Thank you for broaching the topic of gentail cutting. It is absolutely a double standard to accept the cutting of boys but not of girls. The claim made against this was that the former has medical benefits backed by scientific research and a religious argument whereas the latter has neither. First there is no compelling medical benefit of cutting irrespective of gender. Research has been conducted purportedly demonstrating such benefits however these have been conducted by cut men or those from cutting communities with the express motivation to defend the practice. In ordr to claim real scientific evidence would require independent scientists being able to confirm such research and that hasn't been the case. In fact independent researchers have shown just the opposite as might be intuitively thought - the divine/evoluton doesn't create bodyparts by mistake! There has been no reseacrh at all showing benefits for boys which are absent for girls and again intuitively it makes little sense that cutting a healthy boy's genitalia should be any more or less healthy than doing the same to a healthy girl. Nobody would suggest cutting a boy in his chest would be healthy while cutting a girl's is unhealthy, it makes no sense. If cutting parts of a boy makes him cleaner then why wouldn't doing the same to a girl? Again no scientific research has shown cut boys are cleaner and it is bodyshaming the male body to even suggest it. Second the argument is that it is not religious for girls because it is not in the Koran only in the Hadiths however the same is true for boys and this is conveniently ignored. However when it comes to human rights which are also correctly mentioned, religion is not grounds for exception anyway. The real argument is therefore neither medical nor religious but one of basic human rights, the right to one's own body. The reason this is mentioned more as an afterthought is of course because it applies irrespective of gender. Even if it could be shown there was some health benefit of cutting it still would not be enough to outweigh the violation of human rights. For example take the case of a baby girl who has a very strong genetic disposition for breast cancer. It would be a significant health benefit for her to have her breastbuds cut however this would still not be enough to justify the violation of bodily integrity. Rather such a decision would be deferred until she was an adult and capable of making that choice herself as Angelina Jolie did and with no suggestion that her parents should have taken that decision for her. Therefore a child should not be cut but be allowed to make that decision as a fully informed adult irrespective of gender. Incidently when that does happen, as is thankfully the case for most people, far more women choose to be cut than men. There is no difference when it comes to medical surgeries on this part of the body as in other parts, there is nothing magical about females that thsi part never requires it! In fact it is far more common for women to require it than men. Cutting boys is taught in medical schools only in those communities that practice it as a cultural practice and where it has been medicalised, there is no reason why the same shouldn't be true for girls. Indeed it has become medicalised for them too thanks to Western inspiration and demonstrating the support the cutting of girls gets from the cutting of boys. There are plenty of medical procedures involving surgery on this part of the female body. The short and longterm health risks are almost identical for boys as with girls and as might be expected when cutting flesh. It may surprise some but boys bleed and feel pain when cut the same way as girls do. Although public hospitals may not offer the ritual the privat ones do and your Islamic religious authority has stated that it is mandatory for Muslim girls as it is for boys. Again conveniently left out. This is really a sad attempt at constructing a false distinction.
