Reconfiguring - Maria Francesca French Interview
@mariafrancescafrench
What comes next after deciding to ask new questions on faith? What does it look like to navigate everyday life from a post-Christian perspective? Can we reconfigure, rather than relinquish, our thoughts around god, faith, and life?
Returning guest Dr. Maria Francesca French answers these questions (and much more!) while talking about her latest book “Reconfiguring: A Collection of Post-Christian Thoughts and Theologies”. She invites us to think about god and faith in a whole new direction and offers hope to those navigating the confusing waters of deconstruction, reconstruction, and a post-Christian life.

    Fact and experience... Vs. deconstruction and inexperience As a retired Respiratory Therapist, I've seen thousands die in my career. This story fits in this context. He was an unconscious suicide attempt that came up to the CCU unit. He was on O2 awaiting intubation, loosely restrained and sedated. Suddenly, something changed. His eyes popped open, staring at the ceiling. He ripped off his O2 and sat somewhat up, horrified: He screamed, "Who are you? What do you want? I saw you by the Coke machine in the ER." With that, his chest heaved as if his soul was being ripped out of his chest. He then screamed, "Where are you taking me?" His body collapsed on the bed, and he died. That changed my theories. There is a God who is God to whom we will give an account. He loves us through His historical Son Jesus...to whom we will one day give an account for deconstructing His Love letter to the world. In your conversations, think hard about what you are doing and to which voices you are listening. One day, like this man, you will wish you had.

    The message of The Bible is immensely simple. You had a relationship with God prior to arriving here and will again upon leaving. What is missing between those two? Being super smart, knowing and understanding ancient history, traveling in Spirit, speaking in unknown languages, advanced transcendentalism, being a theologian, a large IQ - None of those things are required for God to Help you, Heal you, Teach you, Love you and Keep you,.

      It's that logic and reason has led me to believe otherwise with religion and its only been a burden. God doesnt listen and doesn't answer prayers. People lie and say "my prayers have been answered" when in reality, it's just how the world works. For instance, if you pray for God to help you find your keys, and then you go looking for them and find them, one might say "thank you for helping me, God". When in reality God had no part at all. I'm tired of praying. If prayers worked, God wouldn't have let things happen to me that have happened. Prayers are futile and religion is being taught wrong. People nowadays need evidence, historical perspectives, instead of blind faith in a God that you just configure in one's mind to exist. The leading cause of atheism is reading the Bible. And thats why I'm here.

    Rebranded Jesus can be whatever you want him to be: Rebranded Serial Killer Jesus (based on Keith's absurd pantheism) or Rebranded Gospel of Thomas Jesus (based on The Gospel of Thomas which was written somewhere between 60 CE and 250 CE by someone who never met the historic Jesus of Nazareth). Keith has stated that the Gospel of Thomas is both reliable (on the paywalled Inner Circle) and also, at the same time, unreliable (on a recent post on Patreon). Which is it? Obviously Rebranded Schrödinger Jesus! Rebranded Jesus is useless to Jews and Muslims. Keith states that a fish (us) living in water (God / Ground Of All Being) allegory is a poor way to express his Rebranded Jesus's God. He has stated that his Rebranded Jesus (Christ) is like a lit candle who lights all of us so that were are all Christ. Now he suggests we are all God in a similar manner. Is Rebranded Jesus God? Is God Rebranded Jesus? I suggest that the candle allegory is the worst possible allegory to use. It is true that a candle burns brightly in the darkness and that its flame can light another candle. The problem is that the candle's flame eventually burns all the candle till nothing but wax is left. The candle is consumed by the flame. The flame is then extinguished. The candle is dead. A fish lives its life within water. The water doesn't consume it and doesn't kill it. Choose your allegories well. Keith still wrongly states statistics about his books. He stated 8 hours ago that Sola Deus is "WOWZERS! #45 Baby!!" when in actuality it is currently #164,708 in Kindle Store, #263 in Christology (Books) and #1,051 in Spirituality (Kindle Store). It's only #45 in Christology (Kindle Store). Why let the truth get in the way of good marketing and $ale$? Keith is a very poor philosopher. It helps if you have actually studied philosophy. He hasn't and it shows!

    Trinitarian or Oneness, which one is the true mother? Shall we kill the baby and find out? Many will come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Mark 13:6 One baptismal way shows which Jesus one is baptised into and the other way doesn't. There are many Jesus's just ask a yogi or someone in spirit guides, there are spirit guides called Jesus Christ, but there is only one Jesus Christ who is the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. Hence the reason why Christ showed us HOW to baptise in His Name in Matt.28:19. All the Acts references are referring back to Matt.28:19. When we don't baptise according to Matt. 28:19: in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of Holy Spirit, and we just say: I baptise you in Jesus name, which Jesus are we baptising people into, it could be a great number of different Jesuses. Mexico is full of Jesuses. We must specify in the wording of the baptism WHICH Jesus we are baptising people into. Many will come in my Name... deceiveing MANY...

