Found this video many years ago when I got my Cold Steel Trailmaster and a RiverCitySheath. This video popped up in my video feed today, so I watched it again. This is a very informative, and thoughtfully made presentation on the carry method(and more) of a large knife. I got more out of this video on my recent viewing than I did the first time all those years ago. (Wisdom is funny like that.) Well done, Sir. Thank you for taking the time to create it.

Hey Robin, I found your channel on Florida Concealed Carry forum and you mentioned you were trained in h2h and knife skills at Mitchel Werbell's SIONICS academy under Jason Lau. I'm currently training under him in Atlanta, GA.

I was thinking about the difference between kydex and leather for this application. I like kydex better because it won’t bend or twist with age like leather can do. I had this sheath made for my Prather War Bowie three years ago and have enjoyed it immensely. Have me needed it for self defense, but it comes out fast when someone asks if I can cut something. The look on their face is worth more than the cost of a sheath. 😎

Thanks for sharing. I carry and draw a 7” bladed dagger daily like this, tho w OWB snap loops rather than the stud. I find that the double snap loops keep it stable and from falling forward while standing or backwards while sitting so that the hilt does not stick out and “tent” my shirt or jacket I am over 6’ tall, sorta slim, have a relatively short torso, and i cant seem to conceal one bigger than this well. I have to keep it high enough so i can sit w/o it coming up. This also keep my pant leg from making the hilt pivot back n forth while walking

My favorite big knife carry is my Randall No.1 that my uncle carried through three tours in Vietnam. It not only has a lot of history, it is a very well made and balanced knife. I had a lwather IWB sheath made for it and don't leave home without it. I usually carry my Tops Moccasin Ranger along with it either on my weak side or in my weak side boot.

How does this work when getting in and out of cars?

This is my 2nd favorite way to carry a large bowie knife. Scout carry being my 1st choice since I prefer horizontal quickdraw in reverse grip.

came here from mike glover pod cast with henry l dick thompson he discribed this technique. he learned it in spec ops training before he went to vietnam he is a mac v sog. i am delighted to se it is truly practicle as shown in this video! he said they used to shoot quarter sized targets with car-15 with this technique!

Thanks. You advocate the back cut. I would like to see that tested as well. Also a cut at 45 degree angle away from the elbow and towards the elbow.

Having a knife of this caliber on hand, this fast, is impressive. Stopping an edged weapon attack by shooting someone, of course, works, but even center mass hits with most duty caliber handguns take time to work and do nothing to parry or control incoming weapons. Sometimes taking the hand could prove faster and more definitive. This all only applies within certain distance. I'd say approximately 3 to 4 yards would be your max optimal window. Of course I'm no expert, just thinking out loud. 🤔

That's a nice bowie you have there.I had a hells belle years ago with a leather sheath I think kydex is better too I assume you're in arizona and that state legally allows you to carry a bowie ? Im jealous.

Mr. Brown is the REAL DEAL. His brief videos are invaluable, it probably would cost many thousands to have an actual coarse study with him, but he’s kind enough to share with the masses for free. I feel he is on par with Jeff Cooper, but may likely surpass him, and at no cost thru the very concise videos. A real 21st century warrior. Salutations to you sir.

I carry like that, but my sheath is canvas (what came with the blade), I just stick it on my underwear like a Mexican carry. Strong side. Works fine

Do some breathing practices big man, nothing wrong with the breathing in the background but it might do some good for you

I remember this exercise very well from basic training in the Fall of 1967 at Fort Jackson, SC. I am currently searching for one of those adult size BB rifles. As I recall, the ones we used were fitted with wooden stocks with the same or nearly the same length of pull as the M-14. It was fun and surprised me as to the resulting accuracy.

I usually carry in a pocket holster in the front pocket. It works fine for cargo shorts, but sometimes the holster wants to come out with it. For jeans front pocket, I've been concerned about the draw being too slow. I take walks daily and I've been approached by a couple of guys who made me uncomfortable. A 3 second draw would be too slow and you can't stage your draw without them seeing it. Today I figured out this back pocket carry method. The draw is about 1 second. Maybe faster then front carry. The grip sticks out over the pocket and I'm wearing a flannel shirt. This is such a better way to carry for quick access. I'm not sure about sitting on the gun, but I will be playing around with the idea for everyday carry.

great tutorial, been considering back pocket carry, but I cringe at your hand over the muzzle when you apply the napkins.

Nice shooting. I rarely aim, and only when "dialing in" do I focus on the sights as a whole. I just look at the target and my brain does the rest. You think David was shooting instinctively when he felled Goliath? I certainly do.

Something tells me that wind, drag, muzzle velocity, and drop was not calculated into this 100 yard equation 😭🤣 but nice shooting Rambo

Hey Robin I can’t own firearm in my state - I feel life a need to prep 4 Zombie Apoc: and protect fam etc ... what air/pellet/pepper/rubber ball etc Airgun recommended if can only get 1x per category & best bang 4 the buck ;) Short range: 1x Pistol = Long range: 1x rifle = Prob Semi auto & enuf 🛑 power for home defense types , right ? Also Recommend Ie pistol cross-bow etc in addition to or instead of above ?? If so which make/model pls ? Any other Ie knives , spears, stars, sais, hatchets,sling shots etc..? And any other survival prep recommendations etc = 🙏

I think the hardest thing for me to learn when doing the reverse 180° was getting the timing correct for shifting the transmission.... The Forward U-Turn is easier in a car with a hand brake....Just remember HOLD the Thumb Button down on the Hand Brake lever...

If that cylinder does happen to turn while grabbing, you are just going to have a knarly looking wrist left. I'm not mad at your tactics, just let people know the repercussions of failing in this situation.

Lucky and my dad wrote the book secrets to shooting the army took instinct shooting and called it quick kill but I'm glad to see it still being used under any name

Ive learned the skill of not aiming down the sight and still being able to shoot a sparrow at 60 feet and i can shoot a tooth pick about 10 feet

Now move the targets a foot or so between shots. Wider, narrower, left, right. Maybe balloons on varying lengths of string on a breezy day. Ir tied to an RC car. Something not static.
