    Growing rare fruit in Zone 8b West Paso Robles Ca. Elevation 2000. I just notice this youtube video. I do grow some of the fruits mentioned in this video. 5 different varieties of lychee. 3 different varieties of Longan, White Sapote, 20+ varieties of Atemoya/Cherimoya, Kiwi/Kiwi berries, 8+ varieties of Pomelos, lime, key lime, Kieffer lime, Yuzu lime, 2 different varieties of finger lime, 3 different varieties of blood orange, 3 different varieties of loquat, Kumquats, 6+ varieties of Mandarin, Pakistanian Mulberry, 6 different varieties of Jujubes, 4 different varieties of persimmon, 6+ varieties of raspberry/black berries, 8+ varieties of blue berries, 10+ varieties of strawberry, 20+varieties of avocados, Some of those rare avocados variety purchased from Epicenter Nursery 2 year ago 😁and they're producing fruit this year. All kinds of stone fruits, 4 different varieties of purple/green asparagus, 2 different varieties of artichoke, apples, oranges, figs, 5+varieties of lemons, 2 different varieties of Pomegranate, 2 different varieties of Sapodilla in container, 2 different varieties of rare guava trees in container. I also do grafting & air layering & hand pollinating, 10 different varieties of olive trees, different varieties of Asian pears and American pears, strawberry guava, plus I also have Morels mushroom growing in my yard between my avocado trees. I wouldn't be surprised if I have Porcini growing in my yard. Will have to pay more attention to Porcini mushrooms. February 25, 2023 we had 3 days of snow. Nothing die. Even young newly planted avocado trees did not die or burn with no protection. Explant that. I have video to prove it. Plus we own a Vineyard & Organic Walnut. If I didn't have problem with gophers I wouldn't mind planting a dozen truffle trees. 😁🍷 I forgot to mention most of the fruit trees I mentioned here it's producing fruits.

    Interesting, I planted a couple of citrus seeds I found in a mandarin I was eating to grow as a bonsai tree and only one of them sprouted after a few weeks but with 4 individual plants with their own taproots so that means I have a chance at one of them being a clone? That is kind of cool.

    Hi Tom l planted a seedling which was six inches long and that was probably about 30 years a go and guess how long it took to fruit are you ready it took 26 years to flower and fruit but what a pity the fruit is not edible it is tiny and it’s got a dorsal side and a ventral like a cashews what a waste of 30 years . l planted a grated Ortega next to it at the same time from a friend you won’t believe me but that all so took the same time to fruit to it is un believable and the tree is tiny compèred to the seedling next to it the seedling is massive it is tall as a two story building l don’t no what to do it is just a waste of space in the old days you couldn’t find grafted specimens my Ortega is tiny fruit the size of a golf ball l would love to have a Macdill Walton rainbow all the best ones . Even my Annona custard apple trees seedlings next to it took about 20 years to flower but no fruit it was probably a planted from a store brought fruit which it probably was an African pride and they sold it to me as a Asimina tiloba an American paw paw l had so much bad luck . It is my favourite fruit you guys are spoiled there in California not like us in Melbourne Australia Tom make more Videos on different variety’s and species congratulations what a brilliant video

    It's always interesting to hear how people describe the tastes of different varieties. Freddie's description of Ettinger's flavor is spot on. Ettinger tastes like a watery Fuerte. A Fuerte/Zutano cross probably is the origin. If it isn't it sure tastes that way. Very nice video. Ellen and Freddie have always been generous with their information for Nor Cal avocado growing

    The Lemonade Citrus tree seems to be from New Zealand, we have them allover the place, my mothers uncle was growing them in the 50's here in New Zealand, they are said to grow pretty true from seed that seems to fit, as they grew most plants from seed back then, I have several trees grown from seed soon to fruit, they have dark colour on the young leaves and stems looks black at a glance bronze black purple up close, the stems colour then turns shades of brown with age and cold exposure. Lemonades are sold grafted to Trifoliata 3-4m tall or Flying Dragon growing to only 2m tall, plants fruit Jul and Aug yet can stay on the tree for a long time only getting sweeter. another New Zealand Heritage Citrus the Grapefruit 'Morrison's Seedless' was developed in NZ around 1860 by Mr Morrison from Warkworth Auckland. his is really quite an historical Grapefruit as it arrived in NZ from the Orient via Australia in the 1800's. The fruit was first grown by Sir George Grey in his orchard on Kawau Island and then developed further by Mr Morrison. The popular Grapefruit 'Golden Special' was in turn developed from 'Morrison's Seedless'.

      @@WebSurfingIsMyPastime Their depth of knowledge is in relation to what they sell. They can't know everything. Gary Matsuoka is a virtuoso with growing Brokaw avocado, in and around Laguna Hills Nursery - his store, where he wants you to buy his trees, potting soil, fertilizer, et cetera. But he wouldn't know much about those Sleepy Lizard avocados that are in Florida.

      @ocneal 6 месяцев назад

      @@chinatownboy7482 Gary is a friend and it wouldn’t surprise me that he studies Southern California avocados more than those in Florida. He sells in SoCal. Generally, they are different avocados than the West Indian types they might see more often in Florida. Same with NorCal where I’d suppose growers are more concerned with the colder temperatures than we have in Southern California. It’s good to get some diverse feedback from the diverse people to be able to compare & contrast.

    Great video and explanation on how to use it. The Gophinator works great! I used your suggestion on burying the gopher in the hole. The issue I had was racoons were digging them up causing me to refill the holes. I'm guessing the smell would cause them to dig at the same holes for days. So now I just throw them in the tree line for them to eat so they'll stop digging up my pasture.
