This is a different subspecies of Iberian Ibex. There are four subspecies, but the Pyrenean Ibex went extinct before this video was filmed.

Ha! As a guard way way back I worked the first oil train out of Furzebrook siding with a Bournemouth driver. Can't remember who though. The guard and driver were given a large colour photograph of the train leaving the siding. Worked it many times after that. 2x33's were a better deal than a 47.

Really pleased to hear that there was a corncrake there again. We heard one there, from the campsite all day and all night for a week or so in 1977 and were for over 3 weeks in 1978 and herad nothing. We were at the BMC Hut up the road for a month in 1979 for a month (as warden) and often walked down past that field but never heard it. Any later reports?

Its interesting how at Gill they extended the up side cripple siding to double what it is in the video whilst all that remains of the down side cripple siding is the buffer stops behind the signal box and about 3 ft of track. Towards Salisbury it is immensely wooded now and the locals call that alley that runs up from past the footbridge "dog poo alley" because locals just let their dogs void 'emselves making it a minefield at night to get through without that sinking feeling... You do occasionally see traffic parked on the up cripple, the occasional tamper. Ironically I used to service the Waterloo to Exeter trains when I was Waterloo's lampsman back in the eighties, never ever thought I would live alongside the line in darkest Dorset lol

If peeps want to save Gillingham signal box, I have heard the push is in to have it demolished on the ol' QT as unlikely sellable and has become redundant after the awful laying off of many staff who weren't lucky enough to be given a job at Basingstoke.
