Throwing poop baits to catch late summer bass.
Late summer fishing is some of the hardest down here in Florida, and when you have to drag around soft plastics to get bit, sometimes it pays to show the bass something different.

Hitting up Teneroc yet again for some dog days of summer fishing.

My Sunday summer ritual continues. In the midst of summer and we have a hot still day, I make the trek over to the Lakeland area and hit up a new lake at the Teneroc Public Use Area.

#shorts #workingclasszero #swimbaitfishing #fishingflorida This is nothing new. If you fish, you have probably hooked something you didn't mean to or had an unwanted animal chase your bait. I have had multiple owls swoop out of a tree for a topwater, one seagull dove down and grabbed my jerkbait, and many ospreys have been attracted to the large meal my big swimbaits represent. Checking out Greenwood Lake before the workday begins.

I was working in the Lake Mary area and had a couple hours before I had to be at work, so I decided to get up early and fish at Greenwood Lake for the first time in a few years. It's a small finger-style lake with a public boat ramp tucked back in a residential area. I have caught some smaller bass here in the past but given its the middle of summer I wasn't expecting a whole lot of activity.
Punching literal trash mats with the Tokyo rig.

Generally, a rig I use to fish the depths, but today I wandered up shallow and use it to punch the loose eelgrass/trash mats that have formed over the course of the summer. Not sure I would go to this rig for punching heavy cover, but it worked great for this.

Messing around with the Imakatsu Kujala. Getting bites in tough conditions.
Просмотров 11821 день назад
The Imakatsu Kujala is a very odd JDM bait from a brand I appreciate that always seems to think outside the box. Imagination is the only limitation given the myriad of rigging options possible. I only scratch the surface of ways to get bit using this bait.
Evergreen Combat Rat catches some nice bass, and myself.

The right conditions lined up, so it was time to test drive my first topwater rat. The rat baits can get a bit pricey, so I had not gotten my hands on one until this guy came out. It is a great waking rat at any speed, and it walks great if you want to twitch it in place.
Can't beat a topwater frog blowup.

Summertime finesse swimbait fail. Losing my only bite of the day.
Просмотров 3642 месяца назад
My only bite on this windy day, and I am throwing small finesse swimbaits with an underspin. When I finally get bit I don't think much of it until a 4 pounder jumps out of the lake and throws my bait. You win some, you lose some. 4 pound largemouth are much harder to come by in the mid to late stages of summer, so this one stings quite a lot.

Reminds me of the time I lipped a 26lb. Striped Bass way too soon, from a float tube. It hit a 9 inch suspending Strike Pro jerkbait, and as I was attempting to remove the hooks in order to release it, it shook its head and the last treble just barely caught me on one of my finger pads. Though the barb just barely hadn't gone passed the skin initially, as I carefully tried to pull it out the striper started doing death rolls, like an alligator does when it has something large that it is trying to drown. Of course that barb almost went through my finger because of it. The only thing I could do was to lift it completely out of the water and hold it down on my lap. Since it was so big and still fresh, because I brought it in so quickly where the depth was only about 20 ft and I was afraid id lose it or break my line, I had to literally fold it in half to get control over it. Because I was pretty sure there were nerves involved, I had to go to the ER to get the Treble hook removed from my finger. Ive been using lip grippers ever since LOL!

Before that, I was throwing big glides there and had a lot of luck. I will be back at it once the weather cools and the water clears up. The eelgrass has been making a strong comeback, so hopefully over the next few years we get some hydrilla migrating from the back section and water clarity will rebound. That was a big key to my success for those couple of years because the big glides are such a visual presentation.

Clearly you don’t respect the no boat launching signs around the lake.

The signs specifically say no boat launching, and they have a picture of a boat on them. Motor, trailer and all. So, it's not really an issue of respect, since I am in a kayak I don't think they apply to me.
