R u still in Rwanda?
I'm eagerly looking forward to hike this Trail, thank you so much for the update ❤
Hey, nice video. I'm traveling to rwanda soon and also will be hiking on the congo nile trail from Gisenyi to Kinunu or Bumba. I've got some questions and it would be nice if you could answer them. How did you manage water and food while on the trail, could you buy bottled water at the lodges or somewhere else? What kind of map did you use? Thanks in advance.
Hi there, we had breakfast + dinner at the guesthouses where we stayed. You can also get lunch there when you arrive (might need to wait a bit until it's ready though), but we just skipped it as we brought our own snacks. We bought water at the guesthouses too. If you're going in August/dry season, it may be hotter and sunnier, so I'd recommend carrying extra water. Just make sure to bring enough cash/MoMo as cards aren't accepted at most guesthouses. We used the maps.me app (free version) - we sometimes ended up on the biking trail, but overall it was very reliable. Have a great time on the trail!! :)
@@viktoriajuliet Thanks for the answer. It took away the irrational fear from me that there would be no bottled water, even if it's somehow logical that they would be selling it at the guest houses. I read in guides about the usage of mobile money. Since I am not very experienced with it, is the app specifically called "MoMo" or can you use just any App for mobile money? Do you know whether they take only the rwanda-franc in cash or do they also accept well known currencies like euro and dollar?
@@pizzastuck4082 My pleasure! I do remember that we sometimes got the last bottles at the guesthouses, so ideally let them know how much water you'd like for the next day when you get there. You need to get a local SIM card (e.g., MTN) to use MoMo, I never used the app, you can just add money to a wallet linked to a local phone number. If you don't need to get a local number, I'd recommend just bringing cash or using worldremit which doesn't give you the best exchange rate, but is convenient and reliable. Some places might accept USD, but you should message the guesthouses about this in advance to double-check and I'm guessing that the RWF rate is better :)
Anything hiking, am subscribing
Thank you for this wonderful video! My friends and I are hoping to hike part of the trail in a few weeks, I was just wondering if you have any recommendations on organising accommodation?
aww you'll have a great time! I messaged them on WhatsApp a few days before staying with them but you can also just show up. We stayed at the guesthouses but I think some villages might have fancier accommodation too. Here are the phone numbers of the places where we stayed: Cyimbiri (+250 788 214 900); Kinunu (+250 790 005 481); Bumba (+250 783 171 757)
Thank you so much!
Gorgeous filming guys, panoramic views are out of this world! Bravo 👏👏
Was sooo moved by this journey. What an enriching experience, incredible scenery and a wonderful friendship. Love you Vicky. Xxx
So beautiful! I have been to Kigali 6 years ago but I wasn't into hiking that much. Think I am gonna come back now to hit the trail. Great hiking vlog Vicky!
its a very nice walk over hallands åsnen
Well you guys just made the GR20 look like a walk in the park. Great spirit and attitude. Did you have to pack food or was there always somewhere to eat along the way? Also wondering if it’s only tenting or can you occasionally get a bed?
Haha, yes we had a great time! We did pack some food and stocked up at the huts here and there along the way (and then there's a slightly bigger shop halfway in Vizzavona) to prepare our own lunches. (We did lots of cold soaking and brought a number of clif bars). We usually had breakfast and dinner at the huts, it's nice to get a big warm meal at the end of a long day of hiking, so I would recommend this. You can book a bed at the huts (or hire a tent if you don't want to carry one), but this means planning/booking those overnight stays in advance. We felt that carrying our own tent gave us the flexibility to e.g. do 2 stages in 1 day when we felt like it. Hope this helps!
Super nice video :))
Awesome job guys 👍. I'm hoping to do the 20 next year. What season rating sleeping bags did you use please?
Thank youu, you'll have a great time! We both have quite old sleeping bags, 9°C comf temp and 5°C limit temp, maybe for new sleeping bags that temp would be fine, but I would recommend getting something slightly warmer
❤❤❤❤❤
Love this. My husband and I are going, walk day August 30. We’re not in the EU and I’m kind of freaking out about the train transportation. I fly into Munich? How easy is it to get that same train.
How exciting, you'll have an amazing time! You can take a train from Munich, change in Fortezza/Franzensfeste and continue to Villabassa-Braies/Niederdorf-Prags (it's about a 5h journey I'd say) and then we took a bus to the starting point (although I'm sure there are also taxis).
Hi I just did part of this walk in october and your happy smiling version of it stirred wonderful memories. So thank you for this and bringing a smile to my face with your attitudes. Not sure if you already passed lagazuoi on your second (extremely fast) or third day (very fast) but you are definitely much fitter than i I am a 56 old american guy who hiked for 5 days starting in cortina, up to rifugio seekofel and i think same route as yourselves to lagazuoi. I then followed road and paths back to cortina. It was wonderful. David Portland, OR, usa
