    Curious how much of this is usually covered by a big six publisher with a new author that they really believe in. Would you say a $10,000 budget? Less? How much would they recommend the author do on their own? I've been published by an indie imprint and found 100% of the marketing costs and efforts came down to me.

    Missed opportunity with A Game of Thrones to explore how later books use creative titles like "The Turncloak" or "The blind girl" add mystery because you're curious to what character it is or how the title will play out. It also reveals how the character thinks of themselves. You mention ASOIAF frequently but tend to miss out on many aspects I've noticed so trying to add more info here.

    If someone is published traditionally can they still do these things? Would the publisher do them for you? Would you need permission from your publisher to do some of these?

    • @Bookfox
      @Bookfox 4 часа назад

      You can do some of them, not all of them. For instance, you can't do Bookbub because that requires a sale price of $.99 cents, and the publisher controls the price. Unless you're the lead title for your publisher, they're going to do a minimal amount of marketing.

    I've completed (mostly, still one course that is relevant to go) Bookfox academy. It might be the single best investment I've made in my young writing career. I highly recommend. (this is unsolicited) Of course a lot of the stuff John gives away for free on RUclips, but for the money, to have it organized without having to go find it has been well worth the price.

    I am Huzaifa and I' am playing for a Futbol' academy my Nationality is Spain and pray for me that I would qualify for playing for Spain national U-20 Futbol' if I qualifies I will be playing in Spanish U-20 national nation's league after that I will be selected for the Spanish national team And after sometime I will be playing for Real Madrid. I am not sure that it will really happen in real life situations but if you all raise your all voices and give me some support/supplies than I will be able to play for these teams. Thanks for your support I have came to a signpost and I am giving Signature and immediately just a moment later I have qualified for Spanish national U-20 national nation's league but sadly the coach Saying signing you cost us nothing "You are 17 years old," you should not be here but it happened again and again everyday was the same but one day it happened when I was playing a match for Spanish national team when I scored a brace my coach was so happy that he even maded me the team captain and he bought the captain arm band for me so that I could wear it I was so happy. Afterwards when my coach was interested in interviewing He was asked by the commentator that what do you think about this 17 years old my coach said he scores brace a hatrick or either a poker he said no one is even close to and he said I am so glad for seeing him in This life situations it was so unreal that no one will believe. My Coach exclaimed.

    This sounds like a list of attributes, and you list some good examples, but all those examples are done in service to the plot. These attributes alone won't add to the character, if those attributes ultimately don't add anything

    There is a big difference between the author trying to be funny or the author trying to make a character say or do funny things. I try to write realistic stories (at least as realistic as it can be in the world I built), and this rules out any type of absurd humor like e.g. in Hitchhiker's Guide or the Airplane! movie and limits humor mostly to dialogue.

    I think writing in present tense is normal/more common in certain genres. If you write YA or New Adult, a lot of those readers prefer present tense.

    I don't use suddenly but sometimes as a reader I wish it was there because I may gloss over that sudden moment of action and not notice until I hit the next paragraph. Suddenly is a marker in that situation, kind of like a dialog tag, letting readers know something important just happened.

    I'm sure 'said' goes without saying. With the exception of in dialogue. I've cringed reading published authors who used it as punctuation after each line of dialogue. Give me a descriptive verb. Whispered, stuttered, shouted, screamed, spat.
