Just re-watched Arrival yesterday and then I happened to start Prometheus today and the ships looked too me exactly alike! - not sure if this is a future connection or a budget savior (which would be really disappointing to do it on the cheap) - but last thing in Arrival the aliens said they would need Earth's ( or Human's) help in 3000 years - seems like a complex time span to link movies together (3 milleniums seems like a lot of gap time to draw audiences in) - but then again they plot of Arrival also included that time itself is a loop to point of time itself is pointless - 3000 years in Arrival could just as easily be 3 minutes later in another film. Personally not a big fan of time alteration plays introduced in Sci-Fis - seems like an easy cop out to good story telling narration to just say "it's just a time thing embrace it or you wouldn't understand" - seems more like "I just want to sell you movies and cheaply link them to blow your mind". But guess will have to see what happens in years of real time.

Just because they seem to be "similar", you can easily say then that all flying shaped saucers in movies since the 50s all belong to the same universe, people just like to connect things that doesn't even exist.

Not only are the ships very similar but the black goo canisters in Prometheus are identical to the pod that comes down to pick up Amy Adams in Arrival!!

I'm pretty sure they are connected, these guys with the flat round ships will be the creators in Paradise, in Colonial marines there's an Easter egg showing how the horseshoe ship crashed on LV426, it was shot down by a flat saucer shaped ship. What the octopus guys in arrival were talking about when the said they need our help in the future, it's to help stop the xenomorphs. Or mailnly the Engineers from spreading them. Then again I dunno where being able to see past present and future simultaneously fits in with the alien universe

what I find weird is that in the arrival, the aliens have the ability to talk by using solid matter (there hands) and turn it into liquid state to talk to the humans. Now in prometheus, the aliens have this vicious black liquid matter that kills... It looks like there is a connection. Hopefully the writers will come up with something!

Just rewatched Prometheus after arrival... whoa ... is there a connection?!

If you look at the Aliens ship footage, it goes into the clouds after he drops the bowl, it's got a flanged V shape to it, the other in Arrival has a flat edge on one side, so different ships.

I'm watching prometheus right now and I just remembered those ships in Arrival and the resemblance is spot on!

They probably want to reuse the same 3D models instead of hiring additional graphic designers. Or the graphic designer spent a really long time designing the textures and lighting properties of the 3D model, and then was angry that it was only used for a few seconds in the movie.