      @@iwasjustintrance I think that because capitalism has an incentive to create individualistic, isolated consumer subjects, and to commodify as many aspects of the human experience as it can, the beliefs you are sharing here are as hegemonic as they are. Because the power structure has such a strong drive to alienate people from robust communities that provide mutual aid, strong social systems that exist outside market mediation, and their own heritage, it creates an over-eagerness to label religious experiences and values that are at odds with modernity and capitalism as abusive or traumatic. I believe that none of us are autonomous enough to be immune from ideology and the tremendous power behind them, and with this in mind I find ex-religious discourse and communities like your own to essentially be reifying the foundations of this neocolonialist ideology that you passively absorb by living in the West. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment, God bless you.

    • @iwasjustintrance
      @iwasjustintrance Год назад

      @@user-wu5vs3xx6f There's a lot here, and you use a lot of big words. You'd have to define "neocolonialism" in this context for me because I'm not quite sure I understand. Although, when it comes to capitalism, many people who deconstruct or leave religion are actually very ANTI-capitalists (personally, I find it to be a flawed system yet a useful and necessary evil but that's another story). Perhaps you assume that you couldn't have strong social systems and robust communities outside of religion? Or value those things? This is mistaken. You set up a false dichotomy between capitalism and religion. Religion doesn't have a corner on the market when it comes to connection, community, meaning, and purpose. Yes, perhaps in our evolutionary history religion was necessary for those things. And yes, religion can provide some value through having robust communities and strong social systems - but we've evolved since then and no longer need (harmful) religious dogma and clergy for those things in modern society. But I agree with you that religious values and experiences ARE at odds with modernism.. . In fact, you are likely viewing your Catholicism through the lens of modernism because, as you've stated, we passively absorb these ideologies living in the West. And so if you like things like democracy, human rights and human dignity, not owning slaves, scientific inquiry and technological advancements, freedom of speech and religion, then welcome to modernism (not religion). So if anything, religion is the one that has ties with colonialism.

    As someone who is raised as a Mexican Catholic in the US, I never saw how problamatic religion is until 2020. That was my personal breaking point because I noticed the "why" behind certain believes. It didn't seem spiritual, but rather political. I didn't think anyone else was going through religious deconstruction because that sort of thing is frowned upon among Christians. I'm currenlty an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, and am still a practicing Catholic. Because of my background, I felt like I couldn't be either. By being Catholic, I would betray the community, but by suppoorting the LGBTQ, I was "offending" God. It wasn't until I "ripped the bandaid" in my college art class where things started to get better. I got invited to join the LGBTQ+ club on campus, and am grateful to have that space to explore and learn more about the community. I learned that I can be both. When listening to this, I was surprised to see the simarlies when it came to the election and how we voiced our supports. I was afraid to voice out on social media, but after that experience in college, I didn't have anything to lose. I have a close circle of friends who stuck by me, and I'm aware that I'm very fortunate in that circumstance. I guess as a whole, I'd view myself as a "Liberal Catholic". When leaving the church for a bit, that's when I began to feel genuine happiness and grow closer to God because it wasn't a choke hold but rather authenticity. My belief in the faith is more love people as God's creations and to spread the gospel through good deeds. I believe that God is loving and wants that love to be shared. I disagree with all the hate and discrimination popularized by the religious right. People should make decisions, people should learn. We shouldn't shun, nor harass, but rather comfort and support. If God is truth, than the truth will stand. There's no need of masking or denying research and studies, why hide from the truth if you believe that through God all things are possible? We're all free to believe in what we want to believe, explore what we want to explore, and learn from our actions when it comes to understand the consequences. Life is not a straight line, it's what we make of it. The more we put into it, the more we get out of it. I don't know if this story will mean anything to anyone, but I'm just happy to know that I'm not alone in feeling this way. You are loved, even when you feel like you're surround by hate. There's more voices outside our small circles, so let's not be afraid to explore outside of them.

If my religious trauma can be broken down into a series of activities (i.e. body posture, specific thoughts, breathing patterns, physiological sensations, etc.) that I am doing either consciously or unconsciously, then I can begin to intentionally make these processes more conscious and change the series of activities. But I can see how I didn't communicate this clearly or effectively.

      @@iwasjustintrance Well I appreciate that my criticism came off as constructive and helpful in some way! I was... not in the best state of mind after having had a rather... heated conversation IRL. So, thank you for taking it in such a positive way and I can definitely see where you're coming from now. I hope you all the best, you're doing good work out here, I think!

    Just before you die, you realize there's a heaven or he'll. You realize there is God and the Adversary, you will call on one or the other I assure you. We did not create ourselves nor can we prevent ourselves from death. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man yet it ends up being eternal death. Choose life. There is a true and living God. He is Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end 🙏🏽
