    This is why some state agencies cannot get good recruits! Local agencies can produce damned fine well-disciplined and physically honed officers without going through this militaristic nonsense. Why would I subject myself to this when I can get more pay and better training elsewhere? I speak from 30 years on the job including being in a command staff.

      Because they are big dawgs. Police officers can possibly have back up in seconds but a trooper must handle his own for minutes at a time until someone else shows up. You should know this, nothing personal. So their standard is going to be higher than local LE, and they literally have to hold their own until the Calvary arrives.

    Hard to believe some of these got accepted, being in such poor physical shape... At the time of my application years ago I scored the highest of many applicants on both the written and physical ability tests and ended up as an "alternate" that didn't get called up. Don't know about now, but politics played a role in who was accepted then. And yes, I eventually could have gotten in, but I'd already established a solid career in another field and was a bit frustrated by MHP's initial selection process, but I certainly have the utmost respect for all who have made it through this tortuous and well-respected school.

    So I am told that this class was criticized for being a bit excessive. They had 61 people drop, 7 go to the hospital, and 1 with kidney failure. Now call me a woss or not, but if I were a politician, I would push for a full investigation and possible reprimand and possible reform in response to this and what I see

    Well I've been in the military LE and this is way over the top. There's little question that this illustrates excessive PT and perhaps hazing (i.e. the haircuts and deprivation of meals). In fact one cadet who was a controlled diabetic and needed just an extra snack was hazed, thrown out and successfully sued the state. What they are doing is definitely not necessary. You know it would be great to see one of those cadets help himself to some coffee while the TACS are concentrating on someone else, or just quietly say "Look there's no reason to scream like a tyrant I can hear you," if it didn't lead to getting signed out.

    • @kellyanderson7624
      @kellyanderson7624 2 года назад

      They weren't deprived of food. And they aren't going to sacrifice someone's health. They are yelled at because they want to make sure they can handle themselves in stressful situations and someone yelling in their face. You are COMPLETELY clueless, And you probably hate cops.

      Not everyone can become a Mississippi State Trooper. If it wasn’t harder than the other police academies then they would be no different than them. It’s not for the faint hearted. The tacs are just preparing them for what takes place on the highway

      No, they are testing and building their tolerance for stress, that way they don’t loose their head while dealing with a stressful situation. They are taught to keep their bearing and not be emotional.

  • @josephgilbert4702

    I'm really confused about this video. I've watched almost 3 hours of it. and for the life of me I don't understand really what the purpose of any of this is. I understand that it's necessary to invoke stress in the beginning however when you get into the program it should be about learning about policing and how everything operates in the Highway Patrol. This to me looks a little over the top and almost looks like abuse and hazing.

    • @mikeschumacher9715
      @mikeschumacher9715 4 года назад

      If you've ever been in a tremendous stressful situation, this is nothing. A mother at a traffic accident, where her child has been killed. A domestic with kids screaming, parents screaming. This is tame. Oklahoma Highway Patrol cadets are awakened at 3AM and told to change rooms with the cadets across the hall in 30 minutes. Furniture and all. Go on 7 mile runs with their shotguns at 2AM. Crazy but it builds and attitude you must have towards the work.

    • @stephenpope578
      @stephenpope578 3 года назад

      @@mikeschumacher9715 Its completely unnecessary. I've been in LE and the military and that hazing contributed zero towards being a competent LEO.

    I didn't know they signed up to be, and look like prisoners in a jail. I thought they were applying for a job with the Highway Patrol? I understand the need for this in the beginning. However, just continuing to do this sort of crap really serves no purpose at all. And they just look likes dicks for doing it to begin with.
