🔹1928🔹 was the year my 30-30 Winchester was made. Back in 1964,when I was 14 ..... a farmer walked into my grandpa's Gun Store in the Adirondacks of NY and sold that there 30-30 for $15 After he walked out I bought the rifle for $15 ~ and it became my daily shooter for hunting rogue woodchucks. All of the woodchucks were one-shot kills 💥 Some 60 years later I still have the rifle and it shoots just fine ! New Subscriber here in Florida 🌴 PS ~ I absolutely loved the interview with your father-in-law ! I rarely,if ever, have seen such an interview on RUclips ! 28 SEP 2024 Trivia ~ My grandpa was an Olympic Pistol Shooter .... won the NY State Pistol Champioship for 7 consecutive years ... then he won the US Pistol Championship in 1933. My dad was his gunsmith / re-loader and driver to the gun matches ie Camp Perry Ohio. I started shooting at 11 with the YMCA of all places .... Boy Scouts at 12 ..... and was the Treasurer of my high school gun club at 14. My sons are both Firefighters 🚒🚒 with the oldest also working as a SWAT Medic 💥who happens to be one of their best shooters ~ taught by his dad 😊

My first deer rifle was a pre 64 Win mod 94 my dad bought me. I am 64 yrs old now and own 4 , 30-30's , 3 marlins , one win, and a win .32 spl , I own several other lever guns, but the Win mod 94 has always been my favorite ! We were all trained and taught differently, but I was taught to load and put on safety because of noise and why would there be a safety and not use it ?

Removing the trigger adjustment spring will net a 1 lb trigger pull. Mine groups fairly well after I installed a Harrell's tuner. OTOH not nearly as good as my CZ 457 Varmint.

Cool video!! A few things I’ve learned over the last 40 years of marksmanship. First…never ever pull the trigger, the more you pull it, the more you’ll pull the shot. Always squeeze it, muscle memory is so important with this. Understand the weight it takes for that trigger to break, get a dummy round and practice squeezing it over and over. I’ve spent hours just doing this, I close my eyes and can feel when it breaks. When I’m at the range knowing when the trigger breaks is so helpful when it comes to breathing and even your heartbeat at times at long distances. You’ll be able to time it in between beats and breaths. Second, take some time to understand ballistics with the particular round you’re shooting and learn what it does and when, when it begins to drop, when it begins to drift and how the wind effects it based on grains and feet per second. And third, learn what a good trigger like a Timney for that particular rifle and a good barrel can do for consistency which is the main goal. And forth, be safe and have fun!! “A rifle is only as good as the scope, the scope is only as good as the trigger, the trigger is only as good as the marksman, and the marksman is only as good as the rifle.” It’s all a full circle, just like life itself.

My first rifle was a 1962 model 94. I bought it new and hunted for 2 years with it. It was horribly inaccurate and prone to malfunction. My grandfather gave me his old rifle that was marked 30 govt 06. I recently gave it to my grandson. I sold the model 94 after 3 years. No regrets.
