Vintage Card Voyage

We're two longtime sports card collectors who want to share our voyage through the hobby, so we upload videos with a focus on vintage baseball cards, vintage football cards, and vintage basketball cards.
And the Card Grades Are? ...
We recently pre-graded some cards for Ken's friend Pete and now SGC has returned them, so we reveal the grades. How close were we in our predictions?

Thanks for sharing fellers.
You're welcome. We had a fun time with the process.
Great stuff guys!
Thanks so much, Lou.
Nice returns gents.
Appreciate it, Sammy.
Great video! I do agree that Frank Robinson is one of the most undervalued Hall of famers in the hobby for sure, and he is a tier one. Love the Fran Tarkenten card as well.
Yeah, don't really understand why Frank Robinson doesn't get more hobby love, but I guess he was just overshadowed during the '50s and '60s by guys like Mantle, Mays and Aaron and that feeling continues to carry over.
I don’t think there’s a card in here that I would kick out of my collection - excellent eye appeal all around! The centering on Schmidt/Brett/Yount particularly. Great stuff!
Agreed. It's a collection Pete should be proud of.
Fantastic content, very interesting. If both Ken and Mark started a grading company, I'd want to submit to Mark who seems more optimistic!
Glad you enjoyed it, Pete. We had fun looking at your cards and going through the process. And your second comment is why I (Marc) can occasionally get in trouble when submitting for grading.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for taking a look, Orlando.
Very generous! I love it
Thanks so much, Mookie.
Nice pick ups!
Very nice! Love sports and sports cards!
Hi Jason. Thanks for the comment. We'd love to send you this. Email us your address to vintagecardvoyage@gmail.com and we'll get it to you.
@@VintageCardVoyage Thank you! Email sent!
Awesome! Love to get some cards for my son age 13! We love collecting!
That’s very cool. I never seen that before.
Hey Lou. Since you were the first person to respond, we'd love to send you this. Feel free to send your address to vintagecardvoyage@gmail.com and we'll get it to you.
Edwin Diaz needs to keep saving games to become a better #39 than the Cobra… no chance! Haha fun episode
Apparently he'll need to get in the Hall of Fame, too.
Those cards look good in a tux.
Nice collection. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I dont collect cards but the history is super cool. This was an awesome video and i enjoyed seeing what their other job was
Thanks so much for the kind words. I thought it was fascinating to find out what types of jobs Major League baseball players decided to do back then, when the game didn’t pay what it does now.
Great insight and recap! Congratulations on a productive show!
I’m glad you a nice time at the show.
Thanks for the recap Ken. Glad to hear you had a good time 👍👍
The pitcher with the most pitching victories after the age of 40 is Phil Niekro (121). Jamie Moyer is next (105). And Nolan Ryan is 7th on the list (71).
I did think of Moyer because he pitched for so many years, but for whatever reason, Niekro didn't come to mind. Appreciate the info!
This was a great, thorough discussion about hobby life from the seller perspective. Well done all around!
Really appreciate it and we very much enjoyed chatting with Garrett.
Great discussion! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, and thanks so much for watching.
Great breakdown, not sure who I favor but they love putting people in just after they die for some reason. Tiant is on record has having said, "If you want to elect me after I'm dead, don't bother." We'll see I guess.
Hadn't heard that quote before. It's quite a statement.
Gary is among the best in the biz to deal with. Quite a few of my fav cards in the collection came from him.
For vintage cards, people have been ranking in this order. National > Philly Show > Strongsville >= Chantilly. I haven’t been to Burbank yet and hear Dallas is very modern.
Surprised that Strongsville isn't closer to the top. Hopefully will have the chance to find out what it's like one of these years.
Nice set and yes I’m putting this set together and have 12 of 66 already plus have the Wilt Chamberlain is a PSA 5 so I’m going to have them all in PSA slabs plus in the 4 to 7 grade range
Excellent. That should be a very nice set.
For the record: Molitor 3319 hits, Trammell 2365 hits, Washington 703 hits, Klutts 129 for a grand total of 6,516 hits!
Great video. I just got the '70 Thurman Munson in PSA 3.5 in the mail today. I got it for under $50.
Thank you for the kind words, and that's a very nice pickup.
Great video
Thanks so much, and thank you for watching.
