and a pivot template both in blackstix and both in Large only. If your a large size then the pivot template for small surf is the best option. The AM’s have a very distinct rake template and a smaller middle fin. Good for a daily driver (3-7 ft). You can switch between constructions depending on wave energy and size without a radical change in template. However, these have the most area in there respective size but come in all three sizes. EA blackstix come only in medium. They have equal size fins and have a rake template. These are to too much area for me. If you are a heavier on the medium scale and/or a powerful surfer you can manhandle these fins to get them to work. My opinion for small waves…..If you are small get the regular small blackstix. If your between small/medium get the HS2 (my fav) or slightly more area P6. If you are a solid medium get the P6 or for more drive the Machado large pivot P8 or the HS1. If you are large get the Machado large pivot or HS1.
@@kelvinbatista9259 Thank you so much for the in-depth analysis! Stoked to hear your experience on the different templates and how they worked for you :)
Each one of these fins has a Futures "ride number". The Futures ride #'s factor in the flex, template shape and construction of the fin to simply the feel of the fin. Ride #'s closer to the number 1 give a more controlled feel (better for bigger waves) and ride #'s closer to 10 give a more speed-generating feel (better for smaller waves). The fin with the highest ride # out of your choices would be the Machado Blackstix, with a ride # of 9.8. Because of this, the Machado Blackstix should be a great bet for small waves :)
*simplify
Wow thank you both for your help
these are actually my favorite fins, work well anything 2-6 feet. super fun, fast, and springy
Super springy!
Aww, your boy and Sierra rip!
Yes they do!
So how is this different from the #77
#77 has more aggressive entry and exit rocker than the I72. It's stock dimensions are longer and skinnier at the same volume. The #77 will work best in steep, punchy larger waves in the 4-10 foot range and the I72 is best suited for average 2-6 foot waves.
How similar/different are these to the seaside quads?
They should feel similar and different in some aspects. The seaside Quads will provide more hold, drive and control as you have two extra fins in the set to stabilize your board. The Machado keel twins should feel faster and looser, as there are only two fins in the set. They are both similar templates (same construction, similar shape) and should be fun for similar waves - the quads just give a bit more hold and the twins go a bit faster :)
I use both the quads and keels in my seaside and in my seaside and beyond. Like Midtown Surf Shop said, they are very similar except you will lose some drive with the keels butl gain down the line speed. If you like the Machado quads, then this is the best keel set for you since they will perform predictably from the first surf. Just don't push too hard through your turns or you will likely slide out until you get the fins dialed in. I like these keels in my SS&B on small days since they make the larger SS&B move maneuverable and faster than the board is with the quads. However, on chest and up I prefer the quads for added control. I pop the keels into my 5'7 seaside when we have clean waist to shoulder high conditions and the waves are better suited to more drawn out turning. I have tried 4 different keel sets and while the AMK's were a close second, I like how the Mchados pivot better in smaller conditions.. I think the AMK's are the best all round keel for people who like to surf twins most of the time and for riding a keel fin in better and bigger surf. At 175lbs I found the AMK's provide too much hold for my liking in smaller surf and the raked out design makes your turns too drawn out for me. Machados for the win :)
@@benjaminm5232 what size of seaside and beyond do you have ? Also, did you see machado released a new "improved" quad for the seaside ? How do you feel about those vs the og ?
I'm wondering how it compares to the subdriver 2.0.
I have this board and a regular driver 2.0. driver has a little more glide speed, i72 is smoother all around. both are great. I like i72 better.
@@stevelee6364 Hi Steve, is it faster than a monstabox ?
do one of the sharpeye ht2.5 please
yes!
We would love to - when we get some HT2.5's in stock we will!
