Floating Spinnaker Takedown and Upwind Finish 7/ 3/ 24

We got a big boost from free flying the spinnaker at the leeward mark. Free flying allowed us to hold the spinnaker a few extra seconds. Fun race that actually turned into a match race between a J34c and a J80. Two very different boats but similar speed potential.

First downwind leg, spinnaker drop and mark rounding for the second upwind leg. We were missing our regular trimmer and mast person so we were improvising on the fly! Everyone did a fantastic job for the whole race!

The wind was from 28 knots to 8 knots! What genoa do you put up in those wind conditions? We went with the 110% genoa. As expected, it was good for about 3/4 of the race. Good enough though!

This cant be Rochester... I didn't see one can of Genny light.
Funny! You are right! Should be some Genny on board!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. The crew performance was impeccable, each knowing what to do and performing their duties with precision. You guys made flying the chute look easy. Another positive thing I noticed was no drastic turning of the helm....your steering was smooth and timely. Look, I'm no expert despite having raced for years.....I was reminded the importance of properly steering, calmly calling tacks, and allowing the crew to do what they do best. Oh, what i also noticed was how once the spinnaker was set, the crew sat down and were still....unneccessary walking around and standing slows the boat down....but I bet you know that. Great job!
Thank you for your kind words! I have a great crew! Everyone works together very well!
Got to love those starts!! Thanks for sharing.....enjoyed the video.
Thank you!
7 people with short sleeves and 1 in foul weather jacket. Someone is out of place.
Y'all work real well together.
Thank you!
Good job time keeper.
Thank you!
Well trained Crew!
I'm lucky to have such a great team!
Looks like a light wind race - you’re not healed over😂
Actually we were healed quite a bit. All you can see through the ports is water. The wind was 10 to12 knots most of the race.
Looks like you’re digging through a cloud
