    • @joshshoemakerballreviews8616
      @joshshoemakerballreviews8616 2 года назад

      Most of the balls I was throwing a year ago have been swapped out with newer releases. The Altered reality for me is the perfect step down from my Proton when I need a little more shape downlane. The Spectre would be the 3-4th ball out of my bag when I need a ball to shape more at the end of a tournament block.

    Josh, nice review. I am a two-handed bowler as well. I am in my first year of bowling and I am hooked. Can you do a review on the Roto Grip UC3? Hey John! Altered reality, spectre, UC3 and a spare ball is a really solid arsenal to start. I might do a review of the UC3 in the future but I don’t have it planned currently. The next “urethane” ball that SPI releases will most likely feature the UC3 as a comparison ball.

    • @joshshoemakerballreviews8616
      @joshshoemakerballreviews8616 3 года назад

      It has additional additives that reduce the friction created with the cover and the lane. This promotes more downlane motion compared to something like a pitch black. It’s a proprietary blend so I have no insight on that end.

    Real Urethane doesn’t absorb oil...this ball does not absorb oil. But I will subscribe for the 2 handed videos 😁

    • @joshshoemakerballreviews8616
      @joshshoemakerballreviews8616 4 года назад

      All bowling balls start with a urethane base. Most balls (including this one) have additional additives which create a vast amount of shapes accomplished by friction created/oil absorption. The fever pitch, pitch purple, fast pitch and purple hammer all have these additives which allow them to absorb oil. This is why they all hook so much more downlane. Balls like the black hammer and pitch black are solid urethane. These balls do not absorb oil.

    • @coopergates9680
      @coopergates9680 3 года назад

      @@joshshoemakerballreviews8616 Oil absorption can be a contribution, but isn't necessarily always one. I have two particular resin balls where the one that is slower to absorb oil is more skid flippy. I also have a non-resin urethane from 1994 that is longer with more back end (shape wise) than pretty much any non-reactive ball I have seen rolling, purple hammer included. If it absorbed oil, I would have noticed it burning the heads up, but it doesn't.

    • @coopergates9680
      @coopergates9680 3 года назад

      @@joshshoemakerballreviews8616 Have you considered Motiv's Microcell polymer balls, which are not urethane based? The covert and desert tanks looked pretty nice.

    • @joshshoemakerballreviews8616
      @joshshoemakerballreviews8616 3 года назад

      @@coopergates9680 most urethane covers are extremely weak. They are so early and round due to the amount of surface that is applied to them. With the proper amount of head oil, you will notice none of the above mentioned balls slowing down much at all. Oil absorption is very important because you’re talking about the molecular bond the oil has with the cover stock as it rolls down the lane. The microcell balls are very similar to our SPEC covered balls.

    • @coopergates9680
      @coopergates9680 3 года назад

      @@joshshoemakerballreviews8616 Ok, maybe the effect is due to adsorption rather than absorption in some cases, where the cover chemistry attracts oil, but the coverstock is not permeable so the oil doesn't soak in.
