We wanted to do this trek for a very long time. Some reason or the other prevented us from doing so. Finally this year we did it. The trek is about 110 km long. We crossed two passes, Thamsar Pass at about 15,750ft and Kalaheni Pass at about 16,000ft. The trek took us 12 days, 11 walking days and one day of rest at Bara Bangal Village. The route is available on most apps and its depiction is re...

A trek to Kuari Pass Via the Old Curzon Trail. In my opinion a better trek than the short one which starts and ends in Joshimath. On reaching Tapovan near Joshimath, we took a jeep to Jumma, the road head for Dunagiri Village and Trekked to Bagini Glacier. The highlight was the antics by a pair of Himalayan Cevits on the roof tops of the deserted village of Dunagiri.

Hi, the generic costs are : Travel to Munsiari (bus / personal car). Food on trek at about 400 per day per person, Guide 2000-2500 per day, porters locals 1200 per day, Nepali porters 800-1000 per day. Mules go on this route they cost about 1000 per day. Porters carry about 25kg, mules about 40-50kg. You will need to hire tents, kitchen utensils, gas cylinders and stoves etc. It may be easier to contact a trekking company and get a quote and then customizer it to your requirements. In general expect to pay about 3500-4000 per day.

Climbers like Smythe , Tilman and Shipton were of another order. Smythe's performance on the north side of everest is one lesser know event. Tilman is a true hero. Incomparable on many fronts. I read Kamet conquered before we went there and kept imagining them doing the same nearly a century ago. What an effort with no satellite imagery and maps etc.

After completing AMC, I suggest you climb 2 or 3 6500m peaks. The altitude is one thing, technical difficulty is another. In general we tend to look for greater achievement in climbing higher peaks. But skill does not improve. Many who have I climbed Everest have bare basic skill. I suggest develop technical skills and then climb higher. Some of the world's best climbers, first became adept at climbing big rock faces.