Great video. I just pick up the Frank Robinson Rookie at the National.
Thanks so much for the kind words, and congrats on the pickup.
thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it.
Those 1950’s Calhoun cards you mention are pretty cool. I thought about getting a few of them since they seem to be an affordable set of cards.
And getting cards from the 1950s that are affordable is never a bad thing.
I may be wrong - but what I hear you describing is a slump specifically related to acquiring new cards… Which I can totally relate to! But I would say that there are several other facets to a collecting journey that I focus on when purchasing is slow (or non-existent). I use those quiet times to organize and work on displaying my collection. I also use it to inventory and think critically about the cards I do own … and why I own them. Should I consolidate funds by selling cards? I never stop buying undervalued cards that I can turn into extra funds. And I also love consuming content about cards thru conversation with friends and thru hobby media. All of this helps fill the voids when I’m not in acquisition mode, and helps sustain my interest in the hobby!
@mookiechillson thank you for your thoughts, you have great advice. I have also used the Quiet times to think about my collection, to step back and organize, sell things I don't really need/want, and to refocus. I will do that again now. My Grail list had been shrinking, but I can build a new one.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing
Thanks for the kind words, Orlando.
I love the graphic to start - you two have a great collecting relationship to be able to pick each other’s set build! Excellent and diverse pickups at the end! The Japanese movie tickets particularly were a revelation. I’ll have a new pickup video coming soon - but I got a 1962 Menko Larry Doby from his short tenure in Japanese baseball!
Thanks so much, Mookie, and looking forward to your pickup video. And I (Marc) had no idea Larry Doby played Japanese baseball. Clearly still learning things about baseball history!
That's a neat idea.
Thanks. We thought it would be fun.
I don’t set build anymore, but wish y’all the best on the hunt. I think a fun one is the 68 Topps Game.
Thanks for the suggestion and the well wishes, Sammy.
Great VR and love those goal cards!
Thanks, Mark, and hopefully both of us will be able to report back within a year about successful purchases.
Great cards and video. SGC is so consistent. Anyway, glad I found your channel and just subscribed. Look forward to future videos!
Thanks so much, and thank you for subscribing! We really appreciate it.
That's so nice of you to do a VR.
Thanks. It was an accomplishment worth celebrating and taking part in.
Great VR! Thanks for making it!! The 54T Kaline and 57T Russell are super cards! Looking forward to seeing them when you pick them up! Great shoutouts!!
Thanks so much, Darren, and congratulations again on the great accomplishment!
I’m all in on this game. I have a a few aborted versions of videos trying to do this, but it seems more fun with multiple people playing. 😅
Yeah, it's a fun game, and maybe we'll return to it at some point.
FYI i did sell 3 upper deck high # boxed sets at a recent yard sale. The key is pricing them at 5 bucks each.
The price point certainly does help.
Lol Dennys holograms… I forgot about those! 👍
Here's a fun article discussing them: sabrbaseballcards.blog/2020/05/17/1997-dennys-the-most-ambitious-set-ever/
That conference room gives me PTSD from old work meetings😂🥺😩🤓
Hopefully that's not the case for too many other people or we may need to consider relocating or a green screen.
@@VintageCardVoyage I keep meaning to really see what results I can get using the iPhone and doing a Green screen backdrop… soon.
I’m so far behind on responses to other collectors.😢 I guess I have too many cards left in my want list… but only to complete sets. That Bill Russell, and the Mikan are on my list, but not enough $ for either😢
Yeah, the availability of funds is definitely a determining factor.
Thanks for the shout out! And I see you’re on your way to 100 subs. Congrats!
Thanks so much, Lou. It's been a fun journey so far.
Great video response, thanks for sharing
Thanks so much, Orlando.
Hey thanks for the shoutout, and appreciated your analysis!
Thanks so much for checking out the video. We really appreciate it.
We goto local card show every month (50 tables) and been to national this year which is another animal. Prices on cards in display case are very nice. I prefer not asking if not possible. We love value boxes and ones clearly priced. If you have more than one value box of different prices separate them or color code them stickers. Look forward to the follow up video of how it goes.
That's great advice regarding value boxes. Thanks so much. We'll likely have some ourselves, so being clear with pricing will help.
